Abel closed his eyes and said helplessly, "Wives betray their husbands, students betray their teachers, sons report their fathers. The entire capital has become a city of weeping and betrayal under the church's terrifying control."
Todd hesitated for a moment, then said to Abel, "Why did you come to find me?"
"I hope Your Majesty can end this chaos."
"End the chaos? How?"
Abel took a deep breath and said in a deep voice, "On behalf of the royal family of the capital of Tyre and those church members who yearn for peace, I implore you to rectify this tragedy caused by religion."
After saying this, Abel reached into his robes and took out a document with a gold seal from his pocket, presenting it to Todd with both hands: "With the help of members of the royal family and other bishops, I managed to escape that city so that I could bring this to you."
Evie took the document from Abel, checked it repeatedly, and after confirming that there was nothing amiss, handed it to Todd.
The latter opened it and saw the following passage written on the document.
"In the name of Christ the Lord, with our witnesses, we elect, under God's rule, the one we deem worthy. The Church of God and the Protestant Church are united, and the Church legally elects Todd Fischer as Supreme Bishop. This decision has been made by an absolute majority of votes, and all those who participated have clearly expressed their opinions without reservation."
At the end of the document was a long list of names.
They included not only bishops of various ranks in the church, but also kings and nobles of the Papal States and the secular kingdoms.
Todd carefully put the document away, then handed it to Evie, saying, "Take this to Emerson; he knows what to do."
Watching Ivy leave the hall, Todd turned his gaze to Abel: "There's something I don't understand. How can you think things will be better than they are now, rather than worse, after you've nominated me as Pope?"
Abel turned his head to look at the square outside the hall: "On my first day in Muxi City, I visited the pilgrimage monument."
"There, I saw the light, and I saw the future."
