Chapter 353 The Holy Guard's Journey

"Is the judgment of souls real?" Deirdre stared blankly at the stone in her hand and asked, "Is there really a scale of good and evil after a person dies to measure all their actions in life?"

Todd and Rachel exchanged a glance and smiled simultaneously.

Todd said to Deirdre, "The things you saw in the soul space were all made up by me."

"But Sandra is indeed dead."

"That's the effect of the soul link ability. I forcibly invaded and erased the consciousness of the linked person, Sandra, but only if the other party's willpower was weak or under extreme mental attack."

After explaining the cause of Sanjol's death, Todd was momentarily lost in thought and did not say anything more.

Rachel glanced at Todd, walked over to him, gently bent down, and rubbed his temples, saying, "Are you still hung up on that dead person?"

“Sandra deserved it; she should have been deprived of her right to life.” Todd sighed as he looked at the woman in front of him. “But her death reminded me of two things.”

"Which two things?"

Todd slightly raised his head and looked at the roof: "First, he wasn't born evil. In his childhood and adolescence, he possessed the same conscience and sense of justice. I've always wondered, what exactly turned him into a complete and utter killer?"

Rachel tilted her head and thought for a moment before giving her answer: "The devastation of war? The tragic deaths of loved ones? The desire for revenge?"

Upon hearing this, Todd shook his head: "At first, I also attributed his downfall to these reasons. But upon closer reflection, there are some deeper, more hidden things that are the root cause of his descent into the abyss?"

Rachel asked, puzzled, "What's hidden deeper inside?"

Todd frowned deeply, thinking for a long time without coming up with a concrete answer. Finally, he simply said, "I can't give a definite answer right now..."

Rachel gently grasped Todd's hand: "In that case, let's not think about it anymore..."

Todd shook his head: "I can't help but investigate the answer behind it, because it involves the second thing."

Deirdre put down the stone in her hand and sat down next to Todd, her bright eyes looking at him: "What's the second thing?"

"You also saw that so-called 'Soul Trial of the Cow' in the Soul Space yesterday," Todd said, looking somewhat troubled and hesitant. "Do you think that trial was fair?"

Deirdre's eyes widened: "I think it was fair from beginning to end! This morning, people were still alive. The soul judgment in the new divine realm has brought justice to all the injustices in the world. No one has to worry about being wrongly judged after death!"

Rachel listened to Todd's words without saying a word, simply waiting quietly for what the other party would do next.

"Absolute justice does not exist in this world."

Todd's words startled both women in front of him.

“Any judgment of others, or classification of good and evil deeds, carries an extremely strong subjective element, even if the judge is God.” Todd said, recalling the gathering of souls last night, “When I saw Sandra plunge a blade into the slave owner’s chest, for a moment I wanted to judge this act as ‘evil.’ But after learning about the crimes of that Ulster, I judged this act as ‘good.’”

Todd's words elicited completely different expressions from Deirdre and Rachel.

Deirdre was completely bewildered, but Rachel looked thoughtful.

“Sandra certainly deserved to die, but I’m worried that if I were to use my powers to judge whether a human is guilty, I might make mistakes and biases that shouldn’t have happened.”

Rachel remained silent, but a hint of indescribable emotion flickered in her eyes as she looked at Todd; Deirdre, on the other hand, was much more direct, shaking her head as she said, "Why complicate things so much? A bad person is a bad person, and a good person is a good person. No matter what, that Sandor did kill someone!"

Todd chuckled and patted Deirdre on the head, saying with a double meaning, "So, being a human is hard, but being a god is even harder."

Seeing Deirdre's displeased expression, Rachel suddenly spoke up: "The matter with Holy Guard City has been settled."

Todd raised an eyebrow: "Oh? You found the contact?"

“Several members of the Alien Association have sent word that there are indeed traces of the Elder Council’s activities in Holy Guard City.” Rachel glanced at Todd: “Although I wanted to advise you to give up your trip to Holy Guard City, it seems you won’t change your mind.”

Todd didn't say a word, he just nodded slightly.

Rachel pursed her lips and pulled a packet of documents from her pocket: "Here is an introduction to Felicidade, as well as some of his slave trading credentials. You'd better take a look at them carefully before you set off. Also, I've found you a contact in the church who will be responsible for covering for you and assisting your mission."

"The contact person? Who is it?"

“You should be familiar with this person. He is the messenger who issued the sacred texts of the Knights of Twilight, and also the chief deacon under Cardinal Abel—Tristan.”

Three days later, at dusk, Todd, riding a griffin, landed in an abandoned village about ten kilometers northwest of St. Defence.

Todd had originally intended to bring Rachel along, but she refused, citing unfinished business. Todd, however, believed Rachel's fear of heights was the only reason.
