An associate professor in life engineering travels to a medieval European fantasy world. Using modern biochemistry, he discovers that viruses, bacteria, and parasites extinct in human history are a...
Accompanied by the clear cry of a griffin, several figures rapidly ascended from Waiheke Island, soaring high into the sky in the blink of an eye.
The three Valkyries urged the griffins beneath them onward, drew their bows and arrows, and flew south, quickly reaching the skies above the scene of the incident.
On the vast sea, a dozen or so Valkyries riding griffins, along with hundreds of harpies from the Crusader army, were already circling in the blue sky.
The leader of the Valkyrie Guard, Ivy, hovered high in the sky on her griffin, gazing at the distant sea without uttering a word.
The three Valkyries who had just arrived were unaware of what had happened. They flew to Ivy's side and asked anxiously, "Where are the enemies?"
Evie glanced at the newcomer, nodded, and said, "Ashley, put away your weapon."
The Valkyrie, known as Ashley, has dazzling blonde hair that shines brightly in the sunlight, but her personality is more like a blazing fire in winter.
"Don't give me orders!" Ashley looked at Evie in mid-air and asked, "I'll ask you one more time, where are the enemies?"
Evie pulled on the griffin's reins, turning it so that its face was turned toward the southern sea.
Ashley looked south and saw several small dots appearing where the sea and sky met in the distance.
Looking into the distance, Ashley asked in confusion, "Is that a warship? No, wait..."
Ivy said softly, "That's a cargo ship from the Southern Empire."
"Cargo ships?" Ashley turned to Evie. "They're just a few cargo ships. Why issue a warning?"
"Take another look."
Ashley directed the griffins to fly towards the cargo ship, until they reached the target area.
Five cargo ships flying the Imperial flag were covered in damage, with one ship even having only half of its mainmast remaining.
The deck of the ship was filled with people, men, women, and children, all dressed as commoners.
Civilians on a ship spotted the Valkyrie in the sky, and soon many people crowded to the bow, stretching their hands out towards the sky and shouting something.
One of the Valkyries standing beside Ashley spoke up: "They are begging for our help."
Ashley put away her bow and arrows and asked in confusion, "These people are all from the South. Why would they leave their country and come here?"
No one could answer her question.
Ashley then turned her gaze to the rear of the southern fleet, where a fleet of Lone Rock warships flying the dragon flag followed at a distance, neither approaching nor moving away.
"What are those people in Lone Rock doing?!" Ashley said angrily. "They should have stopped these Southerners, not escorted them!"
Riding her griffin back to Evie's side, Ashley immediately demanded, "What's going on with these Southerners?! Why are they here? And how did they get past the Lone Rock outpost?!"
Ivy said, "This civilian fleet from the Southern Empire sailed west into the deep sea, then north, bypassing the outposts of Lone Rock City, and came directly to Twilight City seeking refuge."
Ashley asked in a low voice, "Are they insane?!"
Evie: "They're not crazy, they're just desperately seeking help."
Ashley: "What did you say?"
Suddenly, chaos erupted in the distant civilian fleet. The lead cargo ship lost control of its rudder and began to make sharp turns on the sea.
Ashley looked closely and saw that on the deck of the cargo ship, many civilians were shouting something loudly, and some panicked people even chose to jump into the sea.
Just as she was still full of questions, a black figure suddenly burst open the upper cabin door and rushed into the crowd on the deck.
A human being enveloped in black parasites, with wriggling black worms covering his eyes, mouth, ears, and body.
"Necromancer!"
A gasp rippled through the crowd as the Valkyries drew their weapons, as if facing a formidable enemy.
The living corpse, covered in black parasites, lunged at the nearest woman with a child.
In the blink of an eye, a large number of parasites burrowed into the screaming victim's body, causing the surrounding crowd to scream.
Looking at the tragedy in the distance, Ivy said in a low voice, "According to the report from the Lone Rock City patrol fleet, this civilian fleet from the Southern Empire had eleven ships when it was first discovered, but the undead have tormented the fleet to its current state."
Ashley bit her lip: "Why would the Southern Empire have such a fleet of undead ships?"
Evie: "I suspect that a necromantic plague has broken out in the Southern Empire."
During the conversation, another incident occurred on the cargo ship filled with civilians.
Countless black parasites swarmed onto the deck from the lower cargo hold.
Like a surging black wave, it instantly submerged the entire deck, swallowing up all the living people in a moment, turning the whole ship into a parasite's nest.
To make matters worse, the out-of-control ship, while making a sharp turn, crashed straight into another cargo ship diagonally behind it.
Unable to avoid each other, the two ships collided with a deafening roar.
Meanwhile, the black parasites that had crawled all over the deck and masts took the opportunity to swarm onto another cargo ship and launch a horrific attack on the people on board.
Hearing the screams and cries coming from afar, many Valkyries and Harpies turned pale and shivered from the bone.
Ashley gripped her bow and arrows tightly and said to Evie, "We can't let these ships get close to Twilight City!"
Evie looked at Ashley: "Your suggestion?"
Ashley: "I'll take my men back to Duskwood immediately, load up with spore bombs, and sink these ships before they get close to the port."
