An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Randall hurriedly left the tent, Cumberland's words still echoing in his mind.
"Humanity is the most important and also the most chaotic branch of the race, and it needs a suitable leader to guide them..."
The Holy King wants him to lead a branch of the human race?
What is the deeper meaning behind Cumberland's words?
Randall pondered repeatedly, but couldn't come up with any clues.
Judging from his past experiences, Randall knew that the Holy King had always valued him highly, but he never expected that the other party would grant him any power.
Back among his teammates, the werewolf Aldnan was the first to notice his worry: "Did the Grand Master say something to you?"
Kellogg rolled his eyes and asked, "Is it related to this mission?"
Randall took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, and slowly said, "Lord Cumberland only requires us to complete His Majesty's task immediately."
Although the crowd had some doubts about this explanation, no one was willing to press further at this point.
Seeing the other team members preparing their belongings, Randall looked at Barbara, who had a concerned expression, and gently asked, "Do you remember what His Majesty said to us before we left?"
Which sentence?
"His Majesty said that this rescue mission to Tero City is to create an opportunity for our marriage to be recognized by the people. If it is successfully completed, then thanks to the merits of this operation, there will be no one to stand in the way of the union between humanity and the Crusade."
"Ah, I remember those words. What's wrong?"
Randall sighed: "I'm afraid His Majesty's intentions extend beyond our marriage; there are other things he hasn't mentioned..."
"What is it?"
Just as Randall was about to speak, Alfonso's voice came from afar, forcing him to turn around.
When do you plan to leave?
Randall looked at Alfonso: "Has the road ahead been cleared?"
Alfonso nodded: "After the Far Ember Hills were captured, the enemy's rear began to crumble. The entire eastern part of the forest was filled with fleeing enemies, and even the garrison around Tero City began to retreat."
Randall's eyes lit up: "Does this mean the passage into the city has been opened?"
"Most of the enemy's watchtowers on the western front are now unguarded. After this defeat, I suspect that the Church will soon withdraw all its forces back to the city of Tero and make a final stand against the city's defenses."
Randall breathed a sigh of relief: "That's great. The rest of the team will set off now and head straight to Tero City."
Alfonso shook his head: "Don't be in such a hurry. Let me ask you, how long would it take you to walk from here to Tero City?"
"Hmm... If we hurry, it should take about four days."
"Four days later, when you arrive in Taro City, the enemy will have already learned of the defeat and completed the city's defenses. At that time, it will be extremely difficult for you to infiltrate the city."
"So... what do you mean?"
"There is a way for you to get to Tero City within half a day, but you will need the help of others."
"Help from others?"
"Once your teammates are ready, come with me."
A puzzled Randall instructed his squad members to quickly prepare their gear, and then followed Alfonso toward the high ground of the military camp.
Upon reaching the Valkyrie camp of the expeditionary force, Alfonso disarmed himself and explained his purpose to the two Valkyries at the camp gate.
Soon, Ashley, the temporary commander of the Valkyrie Expeditionary Force—a beautiful blonde woman with blue eyes and a tall figure—walked up to the group. Looking at Randall, she addressed Alfonso, asking, "Did the Supreme Dragon God entrust this human with the mission?"
Alfonso nodded and said, "They need to get to Tero City as soon as possible, so they need your help."
Ashley raised her eyebrows and said, "We're not boatmen who help people cross rivers."
Alfonso turned to Randall and said, "Bring out His Majesty's letter of appointment."
Randall took out the letter of appointment from his pocket and showed it to the Valkyrie.
Ashley shrugged helplessly after reading the appointment letter: "I don't understand. If the Dragon God needs loyal and reliable servants to serve him, why didn't he order us to serve him, but instead found this human?"
After saying this, Ashley raised her right arm, signaling to her sisters to let them pass and allow them into the camp.
Randall followed Ashley into the dwelling, which was inhabited only by Valkyries.
This Valkyrie camp, built on high ground, clearly exhibits the rugged style of North Island architecture.
Tall and sturdy wooden arrow towers, rows of staggered semi-circular longhouses, and a bustling training ground.
Watching the Valkyrie standing before the target, easily dodging six arrows fired by her companions, Aldenan leaned closer to Carol and whispered, "I bet you can't beat her."
The orc glanced at the werewolf and said irritably, "I don't know if I can beat her, but I can beat you up right now."
Kellogg, the lizardman, stared at Ashley's retreating figure and suddenly asked, "Hiss... I heard that the Valkyrie doesn't give knights or Crusaders a friendly look?"
Seeing Ashley turn to look at him, the minotaur Bulville quickly said, "My companions are always very direct, please forgive them..."
“That’s right, we do not like the kingdom’s knights, nor do we like you Crusaders.”
Ashley's unwavering statement surprised everyone.
