Chapter 740 The Other Side (Part 8)

A gunshot in the darkness was like a spark falling into a barrel full of gasoline.

One second the citizens and tourists were watching and taking pictures, the next second they screamed and ran backward.

Major Cole looked at the old man lying dead on the ground and gasped.

Just as he was about to say something, a huge ice spike came flying through the air, grazing his cheek and piercing the skull of the soldier next to him.

Seeing the brains and blood splattered on his clothes, Major Cole finally came to his senses and saw the angry and grief-stricken outsiders launching an attack on the army while shouting something.

"Take cover! Take cover!" Major Cole yelled as he backed up to a car. "Fire! I'll repeat myself! Fire!"

A barrage of gunfire erupted instantly, and bullets rained down on the crowd surrounding the white hole.

Amidst the flames, blood splattered everywhere, screams echoed, and people continued to fall to the ground.

A mutant rushed to the front, his hands touching the ground. The asphalt road, churned up like waves during the violent earthquake, formed a rocky barrier in front of the crowd.

Major Cole could hardly believe his eyes as he watched this scene unfold.

A dozen or so fireballs, each the size of a washbasin, streaked through the air from behind the rock barrier and crashed into the army's defenses.

In the violent explosion, cars were thrown into the air and then crashed heavily to the ground.

Major Cole, who was knocked down by the blast wave, crashed heavily into a telephone pole.

Enduring immense physical pain, Major Cole struggled to open his eyes.

A mimicry-like alien species, blending seamlessly into its surroundings, bypassed the battlefield and revealed itself behind the unsuspecting soldiers.

The cold blade sliced across the vulnerable throat, and amidst a fountain of blood, the assassin vanished once more, searching for his next target.

Major Cole, who witnessed all of this, was filled with fear. He took a flashbang from his waist, pulled out the safety, and threw it forward with all his might.

Amidst the intense flashes and deafening explosions, Major Cole scrambled to his feet and ran frantically backward, shouting as he ran, "Retreat! Retreat!"

After speeding all the way to the Hummer, Major Cole, still shaken, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He looked out the car window and saw that the white hole was still slowly expanding, but the streets were already in chaos, with citizens and tourists fleeing and calling for help everywhere. He could even hear the cries of the injured.

However, the outsiders around the white hole had long since disappeared, and even the corpses of their fallen companions had been quietly taken away by them.

Enraged, Major Cole pounded on the car body, yelling, "Damn it! Fuck!"

A figure suddenly rushed into the car, startling Major Cole.

Clemens, covered in dust and dirt, lay in the car, panting heavily.

Somewhat surprised, Major Cole reached for the pistol beside him, but after a moment's thought, he withdrew his hand.

"You were there just now, and you saw what those people did?"

Hearing the major's question, Clemens's face still showed shock: "Yes, I saw it. They can cause earthquakes, fireballs, and hail. What are those people... the Avengers?"

Major Cole tested the vehicle's communication system, but the display screen remained black. He said in a deep voice, "Things have developed beyond my expectations."

Clemens asked, "So what should we do now?"

Major Cole looked at the white hole: "We'll wait here. It won't be long before headquarters discovers the correct location of the singularity eruption."

Eight hours later.

Las Vegas welcomed another morning, the rising sun shining on the earth, but the cold air offered little warmth.

The area surrounding the white hole has been cordoned off by the military.

Hundreds of armed soldiers guarded every street and every entrance to the restricted area.

Facing the eight corpses covered with white sheets on the ground, General Hamilton, his face flushed with rage, roared at Major Cole, who was sitting by the roadside, "You bastard! Because of your recklessness and incompetence, we've lost eight men!"

Major Cole calmly smoked a cigarette, as if all of this had nothing to do with him.

General Hamilton's anger intensified: "And what's more! You didn't capture a single one of those outsiders who emerged during the Singularity's eruption! You didn't even manage to salvage a single corpse!"

Major Cole glanced at General Hamilton: "Sir, as I've already said, we're on a routine patrol with very limited weaponry, and due to the electromagnetic storm, our communication and tactical systems are completely down. So, we're fighting thousands of enemies emerging from the singularity in complete isolation..."

Major Cole paused, then added, "And you saw the video too... those outsiders can use... magic."

General Hamilton: "Magic bullshit! Routine patrol bullshit! On the night the singularity erupted, you deployed four squads, and they were exactly one kilometer from the singularity! And you're telling me this was a routine patrol?! You already knew the location of the singularity! This is concealing the truth! This is overstepping your authority!"

Major Cole smiled and tossed his cigarette to the ground. "Sir, I don't know how to answer your suspicions. You personally ordered me to stay away from the Singularity Contact mission; and you even signed the application for the routine patrol four days ago."
