An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
A fireball flew through the streets and landed among the parasitic zombies, accompanied by a loud bang and bursting into intense, blinding flames.
Watching the parasitic corpses burn to charcoal in the flames, Randall breathed a sigh of relief, stepped back to Barbara's side, and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
Having just used her powers, Barbara was pale and limp as she sat by the roadside, gently shaking her head.
The werewolf Aldnan jumped down from the rooftop, shouting in a panic, "The whole city has gone mad! There are fires and corpses everywhere!"
Looking at the smoke billowing in the distance and hearing the faint cries around him, Carol said worriedly, "Those 'things' have spread. Those black worms inside their bodies can turn any living person into a corpse that only knows how to kill."
The minotaur's giant axe has long been abandoned; his current weapon is a three-meter-long wooden pillar.
Bulville, panting heavily, dropped the wooden post and said, "These damned corpses are practically immune to any attack. Cutting off their heads only makes them pause for a moment. Fire, only fire, can kill them completely."
Looking at Karin who was walking slowly towards him, Randall asked, "How are the children?"
Glancing at the charred corpses on the street, Karin said in a low voice, "The long journey has exhausted them all, and some of the children refuse to walk any further because they are terrified by what they have seen."
Randall frowned. "How far are we from the safe house?"
Karin remarked, "At this pace, it will take at least three hours to reach the safe house."
Aldenan complained irritably, "I thought we'd be safe once we got out of the tunnel."
Carol looked around: "The mutation is spreading much faster than we thought. These parasitic zombies we've encountered are just a few lone ones. It won't be long before they grow stronger and gather together to attack the remaining living people."
Randall's expression was grave as he pondered the current situation and future strategies, unaware that the woman beside him was slowly disappearing from his sight.
Barbara stood up and walked to the corner of the wall as if nothing had happened. When no one was paying attention, she slowly sat down against the wall, and suddenly a great pain appeared on her face.
She clutched her lower abdomen with both hands, closed her eyes, and trembled uncontrollably.
"If you continue to use your powers like this, both your life and your child's will be in danger."
Barbara looked up, and Karin's face seemed particularly glaring in her confused gaze.
"Just hold on a little longer, just a little longer..."
Karin interrupted Barbara: "Persist? You know it's just a self-deceiving lie. Given your current physical condition, there's absolutely no way you can make it to the safe house."
Barbara didn't say anything.
Karin crouched down beside her and asked Barbara, "You still don't plan to tell him about the child?"
Barbara wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand and replied with a smile, "What good would it do to say it? It would only make things worse."
Karin stared into Barbara's eyes for a long time, then sighed, slowly stood up, and stopped trying to persuade her.
Meanwhile, Randall was talking to Kellogg, who was in charge of scouts.
"Hiss, with the Grand Cathedral as the center, the zombie horde has expanded to a radius of fifteen kilometers. The church headquarters, the royal palace, the city hall... almost the entire center of Tero City has become a hunting ground for zombies."
Kellogg wagged its tail and said in a serious tone, "This isn't even the worst of it."
Randall's eye twitched: "Not...the worst-case scenario?"
"The mutated corpses began to gradually gather into several huge hordes of zombies, charging in different directions. It looked as if... someone was controlling them. One of the hordes was rapidly approaching us and would catch up with us soon."
Randall's eyes widened, and his fists clenched involuntarily.
Aldenan, standing beside him, rolled his eyes and said, "I must warn you, once the horde of zombies catches up with us, none of us will escape."
Carol grabbed the werewolf by the back of the neck and hissed, "What exactly are you trying to imply by saying all this?!"
Aldenan shouted anxiously, "If we bring those troublesome brats along, we'll all die here!"
Enraged, Carol shoved Aldenan to the ground: "Shut up!"
Aldenan struggled to his feet: "The Dragon God originally only ordered us to rescue the scholar and do our best to retrieve his manuscripts."
"The mission failed the moment we discovered Yevni's death! It failed!" Aldenan, his fur standing on end and eyes bloodshot, roared at Randall, his fur standing on end, "It was this guy, our brave and fearless captain, who insisted on going to rescue those troublesome burdens!"
"I told you! Shut up!"
Carroll punched Aldnan in the cheek, knocking him to the ground.
Lying on his back on the ground, Aldenan laughed hysterically: "Hahahaha! To satisfy this guy's desire for attention! To fulfill his heroism! Now! We! All! Will be buried with him in this damned hell!"
Carroll rushed toward Aldnan, trying to stop the werewolf from howling.
Just then, Randall suddenly reached out and grabbed him.
Randall shook his head at Carroll, his face filled with sorrow, and said, "It is indeed my fault that things have developed to this point, and we have walked step by step into danger."
