Chapter 723 Light and Shadow (Part 1)

Emerging from the volcanic trail, Rachel led Sabrina to the entrance of a secret passage at the foot of the Elders' Mountain.

Pressing the mechanism, watching the stone steps slowly descend before him, Rachel stood motionless before the dark entrance.

Sabrina walked up to Rachel, noticed her hesitation, and asked, "Where is this place?"

Rachel took a deep breath: "My birthplace."

After saying that, Rachel took a step and walked down the stone steps.

Stepping on the dilapidated floor tiles, Rachel and Sabrina made their way through the tunnel until they finally arrived at a closed stone door.

Finding a small recessed hole in the wall next to her, Rachel inserted the key Eliad had given her and turned it forcefully.

A rumbling sound came from the mechanism behind the door.

A moment later, the stone door slowly opened, and a pungent smell of preservative liquid mixed with dust rushed out.

Sabrina unconsciously closed her eyes and sneezed.

When she opened her eyes, she was so shocked by what she saw that she forgot to speak.

A huge laboratory filled with crystal culture tanks. The room contains hundreds of huge, upright culture tanks, most of which have dried up and cracked, with only a small number still relatively intact.

Rachel walked to a culture tank, wiped the dust off the surface with her palm, and a deformed and ugly face appeared before her.

It was a corpse with a distorted face and a deformed body. Perhaps "corpse" is not an accurate description; it was more like a lump of flesh.

Sabrina walked to another sink and, mimicking Rachel, wiped away the dust. The appearance of the corpse inside shocked her.

"Is this the Mother Goddess...Eleanor?"

Rachel glanced at it, then walked deeper into the laboratory.

On the lab bench in the innermost room, a heavy lead box sat quietly.

The lead box was coated with a silver shell, making it look shiny and out of place with its surroundings.

Rachel walked over, opened the lead box, and a cold aura slowly emanated from it.

Several transparent resurrection insects lay there quietly.

Meanwhile, Sabrina was still looking around at the crystal culture tanks.

More and more corpses were unearthed by her; some were deformed and ugly, while others appeared normal; some were young, while others were old and frail. But without exception, they all bore the face of Eleanor.

Sabrina: "What exactly is going on here?"

Rachel carefully picked up a resurrection worm and whispered, "You don't need to know the specific details, just do as I say."

Half an hour later, Rachel and a person completely shrouded in black robes walked out of Iliad's laboratory and returned to the Elders' Square.

The two followed the long steps, passing through numerous massive buildings, and finally reached a secluded path at a high point.

As they climbed the steps along the path, the sound of water grew louder and louder until a huge waterfall gradually appeared before them.

The two followed a narrow path behind the waterfall to a hidden stone gate.

Standing before the stone gate, the person, shrouded in a black robe, reached his right hand into the hole beneath the gate.

Accompanied by a sharp noise, the sound of gears turning came from inside the stone door, and the door slowly opened.

Upon entering the gate, one finds a long, dilapidated passageway with huge reliefs on the walls on both sides, depicting the history of the alien species over the past thousand years. Most of the reliefs have been damaged by weathering, with only a small portion still faintly visible.

Rachel and the man in black robes walked through the passageway, pushed open the stone door at the end, and were greeted by a huge, empty hall.

Thousands of stone seats, giant stone statues tens of meters high, and a luxurious and magnificent grand altar—all these things testify to the former glory of the Presbyterian Church, only to be ravaged by time, leaving only rubble and broken stones.

The man in black whispered something to Rachel, then went to the last row of stone seats and slowly sat down, leaving Rachel alone to walk into the depths of the hall.

Rachel found a back door at the back of the hall and was about to open it when a voice suddenly appeared in the hall.

"My little wooden puppet, I've been waiting for you for a long time."

Eleanor stood on the high platform of the great hall, with Garcia, the second in line and vice-commander of the Legion of Strife, standing beside her.

Eleanor, dressed in her finest attire, with her stunning beauty and graceful figure, looked like a queen, high above everyone else.

As Eleanor slowly descended the platform and walked towards Rachel, she said, "Behind that door lies my treasure trove, a place you cannot enter."

Rachel slowly left the gate, keeping a wary eye on Eleanor as she retreated toward the entrance of the hall.

Eleanor smiled and extended her hand, palm up, and gently beckoned.

Rachel's body seemed to be pulled up by a huge suction force, flying straight towards Eleanor.

Eleanor pulled Rachel in front of her, smiling as she looked at the struggling opponent. With a push, the suction force turned into a thrust, and Rachel's body fell into the audience like a cannonball, kicking up a huge cloud of dust.

Eleanor dusted herself off and watched Rachel struggle to her feet in the ruins. She laughed as she said, "My little puppet, your vitality is as tenacious as an insect. No matter how you play with it, it won't break... But a puppet is still a puppet. As long as the strings are in my hands, you can never escape my grasp."
