An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Beneath the land of shadows lies the deep sea of the North.
Suspended in the dark seawater, Todd used his night vision and eagle-eye abilities to look into the depths of the ocean. There, he could see faint lights and the silhouettes of creatures swimming. He shook his head and said, "It seems my guess was right."
A muffled, thunderous voice rang in his ear: "When did you find out?"
"Do you remember? Last time I came to you to ask about the Seed of Souls, you took me to your soul space and showed me the city of those merfolk."
Its massive, mountain-like body moved slowly in the sea, its enormous eye swaying. Leviathan confirmed, "That's right, those fish-men who fought against humans tens of thousands of years ago and were wiped out—I secretly preserved their souls in my consciousness space. But how did you find this place?"
Todd lowered his dragon head, his underwater breathing ability allowing him to draw oxygen from the water without any hindrance. As he recalled, he said, "Based on clues... I've been to Scáthach's soul space, not just you. Later, I discovered something strange: compared to the two of you, your soul power is far greater than Scáthach's."
"At that time, I was thinking, as the first creations of Crystal Constellation, why is there such a big difference in your soul power?"
Leviathan paused for a moment, then continued, “Each pioneer created by Crystal has a completely different mission and ability. For example, Scáthach was given the mission of observation and inheritance when she was created. She is mainly responsible for recording all civilizations and archiving and verifying the culture and characteristics of each civilization.”
“And I,” Leviathan’s enormous body obscured the faint light in the ocean, “my mission is to nurture and propagate… In this sacred land of the sea, which is like a mother, I carefully nurture every life formed from a soul, watching them slowly develop from the simplest organisms into complex higher beings. Some of them went ashore and established civilizations on land, while others stayed by my side to continue living.”
Todd continued his analysis: "Then let me guess, the reason your soul abilities are superior to Scáthach's is because you needed to use your soul abilities when you were nurturing life in the ocean. Conversely, could the initial creation of life have been the formation of the soul?"
For the first time, a hint of appreciation appeared in Leviathan's voice: "You guessed right."
"The so-called soul is actually a structural form based on dark matter. It is the blueprint, the blueprint, the design draft for creating all organic objects."
"Before creating life, the pioneers would transmit the design plans and capability requirements of the species to their kind who possess the ability to reproduce—like me. Based on these requirements, I am beginning to construct the souls of living beings in the soul space using appropriate dark matter and dark energy. Next, I will use an ability to transform these souls into physical entities..."
Todd nodded and said, "Soul materialization."
"Yes, it seems Scáthach has already taught you this ability... to build up the blueprint in the soul space bit by bit using elements and particles that are free in the real world. This process is soul materialization."
"After the soul is materialized, the pioneers will observe the state and performance of the materialized things, allowing the most basic and lowest-level soul blueprint to continuously upgrade into a higher ideology under the influence of nature and society, and eventually form into a higher life form."
Todd said helplessly, "However, what you didn't expect was that the genocide war completely interrupted this upgrade of the soul and the evolution of the species. Any civilization, after evolving to a certain level, will inevitably face destruction."
Leviathan said in a deep voice, "This is also the biggest disagreement between the Forerunners and our creators, Crystal. The Forerunners believe that when civilization progresses to a certain stage, self-discipline and freedom will eventually lead to the extinction of the race. It is necessary to influence and interfere with it through external forces in order to ensure the continuation of civilization. However, Crystal believes that whether it is a soul or a civilization, higher life forms must never disturb the development trajectory of lower life forms. Otherwise, it will violate the original intention of the life experiment and make the experimental results lose their authenticity."
Hearing this, Todd shuddered.
His past life—that blue planet—has been embroiled in the Fermi Paradox to this day, unable to find any trace of extraterrestrial civilization no matter how hard it tries. Is it for a similar reason?
Putting aside those complicated thoughts, Todd said to Leviathan, "Let's set aside for now who's right and who's wrong between the Crystal Constellation and the Forerunners. Do you remember the question I asked you back in the Soul Space?"
Which question?
"Back then, after seeing the souls of those merfolk in your soul space, I asked you, 'Why do you keep so many souls in your own space?' You only said half a sentence to me: 'Because they are all…'"
Todd flapped his dragon wings in the seawater and said with great emotion, "After returning, I've been thinking about what the second half of your sentence would be?"
Leviathan said calmly, "The fact that you found this place means you've already guessed what I want to do."
Todd changed his posture and began to dive into the deep sea. Colorful jellyfish slowly drifted past him, making the entire deep sea look like paradise. Huge underwater structures were built one after another on the continental shelf in an orderly manner. The beautiful and graceful fish-men, seeing the black dragon getting closer and closer to the underwater city, were so frightened that they began to flee in all directions and desperately hide.
