Chapter 330 Northern Hegemony (Part 4)

Watching this colossal, black creature smash through the camp gate with a single claw, Fugal's face was filled with despair as he muttered, "This isn't real...it's all a dream..."

A group of shield-wielding heavy infantrymen erected a shield wall and slowly advanced towards the monster. Before they could even enter the attack range, the biting frost assaulted them, leaving behind only a pile of ice sculptures that would shatter at the slightest touch, before they could even let out a scream.

A soldier hiding behind a tent used both hands and feet to activate the mechanism of the heavy crossbow. After aiming, he pressed the trigger, and a two-finger-thick iron crossbow bolt, with a dull whistle, first shattered the monster's thick "ice armor" and then weakly stuck between the iron scales.

Enraged, the pitch-black monster roared at the sky, snapped the crossbow bolt on its scales in two, and ran at full speed, becoming an indistinct afterimage, instantly appearing in front of the attacker a hundred meters away.

One iron claw gripped the soldier's head, while the other grabbed his leg. After a sharp cracking sound, blood and bits of flesh rained down on the ground.

The soldiers around were terrified by the bloody scene and ran away in panic.

One hundred meters from the Ulster camp, Casper and his gladiators stared in disbelief at the sight before them.

A pitch-black, armored monster charged into Ulster's camp and, facing three hundred regular soldiers, launched a crushing massacre. The fighting was so fierce that the ground was dark and blood flowed like rivers. The enemy could not put up any resistance except for scattering in all directions and kneeling in prayer.

This kind of fantastical event actually happened in broad daylight.

"You are...that...our leader?" Kasper stared at the dark figure, his eyes wide open.

A barbarian warrior behind him, panting, said, "We all saw it with our own eyes. The chieftain transformed into that form and single-handedly defeated twenty war beasts!"

Hearing the gladiators' chatter, Casper turned to the barbarian warrior: "Just now, in the mythology of the North, these humans who can transform into the strongest war beasts are called...?"

The barbarian warrior raised his head and shouted excitedly, "Demigod!"

The outcome of the Ulster campaign to quell the rebels surprised everyone who had been following it beforehand.

The kingdom's army of a thousand men that set out returned with only fifty-three men. The commander was captured, the supplies were confiscated, and even the survivors were somewhat mentally unstable.

In contrast, the Froststone rebels, apart from the forty-odd barbarian warriors who died in the battle to defend their camp, had a complete and well-organized force with a casualty rate of zero.

The direct result of this battle was that Ulster's reserve forces were severely depleted, the king's prestige was greatly diminished, domestic opposition forces gradually rose, and the entire country was on the verge of civil war.

The Froststone tribe became famous throughout the North. Apart from the twenty-eight "Death Knights," the most talked-about figure was the "demigod" who single-handedly defeated an entire army.

Meanwhile, Todd was lying on a deckchair upstairs, grimacing and twisting his aching shoulders.

Rachel took a bottle of ointment and applied it to his body, saying irritably, "Look at yourself! You've been using your evolved form far beyond what you can handle! Do you know that if the battle continues any longer, your life could be in danger!"

Todd waved his hand dismissively: "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

"So, at that time, there was an impulse deep within your soul that prompted you to suddenly transform into your evolved form?" Rachel pondered before saying, "I guess it's related to Boyle's soul within you. Am I right, Deirdre?"

Deirdre, who had just woken up from her coma, sat at the top of the stairs, looking at the unfamiliar face on the recliner. She recalled the scene in the "Red Circle" where the other person had risked his life to save her.

Why did you save me?

Deirdre's question surprised Todd and Rachel.

The former added, "You're not Boyle, you have no reason to care whether I live or die..."

Todd and Rachel exchanged a glance. Todd scratched his head and said with a wry smile, "You once tried to save me, so consider my actions a return favor."

Rachel looked at the silent Deirdre and repeated the original question: "Is this sudden incident related to Boyle's soul?"

Deirdre hugged her knees and whispered, "I guess so, but I can't feel Boyle's presence anymore..."

Todd struggled to get out of bed: "What do you mean by not being able to sense Boyle's presence?"

Deirdre glanced at him: "Literally, I can no longer feel his presence..."

Rachel winked at Todd, and the two entered the soul space together.

Todd searched the space for a long time but found no trace of Boyle's soul.

Rachel suggested to him, "Perhaps we should bring Deirdre in; she might be able to discover something."

After Deirdre entered the Soul Space, she used her special abilities to find a palm-sized crystal in a corner of the Soul Temple.

“If I’m not mistaken, when his people were in peril, Boyle used all his soul power to help Todd maintain his evolved state for a long time. But eventually, his power was exhausted, and his soul disappeared from this world forever.” Deirdre held the crystal in her hands and said in a trembling voice, “What I hold in my hands is the embers of his remaining soul.”

Todd took the crystal from Deirdre and slowly brushed its surface. The last memories in the embers were projected into blurry images, showing Boyle, the barbarian man's last obsession in life.
