Chapter 350 Laziness and Responsibility

Todd rubbed his temples hard; the unfolding situation was giving him an increasingly painful headache.

There were already three factions fighting each other in Holy City, and with the addition of the Kingdom of Muxi and the Church, and then the Elders' Council, the whole situation has been stirred up like a pot of mixed stew.

"I plan to go to Holy Guard City."

Todd's words startled Rachel.

Looking at his serious expression, the latter lowered her eyelids and asked, "Is it because of someone?"

Upon hearing this, Todd didn't grasp the deeper meaning behind the other person's words and simply asked curiously, "Because of someone?"

Rachel looked up as if nothing had happened: "Holy Guard City is not a good place right now. It's a chaotic place with a dangerous situation... Besides, you've just finished commanding a major battle. Don't you want to rest for a while?"

Seemingly resigned to his fate of constant running around and toiling away, Todd shrugged: "The word 'rest' seems to have become foreign to me. Ironically, a long time ago, my greatest wish was to lie in bed and live out my life in comfort."

Rachel gently poked the other's forehead with her finger: "Those old guys in Twilight City think you're willing to give up power for the future of the kingdom. But I know perfectly well that the reason you did that is simply because—laziness."

Todd smiled wryly and chose to remain silent.

“Selection of officials, revision of laws, formation of the cabinet… all these things you’ve done are to distribute the king’s burdens to others.” Rachel lowered her head, her faint fragrance wafting to the noses of the two men. “I’ve always wondered how there could be such a temperamental king who, for the sake of convenience and peace, actually gave away the power that everyone coveted to others.”

Rachel's words made Todd laugh.

Looking at the woman so close to him, he recalled the moments they had shared and couldn't help but marvel at how wonderful the feeling she gave him was.

Upon standing, Rachel did not possess the typical internet celebrity face and emaciated figure of her previous life. Instead, her appearance and physique were more in line with Western classical aesthetics: a graceful, slender figure, fair and jade-like skin, and delicate, charming features.

But as the saying goes, a beautiful appearance is a dime a dozen, but an interesting soul is one in a million.

What attracted Todd most about this woman was her intelligence and mystery.

Seeing Todd staring intently at her, Rachel leaned down and lay on top of him, her soft breasts shifting shape as she chuckled, "Am I wrong? Your Majesty, who would rather give up power than be lazy?"

Coming to his senses, Todd gently kissed the other's lips: "Even if you're right, I'm still incredibly busy..."

Rachel chuckled and pinched his nose. "Whose fault is this? It's all your own. You want to let go of everything, but you're always swayed by the emotion called responsibility. This makes you choose a difficult path time and time again to save others and fulfill your promises."

Todd's eyes went unfocused as he stared into the distance, muttering, "Responsibility...?"

“I really don’t understand, in another world, are all people like you, or are you just a unique individual?” Rachel slowly lifted Todd’s collar and kissed his neck tenderly. “Perhaps it is this contradiction in you that is the biggest reason that attracts me.”

Todd wrapped his arms around Rachel and flipped her over, pinning her beneath him. Just as he was about to make another move, a soft cry made him turn around.

Having just finished packing her armor and come down from the second floor, Deirdre happened to see this erotic scene on the recliner. Startled, she quickly covered her eyes with her hands and let out a shy cry.

Unable to move while lying beneath Todd, Rachel first glared at him fiercely, then stretched out her fair and delicate arm and beckoned to Deirdre, saying irritably, "What are you yelling about! Come here!"

After glancing at the daylight outside the window and hesitating for a long time, Deirdre finally took a step and slowly walked towards the recliner.

The intimacy in the bedroom has subsided.

Todd glanced at the unconscious Deirdre, took the mead handed to him by Rachel, sat on the fur carpet, took a sip, and said, "I plan to finish up the matters at the camp and then head to Saint Guard City."

Wearing only a light gauze dress, Rachel pinched Todd's soft waist with her fingers, looking dissatisfied: "After you've vented your anger, you didn't even say a kind word!"

Seeing Todd's apologetic face, Rachel sat in his lap and said magnanimously, "Never mind, you're going to Holy Guard City, but you don't even know what the situation is like there."

"During the battle of Ancient Gu City, I captured a church deacon named Chalfield. I learned from him the secret code and location of the slave trade, and using my shape-shaping ability, I was able to use his identity to infiltrate the Holy Guard City and the upper echelons of the church."

Rachel leaned against Todd's chest, sipping her nectar: "That is indeed a solution. If it were just those guys from Holy City and the Church, you might actually be able to get away with it. But the Elders' involvement has made the situation in Holy City even more dangerous. You should know without me reminding you that there are all sorts of mutants in that organization, and you have no idea what their abilities are."

Todd nodded: "So, I need help for this trip to Holy Guard City. I met people from the Alien Association in Ancient Gu City, and they helped me a lot. Perhaps there are similar people in Holy Guard City?"

“Don’t oversimplify things.” Rachel turned and glared at Todd. “Among the kingdoms of the North, the Elder Council has the weakest management, which is why I can openly recruit allies there; but in the kingdoms of the parishes, the Elder Council’s management is very strict, making it extremely difficult to develop resistance fighters of different races in these places.”
