Chapter 680: Going Out to Exchange Supplies

Everything was ready. Xiao Yi sat in the driver's seat, took a deep breath, and started the engine of the armored vehicle. The engine emitted a low and powerful roar, as if foreshadowing that this would be an extraordinary journey.

He skillfully controlled the steering wheel, and the armored vehicle slowly drove out of the base gate. The wheels crushed the stones on the ground, making a crunching sound. Xiao Yi stared intently at the road ahead, his hands steadily controlling the direction.

Along the way, the scenery constantly changed. Sometimes it was a barren desert, with strong winds blowing up clouds of dust and sand that slapped the armored vehicle's body; sometimes it was a rugged mountain road, with huge rocks and deep ravines posing a great challenge to driving; sometimes it was a dense jungle, with intricate branches and vines scraping against the vehicle's body from time to time.

But Xiao Yi was not affected by these difficulties at all. Relying on his excellent driving skills and understanding of the performance of armored vehicles, he flexibly avoided one obstacle after another.

During the long journey, Xiao Yi remained alert at all times. His ears listened to every movement around him, and his eyes scanned the various instruments and monitoring equipment in the car from time to time to ensure the safety of the vehicle and supplies.

Finally, after several days of traveling, Xiao Yi saw the outline of another base in the distance. A hint of anticipation flashed in his eyes, and he unconsciously stepped on the accelerator, and the armored vehicle sped towards its destination.

Along the way, Xiao Yi's eyes were always fixed on the road ahead, not daring to slack off. He held the steering wheel firmly in his hands, and every subtle operation was extremely cautious.

As the armored vehicle drove into a seemingly peaceful wilderness, Xiao Yi keenly sensed potential danger. The messy tire tracks on the ground and the surrounding flattened grass set off alarm bells in his heart. He decisively turned the steering wheel and steered away from the area, fearing that a trap or ambush hidden in the dark might suddenly appear.

Xiao Yi slowed down as he passed through a narrow valley. The steep cliffs on either side made him wary, fearing rolling rocks or enemy attacks. His eyes kept switching back and forth between the valley above and the rearview mirror, and beads of sweat unknowingly seeped out of his forehead.

Encountering an abandoned town, Xiao Yi became even more cautious. The dilapidated houses and quiet streets made him feel inexplicably oppressive. He held his breath and listened carefully to the movements around him, fearing that zombies or other unknown threats would suddenly rush out.

Xiao Yi was filled with anticipation and nervousness. He looked forward to reaching his destination safely, completing the material exchange, and bringing more hope and resources to the base. But at the same time, the unknown and dangers along the way kept his nerves on edge.

With every kilometer he advanced, his heartbeat would unconsciously quicken a few beats. Various possible bad situations kept appearing in his mind, while he tried to comfort and encourage himself.

"We must arrive safely and exchange successfully." Xiao Yi muttered silently in his heart. Under his control, the armored vehicle continued to move slowly forward on this dangerous road.

The low and powerful roar of the armored vehicle, like the roar of an angry beast, echoed continuously on the empty road, breaking the surrounding silence.

Xiao Yi sat in the driver's seat, leaning forward slightly, his eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly like a hawk. His eyes moved quickly back and forth between the road ahead, the sides, and the rearview mirror, not missing any subtle movement.

He stared at the road ahead. The straight road seemed to have no end, and every shadow and every raised mound of earth might hide unknown dangers. Xiao Yi's eyes were sharp and focused, as if he could penetrate the layers of fog and see through all potential threats.

Turning his gaze to the sides of the road, the barren fields receded rapidly as the armored vehicles sped by. Xiao Yi kept an eye on the dry grass swaying in the wind, worried that something might disturb it and expose the enemy hidden within. The dark windows of the abandoned houses in the distance were like a pair of prying eyes, making him dare not relax even a little.

Looking at the rearview mirror again, the scene behind the car was shrinking, but Xiao Yi was still observing carefully, in case there were pursuers or other emergencies coming from behind. There was no trace of fatigue or slackness in his eyes, only high alertness and vigilance.

Sunlight streamed through the car window onto his face, and sweat streamed down his forehead, but he didn't even have time to wipe it off. Because on this long and dangerous road, any moment of negligence could have fatal consequences. Xiao Yi knew this very well, so his eyes remained vigilant, never leaving the danger-ridden surroundings for a moment.

When Xiao Yi drove the armored vehicle slowly to the abandoned town, at first, there was an unsettling silence all around. The dilapidated houses were scattered all over the place, and the doors and windows creaked in the wind, as if telling stories of the past.

However, beneath this seemingly peaceful surface, a sudden, blood-curdling roar shattered the silence. A swarm of zombies emerged from all directions like a tide.

Some of them were in tattered clothes, their bodies incomplete, their bones exposed; some had distorted faces, bloodshot eyes, and disgusting mucus flowing from their mouths. They ran in a strange manner, their footsteps chaotic and heavy, like the drumbeats of hell.

The first to appear were several zombies rushing out from the shadows of the street corner, their claws and fangs bared as they madly pounced on the armored vehicle. Immediately afterwards, a large number of zombies also poured out from the abandoned houses on both sides of the road, pushing and shoving each other to form a terrifying human wall.

In the alleys in the distance, zombies continued to pour in, their figures looming in the dust, and their number was so large that it made people's scalps numb. Those hideous faces and twisted arms stretched into the air seemed to be inviting Xiao Yi to die.
