Chapter 557 What I Saw and Heard in the City (Part 2)

Unlike three years ago, the current Twilight City has less of an artistic atmosphere and more religious elements.

In the square, a giant dragon statue, symbolizing a patron deity, has replaced the original large fountain. Reliefs depicting myths and legends of the gods have replaced the original marble walls.

If you listen closely, you can still hear the laughter and chatter from the crowd, but the hymns and hymns floating in the sky bring an unprecedented solemnity and reverence to the entire city.

The guards parted the crowded people from both sides, clearing a path for the Holy King and his daughter.

Holding Todd's arm tightly, Aurora suddenly pointed ahead and asked him, "Why are there so few people over there?"

Todd looked in the direction she was pointing.

At the other end of the square, sentries responsible for security had cordoned off an area with wooden barricades. Compared to the throngs of people here, there were indeed very few people in that area.

Using his eagle eye, Todd quickly noticed something was wrong.

The plaza was intentionally divided into two areas: one area was filled with humans, and the other was filled with alien creatures from the Crusader.

If tourists from outside the area are unaware of the restrictions and attempt to enter another area, the guards will step forward and politely ask them to leave.

Seeing this, Todd frowned and gestured for his guards to move closer.

The group arrived at the boundary of the area and happened to meet a group of citizens of Muxi City who were gathered together looking at the Holy Army at the end of the square.

One of the men, who looked like a businessman, whispered to his companion, "You've heard about what happened to Beatrice, haven't you?"

The other person nodded and said, "I heard he committed suicide in prison out of fear of punishment."

"What I do know is that the big-mouthed bard didn't commit suicide at all, but was secretly executed."

"real?!"

"It's absolutely true. His body was burned to a crisp. Who in the world would commit suicide and end up like that?"

"He deserved it. Someone had told him long ago. Compared to the Crusader's alien races, humans are now considered inferior beings. Going to provoke those elves is suicide!"

Upon hearing this, Todd frowned and looked at the guard beside him.

Most of these guards were human, but almost none of them showed any aversion or confusion towards these remarks, as if what these people were saying was a truth that had long been accepted by everyone.

Todd shook his head, grabbed Aurora's little hand, and led everyone away from the square.

Walking into the central commercial street next to the Holy Dragon Plaza, Todd and Aurora wanted to find a suitable restaurant for lunch.

To his surprise, the restaurants on the commercial street also treated Crusader and human customers differently.

Some restaurants only cater to members of the Crusader race, while others divide their space into different areas to consciously separate alien creatures from humans.

After some searching, Todd found a restaurant with separate dining areas.

Escorted by the guards, the father and daughter chose a table at the back of the human seating area and sat down to see what was going on inside the store.

With leather rugs on the floor and swords and shields hanging on the walls, this restaurant had a distinctly Northern style of decor. The owner of the shop may have been an Ulster or a Connaught.

The genocide triggered by Cú Chulainn forced many people to leave their homes and come to the south to make a living, and this shop owner appears to be one of them.

The first floor of the restaurant is mostly occupied by human dining areas, except for a small portion that is staff and kitchen areas, while the second floor is only accessible to Crusader members.

Considering this zoning and his previous observations of the square, Todd felt a mix of emotions, including a sense of helplessness, upon reflection.

Three years ago, the Crusaders, under his leadership, entered the city and quelled the rebellion.

On that bloody night, and on the subsequent "Execution Day," tens of thousands of humans perished at the hands of the Crusaders.

After the turmoil subsided, it took three whole days just to clear the corpses from the city and clean up the mess.

After that, an unhealable rift remained between humanity and the Crusaders.

From a human perspective, the Crusaders are servants of the gods, powerful beings with strong will and strength; it is not surprising that feelings of fear and admiration arise from this.

The Crusaders, having witnessed the chaotic behavior of humanity, despised the actions of this race, but were also afraid that having undergone the conversion ritual, they would become entangled with them in any way.

Just then, a human male and a female elf walked in through the restaurant's entrance, drawing gasps of surprise from the crowd.

For Twilight City, where the Jacqueline and Beatrice incident had just occurred, the sight of humans and elves traveling together was an exceptionally jarring one.

The female elf, dressed in a red gown and with her long hair styled in an updo, whispered to the person beside her, "Randall, I don't know if this is a good idea?" under the gaze of everyone on the first floor.

Randall shrugged: "Barbara, you were the one who said you wanted to come here for 'Mochi Cream Soup'..."

“I know, but there used to be those two guys with us. Now it’s just you and me, and it all seems a little strange.”

The waitress approached the two men and asked hesitantly, "Are you two here for a meal?"

"Is there a quieter spot?" Randall asked.

The waitress mustered her courage and asked, "Would you like to sit separately?"
