An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Wayne took out a small piece of nerve tissue, placed it under a microscope, and observed and recorded it.
Aldenan tentatively asked, "Mr. Dunlop, you just mentioned getting caught in the rain and having a fever..."
“The human body is like an extremely complex machine. When viruses or bacteria enter from the outside, the body’s immune system will automatically launch a defensive attack.” Wayne put on gloves and carefully took out a small flask of black solution from the cold air incubator: “The drug that I injected into your bodies that day was actually a powerful virus that can change the human gene arrangement and internal tissues.”
Aldenan, who seemed to be listening to gibberish, glanced at Carol and found that the other was just as bewildered as he was.
Wayne looked at the black solution in the bottle and slowly said, "Before you, I had conducted countless human experiments, and almost every one of them ended with the destruction of the test subject's central nervous system. It wasn't until the two of you appeared that I saw a glimmer of hope."
Carefully separating and sampling the black solution, Wayne placed it into a petri dish, let out a long sigh, and said with a sigh, "I've been wondering what caused that superpower inoculation experiment to produce two successful samples at the same time? Food? Water? Or perhaps family genetics?"
"I never expected that the final answer would be just a minor fever." Wayne couldn't help but laugh. "Sometimes, the truth is just so frustrating."
Aldnan scratched the back of his head vigorously: "Mr. Dunlop, I don't understand many of the terms you're using..."
Wayne turned and glared at the werewolf: "You certainly can't understand knowledge from the realm of the gods."
Ignoring Aldenan's protests, Wayne continued, "Not only humans, but also rats, rabbits, dogs, and cows—I've done similar experiments. Without exception, their nervous systems were completely destroyed. But you two have been able to survive until now after being injected with the virus. Why?"
"The answer is the immune system."
"I learned from this book that the human immune system, which includes many cells, organs and active substances, will attack the virus as soon as it invades. But this attack triggers the defense mechanism of the tyrant virus, which causes the latter to attack the central nervous system before it can recombine human genes, thus stopping the operation of the immune system."
Wayne peered through the microscope, saying as he looked, "But you two are an exception... Remember? The night before the vaccination, you both developed fevers from being caught in the rain. In fact, the fevers were your immune systems detecting the infection and waging a war against the germs."
"After this battle is over, the immune system is in a relatively inefficient state, with a decrease in white blood cells and a drop in immunoglobulins. And it is at this time that you drag your sick bodies to the vaccination station and receive the Tyrant virus injection. Little do you know that after the Tyrant virus enters the human body, the human immune system is no longer able to launch another large-scale war, which naturally greatly reduces the virus's triggering mechanism and attack power, allowing the virus to successfully combine with the human body."
After saying this, Wayne glanced at the two people behind him: "Still don't understand? Do you feel like your stupidity is lowering the IQ of the room?"
Aldenan gave a constipated look and awkwardly laughed, "Mr. Dunlop, your wisdom is truly admirable..."
Wayne snorted: "Enough with the nonsense! Go out and find me two more test subjects!"
Carol, who had remained silent until now, suddenly spoke up: "You've found the key to the problem. Does that mean there's already a way to turn us back into humans?"
Looking at the tall orc, Wayne's expression grew increasingly cold: "I need test subjects to study whether this theory is correct. Of course, I have another way. If you're willing to give me your body, perhaps I can give you the answer today..."
Seeing Wayne's unfriendly expression, Aldenan rushed out and pulled Carroll back, saying, "Mr. Dunlop, don't worry, we'll take care of the experimental subjects!"
Leaving the room and closing the door, Aldenan forcefully pushed the reluctant Carol out of the corridor, leading him to a secluded corner, and growled at him, "You'll get us killed!"
“I just want to become human again.” Carol sat cross-legged on the ground, staring at Aldenan’s face. “But I have a feeling that you don’t really want to become human again.”
The latter opened his eyes wide and said in a panic, "What nonsense are you talking about? Of course I want to turn back into a human!"
Carol stared at Aldenan for a moment, then closed her eyes and asked, "What should we do now? Arrest two more innocent people?"
Aldenan plopped down next to Carol, propped his chin on his wolf paw, and said with a troubled expression, "Ever since that attack on the Golden Lark Troupe, all the roads around Twilight City have been heavily guarded. It will probably be very difficult to catch anyone again."
Aldenan thought for a moment and said, "It's definitely impossible to make a move in Muxi City. As for the north of the city, it's all mountains and forests, sparsely populated, so it'll probably be difficult to capture anyone there. The east of the city is even more impossible, there are cavalry patrolling there every day... So that leaves only the south of the city..."
"South of the city?"
"After traversing the Moon Creek Plain, we can reach the border between Twilight City and Lonely Rock City. There are many villages nestled among the mountains there, making it a suitable location for a capture operation."
