Chapter 94 Specialized Parasite Breeders

To be honest, the results of this experiment were a nightmare that Todd never wanted to recall.

The experiment showed that the mice that received the "honeycomb" transplant could control the actions of the other three mice by emitting vibrations from their mothers. However, in the end, all four mice died.

Mice fed with black nematodes died from neurotoxins. The black nematodes release a toxin within the mice that damages the host's central nervous system, turning them into mindless zombies.

The white mouse carrying the "hive" mother died a gruesome death; it was ruptured by a massive number of black nematodes that had sprouted and multiplied. Tens of thousands of nematodes, along with blood and internal organs, blasted the entire glass box into a chaotic mess. Every time Todd recalled that scene, he felt a tightness in his chest and a desire to vomit.

After examination and dissection, Todd also obtained some information. Black nematodes have relatively strict environmental requirements. When the temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius, the humidity is below 40%, or when exposed to sunlight or when there is a large difference in pH levels, they will lose their vitality and eventually die.

The observation of the 'honeycomb' parasite has been temporarily suspended.

In summary, the following points can be made:

1. The 'honeycomb' parasites reproduce by 'budding', consisting of a mother (similar to a jellyfish) and daughters (black nematodes).

Second, the mother organism contains a vocal sac-like organ that can emit a rattling sound similar to a rattlesnake to control the host infected by the cytoplasm.

Third, a host infected by the mother will have its body eroded by the budding offspring, eventually bursting and dying.

Fourth, the host infected with the offspring will have its central nervous system destroyed by the neurotoxins secreted by the offspring, eventually turning into a mindless walking corpse.

Fifth, it is speculated that as time goes on, when the offspring grow into the mother, these zombies will likely suffer the same fate as the mother host, eventually being eroded by the massively multiplied offspring and exploding to death.

VI. The offspring have poor environmental adaptability and are extremely sensitive to light, temperature, acidity, alkali and humidity.

Todd finished writing the last entry in his observation report, sighing as he looked at the 'hive' parasite in the culture flask. This thing was practically a biological nuclear weapon. Luckily, this kind of parasite didn't exist in his previous world, otherwise, the scenes from 'Resident Evil' might actually have happened.

Looking at the 'dragon bone' larval culture tank and the 'honeycomb' culture bottle in the laboratory, Todd blinked and smiled wryly. Could he be considered a professional parasite breeder?

With the parasite experiment temporarily concluded, Todd left the lab to visit Alfonso, who had regained consciousness and was undergoing strength rehabilitation on the hills.

According to his squires, the first thing the knight asked for upon waking up was something no one expected—to take a hot bath.

Alfonso had been soaking in the bathtub for almost a whole day, and he was so weak that he had to rely on others to help him even get out of the tub and change his clothes.

But at least he seemed to be in good spirits, and a long-lost smile reappeared on his face.

“I feel like a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders.” Alfonso said to Todd with a smile, rubbing his legs. “The power of ‘Dragonbone’ was like a shackle from hell, imprisoning my soul for years. Now, I am finally free.”

Upon hearing this, his entourage appeared somewhat dejected.

Adelina accompanied Alfonso back to the cabin, while Walton and Leslie accompanied Todd on a walk outdoors.

The short, stout man glanced back at the door and slowly said, "The boss has said more than once that from the day he lost his family and became a mutant, he was no longer a knight."

Leslie found an open space and plopped down: "Unlike us, our boss was forced to become a mutant. He tried countless ways to get rid of that 'dragon bone'."

Todd leaned closer and asked curiously, "Could you tell me more about it?"

Leslie glanced at Todd and nodded, seemingly having made up his mind: "It seems there's a strange illness in the boss's wife's family; exhaustion and fatigue lead to physical deterioration and death. A traveler gave the boss a copper tube, saying that what was inside could save his wife. Unexpectedly, the contents of the tube were the 'Relics of Sutherland,' and the boss's wife became the Heir, even killing the family's children. When the boss returned home, he witnessed this. He was no match for the Heir and was about to be killed when the traveler reappeared, not only blocking the monster's attack but also giving him the 'Dragon Bones.' With the 'Dragon Bones' power, the boss killed the Heir, and when he tried to find the traveler again, the traveler had vanished."

Todd recalled Huggins's words and then asked, "Who is that traveler?"

Leslie shrugged. "I don't know. The boss has been looking for that guy for years."

Walton then interjected, "For the boss, every time he sees the 'Dragonbone,' he thinks of his deceased wife and children. He probably didn't want to become a mutant at all. Perhaps he felt that the abilities of mutants tarnished the honor of knights, which is why he gave up his position and became a hunter in the Inquisition for Mutants..."
