An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Todd had a very long dream.
In his dream, he was in a different world, but he didn't exist there.
In that universe, everything and all laws proceeded in an orderly manner according to their existing course, without his involvement.
Kingdoms, like fish crossing a river, rose and fell in a chaotic yet numerous manner, some rising today and others falling tomorrow.
All events are like nodes on a circular track, occurring in sequence and endlessly.
He could only stand aside as an observer, watching the tides rise and fall, the flowers bloom and wither, no matter how much he shouted or struggled, he was powerless to make any changes or fight for anything.
Finally, a blinding light shone through the darkness, taking him away from that endless nightmare.
Todd slowly woke up and found that his vision was blurry, and he could only make out faint lights and shapes.
The enormous dragon was covered in wounds of all sizes. One of its wings was almost completely broken off, with only a few tendons connecting it. Its scales had been mostly destroyed by the explosion, revealing the bright red flesh beneath.
Todd tried to speak, but found that his vocal cords were also severely damaged, and he could only make some indistinct noises.
“It’s a miracle you survived.” Meredith’s voice suddenly appeared in Todd’s mind: “When I found you, you were like a pile of sausages hanging in a market.”
Todd opened his eyes wide and looked ahead, but could not make out anything except a blurry figure.
Meredith's voice rang out again: "You stay here and don't even think about moving around."
Todd asked in his mind, "Where am I?"
“Land of Shadows, it took me a lot of effort to rescue you from the battlefield.”
Upon hearing Meredith's answer, Todd was momentarily taken aback.
Did this woman bring me back from the battlefield to the land of shadows?
With a dragon-shaped body weighing tens of tons, how did she manage to do that?
Putting that aside for the moment, Todd asked, "How are my injuries? How long will it take to fully heal?"
"It's hard to say. Although my master Scáthach healed you, your injuries are still very serious. As for when you will recover, I'm afraid I can't give you a definite time."
Todd paused for a moment, then asked again, "How long have I been unconscious?"
Five months.
"What did you say?!" Hearing this answer, Todd became anxious and struggled to get up, but the excruciating pain all over his body forced him to lie down again.
Meredith said helplessly, "I just finished giving you instructions, and you've already forgotten what I said. Your injuries haven't fully healed yet, so don't try to move around too much."
Realizing he was powerless to move, Todd sighed softly and slowly calmed down.
"I remember the explosion during the battle with Cú Chulainn, but what happened afterward?"
Meredith recalled, "The flashes and tremors from that explosion were clearly felt even from the Shadow Kingdom. By the time I arrived at the battlefield, it had become a giant crater, about two kilometers wide and nearly a hundred meters deep."
Hearing this, Todd was a little puzzled. The power of spore parasites was indeed great, but it couldn't be this great, could it?
Perhaps, within Cú Chulainn's tyrannical body, there was an organ that digested corpses, storing flammable gases produced during digestion? (Mainly carbon dioxide, methane, and sulfur-based gases)
Meredith continued, "When I arrived, the Valkyrie who was quite hostile towards me was already frantically digging through the explosion site with a group of people. After some coercion and persuasion, I finally convinced them to let me take your body."
"For the first month after returning to the Land of Shadows, you were completely unrecognizable. Fortunately, my master Scáthach intervened in time, saving your life."
Todd let out a long sigh: "Then... Cú Chulainn, he..."
"You're asking him? Although my master instructed me to bring back Cú Chulainn's body... but that pit, without exaggeration, was littered with bits of flesh and limbs, making it impossible to distinguish which remains belonged to that guy."
Meredith said with a hint of helplessness, "I've always wondered why my master would care about such a stubborn and conservative fellow?"
Recalling what Cú Chulainn had said to him before his transformation, Todd said with emotion, "Perhaps it was precisely because of Cú Chulainn's stubbornness and conservatism that Scáthach felt his soul had special value?"
Meredith approached Todd, patted the latter's dragon head, and said with a double meaning, "It seems there's some truth to the saying: the person who understands you best is often not your family, but your enemy..."
As Meredith walked further and further away, Todd couldn't help but shout in his mind, "Hey, where are you going?"
Meredith said irritably, "Of course I'm going to inform your lovers that you're awake! Otherwise, those people will keep coming over to cause trouble every now and then, do you think I want to see them?!"
Todd shrank back and shut his mouth.

Twilight in the western city, Twilight Cathedral.
Alfonso, clad in black armor and carrying a greatsword, looked at Hudgens, who was limping toward him, and was overwhelmed with emotion.
Huggins walked up to Alfonso, pounded his breastplate, and laughed loudly, saying, "How long has it been since we last met?! Two years? Three years?"
Alfonso whispered, "I'm in the north..."
Huggins quickly stopped the other person from speaking: "Yes, I know, we shouldn't talk about His Majesty's affairs here... By the way..."
