Chapter Thirty-Seven: Bloody Footprints

Upon hearing Yu Bin's shout, the crowd immediately stopped. They first looked cautiously at Yu Bin, and then heard Wang Lan shout, "There's something on the ground!"

So they turned to look at Wang Lan again, only to find her squatting on the ground, her brows furrowed as she stared at the ground, as if she were pondering something.

Seeing that everyone had gathered around, Wang Lan glanced at them indifferently, then pointed to the ground and said, "There's a bloody footprint on the ground. Something's not right."

"What's wrong with a bloody footprint?" one of the hunters said without even looking at it. "The market was the initial outbreak point of the infectious virus, so it's normal for some bitten people to run out with blood on their hands."

Wang Lan glanced at the man and said, "I've thought of what you're saying, but the direction of these footprints is clearly not outwards, but... towards the market! See for yourself if you don't believe me."

The hunters were taken aback and looked over curiously. Sure enough, there was a bloody footprint on the ground, heading towards the market.

Yu Bin also walked over at this time, and when he saw the bloody footprints, he was obviously stunned for a moment.

In fact, he hadn't noticed the situation on the ground. The reason he had everyone stop earlier was because they were approaching the market, and he wanted the hunters to be fully prepared so that they wouldn't be caught off guard and unable to cope if danger suddenly came.

Yu Bin also began to look at Wang Lan with new respect.

You see, the land was overgrown with weeds and there was nothing else in sight. He had just walked this path, yet he hadn't noticed the bloody footprints at all. Instead, Wang Lan was the first to spot them. Putting everything else aside, his keen observation skills alone far surpassed those of the hunters present.

"Everyone, spread out," Yu Bin said to the crowd. "Check the surrounding area for any other discoveries!"

Hunters are inherently stronger than ordinary people, not only in terms of physical fitness but also in their execution. Upon hearing Yu Bin's words, they immediately scattered and carefully explored the surrounding ground.

"You have good observation skills," Yu Bin praised Wang Lan, but seeing that Wang Lan's face remained unchanged, he didn't say anything more. He squatted down, stared at the bloody footprints for a while, and said, "Judging from the viscosity of the blood on the footprints, it seems to have been left within the last two days, not too long ago."

Wang Lan nodded, agreeing with Yu Bin's view on the timing of the footprints. "But then again, these two days happen to be the time when the virus outbreak occurred in the market. Who would still go to the market?"

“I don’t know,” Yu Bin shook his head. “As far as I know, our team has basically gathered all the remaining survivors in the safe zone. Everyone else, whether they are ordinary civilians or hunters of average strength, is dead.”

Just then, the hunters who had been searching around made a discovery and shouted, "There's something going on here!"

"I have something to report on my end too!"

"Blood footprints were also found here!"

More and more hunters discovered the bloody footprints, and shouts rose and fell. Wang Lan and Yu Bin exchanged a glance and quickly ran over.

Yu Bin looked at the bloody footprints the hunters had found, examined them carefully, and then said, "They're different from the bloody footprints from before; they're clearly not from the same person."

The two then walked toward the bloody footprints discovered by other hunters, and carefully compared them one by one. To their surprise, they found that there were a lot of bloody footprints in this area, but they did not come from the same person or a few people, but from a considerable number of people.

Judging from the direction of these footprints, they all point to the market.

What kind of people would go to the market at this time?

Questions immediately filled everyone's minds. Wang Lan and Yu Bin stared at the footprints on the ground, as if they could figure it out.

Sun Muchen squatted down next to Wang Lan. She hadn't been paying attention to the bloody footprints, but seeing Wang Lan looking at them with great interest, she also glanced over out of boredom. As her gaze lingered on the bloody footprints closest to her, Sun Muchen suddenly seemed to notice something and frowned.

"What's wrong, Mu Chen?" Wang Lan noticed Sun Mu Chen's expression and asked.

“I…” Sun Muchen opened his mouth, but hesitated, then buried his head again to look at the footprints. Wang Lan was puzzled by his actions.

After observing for a while, Sun Muchen looked up and said to Wang Lan, "Brother, these bloody footprints are heading towards the market, but they came from the same direction as the final fortress."

Everyone was stunned when they heard this. They looked down again and then looked into the distance in the direction from which the bloody footprints had come. Yu Bin frowned and said, "Go and have a few brothers check carefully to see if these footprints came from that direction."

The hunters followed the direction the bloody footprints had come from, carefully observing the bloody footprints on the ground with each step. After walking nearly fifty meters, Yu Bin saw that they did not turn back, so he shouted, "Alright, alright, come back. Do you really want to walk all the way to the final fortress before you feel at ease?"

Those people only realized they had gone far when they heard the shouts, and they quickly returned.

As the hunters stared at the bloody footprints, one of them suddenly said with a hint of excitement, "Since these bloody footprints came from the direction of the Final Fortress, does this mean that the Final Fortress has already begun to intervene in this infectious virus outbreak?"

As soon as he said it, the others gasped in surprise, suddenly realizing what he meant.

That makes sense. The infectious virus is so terrifying that even powerful hunters are wary and flee the market, let alone ordinary civilians.

Leaving aside their hunter team, the only ones currently capable of entering the market are the people inside the final fortress.

The hunters began to discuss among themselves, some even showing eager expressions, suggesting that they hurry into the market and meet up with the people in the final fortress as soon as possible.

But Wang Lan clearly didn't share this joy. He merely glanced at everyone indifferently before squatting down again. Yu Bin then stepped forward and asked, "What's wrong?"

Wang Lan glanced at him and said, "These idiots, don't they think that if it really was someone from the Final Fortress who came out, why would there be blood on their footprints?"

Yu Bin was taken aback upon hearing this.

Seeing the change in his expression, Wang Lan sighed helplessly and silently categorized Yu Bin as a "fool." Then she lowered her head and stared intently at the direction the bloody footprints were heading.

However, the footprints were orderly and well-organized, unlike the unsteady and crooked steps of the infected.

As he was looking closely and pondering, Sun Muchen patted him on the shoulder.

Wang Lan asked, "What's wrong?"

Sun Muchen pointed towards the market and said, "Brother, you have good eyesight. Look over there, isn't there someone?"
