Chapter 419 Helper

When Carol awoke from his coma, he found himself lying on a cold metal operating table.

His entire body was chained up, and a strange iron ring was firmly fixed around his neck.

Carol tried to break free of the chains binding her, but she couldn't muster any strength at all.

Beside him lay the werewolf Aldnan, who had suffered the same fate. He turned his neck, not struggling much, but simply looking at everything around him.

This is an underground laboratory, about 100 square meters in size. It looks spacious, but most of the space is occupied by all sorts of equipment, jars, and bookshelves.

Aldenan tried hard to identify the objects in the room, but to his disappointment, apart from a few daily necessities, he couldn't even name most of them.

Realizing he was powerless to break free, Carol calmed down and looked at the contents of the experimental vials beside him. He swallowed hard in fear: "Aldenan, I feel something's wrong here. We have to get out of here as soon as possible!"

Aldenan followed the other person's gaze and saw a human brain, along with spinal cord and other organs, floating inside a huge glass jar.

Looking around, Aldenan was horrified to discover that most of the experimental vials contained human specimens or mutated organs and tissues.

"Let's put aside these damned chains on us for now!" Aldenan twisted his body and said in a deep voice, "I suspect our bodies have been injected with a drug that makes us powerless... Also, there's definitely something wrong with the iron rings around our necks..."

"The analysis is correct."

Wearing a lab coat, Wayne Dunlop entered the room and looked at the orcs and werewolves on the operating table: "To prevent you from causing any trouble, I have placed three layers of restraint on you: tempered iron chains, a powerful sedative, and... the iron ring around your necks is one of my most satisfying creations—magic rings."

"Magic magnetism is an extremely rare radioactive metal. It has limited harm to the human body, but it is the most effective restraint for bacteria and parasites in the bodies of alien species..."

Seeing the bewildered expressions on the faces of the two people on the operating table, Wayne shook his head helplessly: "I don't need to explain any of this to you... Time is precious, I have other things to do later, let's hurry up and resolve this as soon as possible."

As Wayne took out a bone saw, drill, scalpel, and other instruments from the cabinet, Carol's eyes widened, and she screamed in fright, "What are you doing?!"

Wayne took out medical alcohol and began disinfecting the equipment one by one, saying matter-of-factly, "What for? To unravel the mystery of the tyrant, of course."

Knowing that there was no point in reasoning with this madman, Aldenan raised his head as high as he could and shouted, "Wait! Wait! We are of great use to you. Isn't it a waste to kill us like this?!"

Wayne, saw in hand, slowly approached the operating table, smiling as he said, "Your purpose is to sacrifice yourselves for the great cause of science. Death should be an honor for you... Alright, who shall we begin? The orcs..."

As the sharp serrations drew ever closer, Carole was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan: "I don't want to die! If I have to die, I'd rather be a sailor and die at sea!"

Wayne aimed the saw at Carroll's skull and sawed down hard.

With a crisp snap, the saw broke in two.

Looking at the tool that was now only half intact in his hand, and then at the skull beneath Carroll's injured scalp that was as hard as steel, Wayne said thoughtfully, "Does the power enhancement from the Tyrant's modifications not only affect the muscle tissue but also the bones?"

Having abandoned the idea of dissecting the orc, Wayne picked up the drill again and walked toward Aldnan.

"Oh, damn it! Don't come any closer!" Aldenan looked at the sharp drill in Wayne's hand and tried his best to pull his head back.

Wayne walked to Aldenan's head, aimed at the latter's forehead, and forcefully drilled down.

After drilling only half a circle, Wayne found that the drill bit in his hand could not be pushed forward even an inch.

The regenerative ability, modified by the tyrant, caused the wounds inflicted by the drill to heal rapidly and generate immense power, expelling all foreign objects from the body.

Frustrated, Wayne slammed his tools to the ground, buried his head in his hands, and slumped into a chair, looking utterly dejected.

Carroll and Aldenan, having narrowly escaped disaster, breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing Wayne still deep in thought, Aldnan's eyes darted around a few times before he suddenly spoke up: "Mr. Dunlop, shall we make a deal?!"

Wayne looked up at the werewolf strapped to the operating table and laughed: "This is the first time I've heard of an experimental subject making a trade request to its master."

“Mr. Dunlop, if I’m not mistaken, the experiment you’re conducting now is something the kingdom forbids, isn’t it?!” Aldenan looked at the human specimens around him and forced a smile. “Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gone to such lengths for tonight’s event.”

Wayne made no attempt to hide anything: "Most people within the kingdom underestimate the significance of species evolution. They would rather spend their funds and energy on futile gunpowder weapons and cavalry development than provide me with a decent research lab. Even the experimental concept for the alien warships—the cabinet wouldn't have allocated resources unless His Majesty had personally ordered it..."

Aldenan nodded and said ingratiatingly, “That’s right, there’s a saying—truth is always in the hands of a few. Your current mission is to be ahead of others and explore an unknown but great path.”
