Chapter 442 Genes of Non-Human Species

As the three entered the room, Wayne Dunlop took books and notes from the bookshelf and asked, "How much do you know about the human race?"

Aldenan and Carroll exchanged a glance, and both shook their heads.

Barbara said angrily, "I don't want to hear your academic theories and long-winded speeches! I just want you to do two things: First, turn me back into a human; second, find a way to get me out of Twilight City!"

Wayne frowned and asked, "May I ask why you want to leave Twilight City?"

Barbara bit her lip and said, "I don't believe Randall is dead... His body has never been found, and I always feel that his disappearance must be related to that dragon that people talk about!"

Wayne said helplessly, "Without evidence, without inference, is this what you call a woman's intuition?"

Barbara roared angrily, "What I think is none of your business! Anyway, I'm going back to Lone Rock to find Randall's whereabouts. You'll definitely find a way to get me out of the city!"

Wayne, who was quite troubled, looked at the furious woman in front of him and changed the subject: "Has Randall ever mentioned a place called 'Heaven' to you?"

Barbara was stunned: "Heaven?!"

"It seems the person you care about still holds back some things from you." Wayne's sharp tongue was on full display: "Or perhaps, he thinks you're too big for your mouth to keep secrets?"

Enraged and humiliated, Barbara spread her arms wide, flames dancing between her fingers, and shouted, "Your lies and slander are of no use to me!"

Seeing the situation turning sour, Alden quickly jumped in to smooth things over: "Miss Barbara, Mr. Dunlop didn't lie to you, Heaven truly exists! He gained much knowledge of the gods in Heaven, and even learned a divine language called 'Chinese'!"

Ignoring Barbara's near-rage, Wayne sat down, poured himself a glass of water, and calmly said, "Not just knowledge, Heaven possesses everything you can't even imagine... memory crystals that record epics, super machines that solve complex problems, works of art that transcend time, and unparalleled delicacies..."

Seeing Barbara's still skeptical expression, Wayne said, "Do you know Queen Mary's gallery? So many amazing paintings, she claims they all came from His Majesty. Don't you find that strange? Besides being from heaven, can you think of any other explanation?"

Upon hearing this, Barbara gradually calmed down, and the expression on her face changed from anger to confusion.

After thinking for a long time, she asked Wayne, "According to you, Randall went to that 'heaven'?!"

“That’s right.” Wayne curled his lip. “But that unambitious kid always wastes his precious time in heaven watching those boring ‘TV shows’.”

Barbara swayed weakly and said, "Fine, even if Randall went to that so-called heaven, what does that prove? Tell me, what exactly are you trying to say?"

"His Majesty led us to a heavenly kingdom where many secret rooms are hidden." Wayne stroked the cover of the notebook and said with a sigh, "Some rooms show the shape of the entire universe, some rooms contain incredibly precious specimens... But the one that amazes me the most is a room filled with enormous machines, which I call the 'Room of Origins'."

"Between origins?"

“That’s a room that reveals the secrets of species and the origin of life, with many machines you can’t even imagine…” Wayne’s expression was like that of a man in love.

Seeing that the three of them still looked completely bewildered, Wayne sighed and said in an extremely disdainful tone, "Let's start with the simplest concept: genes."

"Genes are tiny fragments of genetic information stored in the human body. They are the basic substances that allow humans to pass on their traits to the next generation when reproducing." Wayne looked at the three people in front of him: "Do you understand now?"

The three shook their heads.

"In other words, genes are the tools humans use to pass on individual differences to their offspring, understand?"

The three shook their heads again.

Wayne scratched his scalp hard, pointed at Aldenan and shouted, "You found a woman, had a child, and discovered that this child, whether it's the color of the pupils or congenital diseases, is exactly the same as you. That's genetics!"

Aldenan said thoughtfully, "So, that thing called genes is actually my precious reproductive fluid?"

Wayne closed his eyes weakly, waved his hand, and said, "Fine, just take it that way."

Leaving aside this fundamental conceptual issue, Wayne continued, "The gods in heaven spent thirteen years conducting genetic testing on humanity, a large-scale undertaking they called the 'Human Genome Project' (HGP). Through this experiment, they located and mapped the entire genome sequence, determining the location of all genes."

"After accomplishing this feat, the gods began to analyze the function of each gene segment, an activity they called the 'post-HGP'," Wayne said with emotion. "As the experiment progressed, the gods gradually discovered that the post-HGP was slowly becoming an impossible task."

"The genes that truly have visible characteristics and can be directly analyzed account for only 3% of the entire gene sequence. The remaining 97% of the genome is like a huge, bottomless black hole, and it is impossible to interpret their specific functions and hidden meanings in the human body."

Looking at his two companions who had completely lost the ability to think, Aldenan gently rubbed his head and said, "Mr. Dunlop, what you're saying is too profound. Could you explain it in simpler terms?"
