Chapter 55 The Trial of Heresy (Part 5)

A test of chastity?

The cultivator sneered, "Go ahead!"

Todd is taking a risky gamble. If anything goes wrong, not only Karin, but he himself will also lose his life.

But for some reason, he felt calm, without the slightest fear or unease.

Scenes from the past gradually surfaced in his mind.

In the laboratory, silently acting as an assistant, the girl always looked up at his back.

On the deserted island, with unconditional honesty, the girl revealed her deepest secret to herself.

While eating Western food in Watchtower Town, the girl secretly cast a grateful glance at him.

Todd believed that there was an unseen trust between him and Karin, an unspoken entrustment...

Father Paul acted quickly and soon found a lady who had served as a lady-in-waiting in the court.

As Karin followed the woman backstage for the 'chastity test,' Todd glanced at the chemical reagents on the table, and to his side, a bottle of medicine was rolled into his sleeve.

Ten minutes later, the lady came out and announced the test results to everyone.

"This girl is a virgin."

Upon hearing this, Queen Mary, standing on the second floor, covered her mouth in shock. She understood Todd less and less. At first, she had assumed they were lovers, hence their mutual protection. But the truth was, the monk was truly risking his life to protect the devout girl.

In her heart, there was a touch of emotion, a touch of envy, and... a touch of jealousy...

As everyone gasped, Todd breathed a sigh of relief.

"How is this possible?!" Paul was so shocked by the result that he lost his mind, shouting and flailing his arms and legs, "How could she be a virgin?!"

Todd's eyes gradually turned cold; his patience had reached its limit.

He said to Paul, "Father, now that the tests you requested have been completed, could you please cooperate with me to undergo another test?"

Paul watched as the other man raised a glass of "Eye of God," and he recoiled in terror, muttering, "I don't believe your alchemy! It's all a lie! A lie!"

Todd addressed the audience, "Is there anyone who can help out?"

Without him needing to say it outright, several priests and knights who were usually at odds with Paul quickly stepped onto the judgment seat and firmly restrained the struggling priest.

The monk, holding the "Eye of God," approached closer and closer, then suddenly pressed Paul's palm into the solution.

The clear water instantly turned dark brown.

Everyone was stunned by what they saw.

"True evil has always lurked within the light!"

Seeing the priests and knights around him retreat in fear, Paul clutched his hair in anguish. He knew all too well that his life was completely over.

And all of this is thanks to that bastard monk!

With bloodshot eyes and no other way out, the man grabbed a silver candlestick beside him and swung it violently at Todd.

The latter, relying on his "speed" ability, dodged the attack and then used his "weakening" ability with his right hand to grab Paul's arm, causing him to instantly lose all his strength and collapse limply in front of the judgment table.

To an outsider, the scene looked as if the attacker had lost his footing and fallen to the ground, and the monks were helping him up.

Todd leaned close to Paul's ear and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Father, I have some good news for you. You've successfully pissed me off!"

Using his body as cover, Todd poured the entire bottle of pale yellow powder he had just taken from the table onto Paul.

Then, he stood up, ignoring the person lying motionless on the ground, picked up a book of prayers from the table, and loudly recited: "God is merciful, the rising sun shines on us from the heavens; protect us from our enemies, and defeat the evil schemes of the devil; we beseech God to command the devil to retreat far away; by the power of the Lord God, drive Satan and all those who roam the world; and drive all the evil spirits that harm people's souls into hell!"

A clergy member familiar with the scriptures explained to others, "This is a prayer for exorcism."

"Exorcism? Could it be that Father Paul has a demon inside him?"

Todd sprinkled the holy water from the pulpit onto the priest, and wisps of white smoke rose slowly as the priest let out a shrill scream.

"Look, the holy water is working! There really is a demon inside the interrogator!"

After sprinkling the holy water, Todd calmly walked to the top of the judgment seat and came to the side of Bishop Fabian.

The old man's body trembled violently as he asked in a trembling voice, "Todd, what do you want to do?!"

Ignoring him, Todd, gazing at the massive cross above, pushed open the sanctuary window of the cathedral's main hall. Sunlight streamed in from outside, illuminating Paul, who lay sprawled on the floor, unable to move. Suddenly, without warning, flames erupted from his body. The excruciating pain from the burning caused the gloomy man to rise, transforming him into a "human torch," and he ran frantically back and forth.

Amidst the screams and cries of the audience, and the prayers and pleas of the judges, Todd stepped down from the judge's bench and approached the "Man of Fire."

Paul, his life force fading away, his skin charred, his hair withered, and his eyes sunken, knelt before Todd, uttering his final curse to his enemy: "You...will...go...to hell..."

Todd crouched down, inhaling the stench of burning flesh and blood in the air, and looked at the man burning ever brighter half a meter away. He whispered, "If that day ever comes, I will personally set fire to the entire Heaven from Hell..."

The heresy trial is over.

To everyone's surprise, the one who was judged became a saint, worshipped and carried out of the cathedral; the judge, on the other hand, became a heretic and was burned alive on the pulpit.

After the trial, Todd and Bishop Fabian met privately and had a negotiation that resembled "bargaining".

The following conditions were ultimately met:

Bishop Fabian promised: 1. Todd would be granted authorization to establish the "Muxi Harbor Church"; 2. Sufficient supplies and weapons for 500 soldiers would be allocated to him; 3. The Silver Ring Cathedral would agree to Todd establishing his own order of knights, and Fabian would personally write a letter to report this matter to the Archbishop of the Western Diocese and the Cardinal Order; 4. The "Sisters of the Fathers" would be allowed to be established at the Muxi Harbor Church, with Todd temporarily in charge of its management; 5. Karin's crimes of "impersonating a monk" and "attempted arson" would not be investigated; 6. Father Paul would be stripped of his holiness and his name would be recorded in the register of heretics.

What Todd needed to do was to send a batch of crystal relics to the church every twenty days, no less than the first batch.
