Chapter 667 Eleanor's Invitation (Part 2)

Eleanor said, "To reduce human life force to avoid Sutherland's backlash, while maintaining basic survival needs, Theodore began to find the best balance among these three. Under the guise of relief organizations, he used places such as merchants, farms, circuses, and workshops to collect the experimental materials, drugs, funds, equipment, and of course, the most important material was human beings."

"He first extracted the flesh and blood of the mutants to feed on ordinary people, turning them into mutants as well. Then, using Sutherland's legacy, he transformed these mutants into inheritors. Finally, he began experimenting under different stress conditions to see if Sutherland's curse would erupt when the life force of these inheritors was reduced."

"For example, regarding hunger, if the heir goes without food or water for several days while maintaining life, causing their body to weaken to a certain extent, will the curse of Sutherland be delayed?"

"For example, consciousness. When the inheritor takes hallucinogenic drugs and loses basic mobility, will the Sutherland Curse within them be suppressed?"

"For example, with diseases, would it prevent the outbreak of the Curse of Sutherland by keeping experimental subjects with people suffering from different diseases, or by directly injecting pathogens into their bodies to make them sick?"

Upon hearing this, Todd recalled his meeting with Theodore, whose words about everything being for peace and survival made him tremble with anger.

Looking at Todd's expression, Eleanor smiled and said, "Theodore himself is a very good actor, or rather, everyone who comes from the Elder Council is very good at acting... Of course, your little lover is no exception..."

Todd's face was icy: "Go on."

Eleanor laughed and said, "After that, Theodore's experiments went down a dead end. No matter what method he used to reduce the life force of the inheritors, the experimental subjects would eventually turn into bloodthirsty monsters; it was only a matter of time."

"At that time, Theodore began to reflect on his experiments and finally concluded that as long as the inheritor still possessed vitality, he would become a monster. Reducing vitality could only delay this mutation, while stopping vitality could completely prevent it."

Todd felt a chill run down his spine: "Terminate life force?"

Eleanor said, "Theodore has modified the experimental objective. The successor should transform the physical body into a corpse-like state, but retain the soul consciousness. In this way, life force is terminated, and Sutherland's curse will never be triggered."

Todd asked instinctively, "Turning people into thinking corpses? What about reproduction?"

"Theodore believes that the successor can completely give up reproduction. Since the body no longer has metabolic reactions, it only needs to use its superpowers to replenish the nutrients required for daily activities, and raise spare bodies to replace organs. In theory, it can live indefinitely."

Todd shook his head and said, "That's just wishful thinking."

Eleanor said, "Theodore started this plan back then, turning the Inheritors into necromancy to prolong the survival of the alien races. He called the final product of this plan the Necromancer Inheritors. Don't you find it ironic? To keep the aliens alive, you first make them try to die."

"In order to obtain more funding, materials and technical support, Theodore copied his relevant research notes and sent them to Eliade, seeking his support."

"I don't know what those two old geezers were plotting, but in the end, Iliad actually approved of Theodore's experiment and said he would support the plan of the Necromancer's successor."

Eleanor continued, "In order to truly complete the masterpiece of the Necromancer's Successor, Theodore began to try different methods. For example, dismembering the alien's body, then piecing it back together and stitching it up, and then using the Sutherland legacy and other substances to create a culture medium for cultivation."

"One of the successful cases was a test subject named Marcus. His head came from the Inquisition, and his body came from multiple successors. After growing in the culture medium for many days, this test subject named Marcus survived and was able to distinguish simple instructions from others."

"Marcus's success greatly boosted Theodore's confidence, and he began to increase the scale of his experiments. But his blindness and arrogance ultimately led to disaster."

Eleanor looked at Todd and said, "Do you know Watchtower? It's nestled among the northern mountains and is the first line of defense for the Church of Heaven against the northern barbarians."

Todd nodded, and roughly guessed the trouble the other person was referring to.

"Theodore ordered his men to inject a solution mixed with Sutherland's legacy, hive parasites, and other substances into the water supply of Watchtower, causing the entire town to become undead and creating the Watchtower massacre."

"You should know the two people in charge of executing this plan. One is named Myris, and the other is Thoracodon."

Hearing those two names from Eleanor, Todd was overwhelmed with mixed feelings.

"As it turns out, the Watchtower experiment was a complete failure. Apart from extremely rare exceptions, the necromancy inheritors who were able to become conscious individuals could hardly retain their original consciousness. They would only become walking corpses that craved flesh and blood, and were simply not suitable for large-scale conversion." Eleanor sighed, "Moreover, because of this incident, many kingdoms, including the Church of the Father and the Southern Empire, developed even stronger hostility towards the Elders' Council."

"When the Elder Council learned of the news from Watchtower, Eliard and I discussed it and decided to send Theodore a document ordering him to immediately cease all experiments and return to the Elder Council."
