Chapter 702 Hope for the Living

The Northern Research Institute of Muxi City.

In the enormous laboratory, Wayne stood behind the isolation glass, watching the neatly dressed researchers carefully lift a half-meter-long sealed lead box onto the operating table.

Wayne asked his assistant, "When was it discovered?"

"This morning."

"Where is the location?"

"It's in the bushes right next to the main gate."

Wayne frowned and asked again, "Just leave it there?"

Assistant: "Yes, it's just left there."

Wayne: "Who put it there? So many sentries, and not a single one saw the person who delivered this box?!"

The assistant shrank back: "I asked around, and no one saw an intruder. That box... it's like it appeared out of thin air..."

Perhaps realizing that what she was saying was getting more and more outrageous, the assistant unconsciously lowered her voice.

Wayne glanced at his assistant, said nothing, and focused all his attention on the lead box on the surgical examination table.

It was a strangely shaped box with intricate patterns on the outside, but made of heavy lead.

The researcher, whose entire body was protected by the keel, deformed the keel limbs into the shape of a blade and aimed them at the interface of the lead box.

"My lord, I am ready and can begin at any time."

Wayne nodded. "Open the box."

Carefully inserting the keel limbs into the gaps in the lead box, the researcher slowly pried open the box, and a cold mist flowed out from inside.

Wayne leaned closer to the glass wall and asked, "What's inside?"

The researcher's eyes widened, and he hesitated before saying, "There's something inside... it seems to have been frozen..."

Wayne pressed, "What is it?"

Researcher: "I don't know... It looks... a bit like an organ of some kind of organism."

Wayne was taken aback: "An organ?"

The researcher craned his neck, examined it closely, and said, "There seems to be some writing engraved on the back of the box lid."

Wayne: "What language? Read it aloud!"

After struggling to decipher it for a while, the researcher said dejectedly, "It's not a common script; it's a script I've never seen before..."

Wayne pounded on the wall, angrily saying, "You idiot! Find a piece of paper! Find a pen! Copy that passage down and show it to me!"

The researcher hurriedly copied down the text and then stuck the paper onto the glass.

Wayne struggled to decipher the terrible handwriting, muttering to himself, "It's ancient Taro... towards... towards death."

"Living towards death... living towards death..."

Wayne lowered his head and repeated the sentence several times. In an instant, as if he suddenly thought of something, he looked up and shouted, "Notify the Xenomorph Biochemical Bank and have them prepare the extraction and separation devices immediately!"

Everyone in the lab was stunned by Wayne's sudden shout.

Seeing this, Wayne roared, "You bunch of idiots! Are you all deaf?!"

Watching the others hurriedly leave, Wayne pressed his face against the glass wall once more and said to the researcher inside, word by word, "Protect that thing in the box. Don't let it suffer even the slightest damage, or I swear to the Dragon God, I will personally stuff you into a vat of concentrated sulfuric acid and soak you for three days and three nights!"

The researcher glanced back at the box, swallowed hard, and asked, "Sir, what exactly is that?"

Wayne said excitedly, "The light that dispels death, the hope of all the living..."

At the same time, the sister hotel.

"Pamela, Cosette, are you two sure you don't want to come south with me?"

Sitting on a chair on the balcony, enjoying afternoon tea while basking in the sunlight, Rachel smiled as she looked at the two women in front of her.

Cosette hesitated for a moment, about to speak, when she noticed that Pamela had tugged at the hem of her clothes twice.

Pamela said to Rachel with difficulty, "Sister Rachel, Cosette and I don't have any powerful abilities, so we're afraid we can't be of much help."

Seeing Pamela's evasive gaze, Rachel said in a low voice, "I heard that you found a lover in Twilight City and are already engaged?"

Pamela opened her mouth to defend herself, but realized that in Rachel's eyes, all lies were futile, and she eventually shut her mouth obediently.

Without accusation or coercion, Rachel remained silent for a moment before saying, "I understand how you both feel. This city has been with you for too long, and it's understandable that you're reluctant to leave. Since you want to stay, then stay."

Pamela, feeling like she'd been granted a pardon, thanked them profusely and pulled Cosette down the stairs.

Hearing the noise, Karin groped her way out of the room and slowly moved toward Rachel's location.

Karin: "The two of them don't want to go?"

Rachel took a sip of tea and said softly, "Mmm."

Karin: "Without Todd, Pamela would be nothing more than a toy at a noble ball, and Cosette would be nothing more than a savage hiding in a cave..."

Rachel put down her teacup: "Everyone has their own comfort zone. It's easy to get into a circle, but it's hard to get out. I'm not surprised by their decision."

Karin sat down opposite Rachel while groping around: "Going south to find Todd, almost everyone thought it was a mission with no chance of survival."

Rachel looked at Karin: "And what about you? Are you willing to go?"

Karin nodded vigorously and said, "I must go. As long as I can help Todd, even just a little bit, I will never back down... but..."
