Chapter 18 Verification

Su Wan's body trembled slightly. That clinic...

"What are they going there for?" Her voice was a little woozy.

Aunt Zhang bent down to pick up the spoon, wiped the floor with a rag without raising her head.

"What else can I do?"

"Miss, you are reacting so violently now that you are vomiting so much that you are out of shape."

"The villa is incomplete. Sir has gone to get you some medicine."

Get the medicine... Is it for morning sickness?

Su Wan's hand unconsciously touched her lower abdomen, which was still very flat.

"Which clinic?" she asked again in a hoarse voice.

Aunt Zhang paused in her mopping motion. The wet rag was pressed against the floor, leaving a blurry circle of water marks.

"There's no clinic nearby." Her voice was flat, as if she was stating an ordinary fact.

Su Wan's heart skipped a beat.

There are no clinics? Where do they get medicine?

Aunt Zhang slowly stood up and placed the rag over the edge of the bucket. Water droplets dripped down the cloth, tap, tap.

"If I really want to get the medicine, I'm afraid I'll have to run around all day."

"That place is far away."

The only sounds left in the air were the faint sound of water drops falling to the ground and Su Wan's almost inaudible breathing.

My fingertips became even colder and curled up unconsciously.

"The master left a message before he left." Aunt Zhang turned around and looked elsewhere.

"There are zombies everywhere outside."

"My lady, your health is the most important thing. You should stay in the villa and never go out."

This week of vomiting, plus that unsent text message...

With all these signs combined, she could almost conclude that there was a little life growing in her body.

Is this a good thing?

At least, her life might be saved for a little longer.

The thought did not bring her much comfort. Instead, it felt like a heavy stone pressing on her heart, and along with the churning in her stomach, it made it hard for her to breathe.

That day, Su Wan curled up in bed most of the time.

Feeling groggy and half asleep.

He was so weak that he had no interest in any food and even had difficulty swallowing water.

In a blink of an eye, it was late at night.

They haven't come back yet.

She forced herself to get out of bed and went to the living room.

Sure enough, Aunt Zhang was still there, sitting in a corner of the sofa, holding needle and thread in her hand, as if she was sewing something.

Seeing her coming down, Aunt Zhang put down the work in her hands, her tone still calm.

"Are you hungry, young lady? The soup is warming on the stove."

Su Wan shook her head and sat down on the sofa.

The two looked at each other in silence, and there was an indescribable sense of stagnation in the air.

Aunt Zhang chatted about some irrelevant things, about the weather and the flowers and plants in the villa.

Su Wan just listened and didn't respond.

Her thoughts drifted far away, falling on the vague "clinic" and on Aunt Zhang's words "it's still far away".

Suddenly, a clear sound of a car engine came from far away, breaking the silence of the night.

Here it comes.

Su Wan's heartbeat suddenly quickened, and she stood up almost subconsciously and looked out the window.

The car lights pierced the darkness and stopped steadily in front of the villa.

The car door opened and two familiar figures got out first.

Next came Xiao Han's brother, followed by the heavy sound of something being moved.

Aunt Zhang also stood up and walked to the door.

Su Wan followed and moved over.

In the light of the porch she could see clearly.

Wow, this is not just taking the “medicine”?

Big and small boxes were piled up on the ground, neatly arranged.

Well-packaged medical supplies, syringes, medicine bottles, gauze rolls... there are so many types that it looks like a clean pharmacy.

There were mostly food and drinks, as well as some tools and parts that she couldn't name.

The truck bed was filled with supplies, almost filling up the open space in front of the door.

Lu Shiyan stood in the shadow of the porch and his eyes met Su Wan's.

She was definitely not mistaken, something flashed quickly in his eyes, very complicated, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"Xiao Han, you guys sort the supplies and put them in the storage room first." Lu Shiyan ordered coldly, but his eyes did not leave Su Wan's face, "Put the medicines and medical equipment in Area B separately."

Xiao Han glanced at Su Wan meaningfully, with a faint smile on his face. "Got it."

Su Wan stood there with her arms folded, wearing only a thin nightgown. The night breeze blew past her, causing her to shiver slightly. She wanted to ask so many questions, but she didn't know where to start.

"You're shaking." Lu Shiyan suddenly approached, his voice still cold, "Go back to the house."

"Have you found the clinic?" Su Wan looked up at him and asked stubbornly.

Lu Shiyan didn't answer immediately, but handed her a small box. Su Wan looked down and saw that it was morning sickness medicine.

"Go and rest." He ordered again, "You need to replenish your energy."

Su Wan took the medicine box and said in a weak but firm voice: "But I want to know where you went."

Lu Shiyan's gaze lingered on her pale face for a moment, and finally he sighed.

"Come with me."

He turned and walked towards the study. Su Wan hesitated for a moment, but still followed him.

The moment the study door was closed, Su Wan's heartbeat quickened. She stood by the door, keeping a safe distance from Lu Shiyan.

Lu Shiyan sat down at the table, took out a map from the drawer and spread it on the table.

"Here." He pointed to a red circle, "A hospital in the city center. It took us most of the day to clear a safe route and bring back these supplies."

Su Wan walked closer and looked at the map covered with markings through the moonlight.

"How could you go to such a dangerous place?" Her voice trembled a little.

"The hospital has the medicine you need." Lu Shiyan looked up at her with a complicated look, "and there's also a B-ultrasound machine."

B-ultrasound machine? Su Wan's heart stopped beating, and her hand involuntarily touched her lower abdomen.

"Are you still doubting me?" she asked softly.

Lu Shiyan stood up and walked to the window, his back to her. "I brought back a pregnancy test stick." His voice was soft, but it was particularly clear in the silent room, "and a portable B-ultrasound."

Su Wan raised her head suddenly: "Do you want me to verify it now?"

He turned around, his face expressionless. "Now, immediately, right away." He spoke clearly, without a trace of emotion, "Verify."

Verify it. Su Wan's heart was beating. It should be there.

Oh my God, don't joke at this time!

If this can't be tested... her life will probably be over in advance.

Lu Shiyan didn't give her too much time to think about it. He picked up an unopened box from the side of the table and threw it to her.

Pregnancy test stick.

Then he picked up a black suitcase, placed it on the table and opened it. Inside was a small and sophisticated instrument, a portable B-ultrasound machine.

"Go to the bathroom." Lu Shiyan raised his chin slightly, indicating the direction.

Su Wan clenched the pregnancy test box in her hand.

"Do you need me to 'treat' you?" Lu Shiyan's voice became three points colder.

Su Wan took a deep breath, turned around and walked towards the bathroom in the study. The door closed with a click.

Her heart beat faster.

Unpacking and reading the instructions, every step was like slow motion. My fingers were shaking.

Five minutes. The instructions said to wait five minutes. These five minutes seemed longer than a century.
