Chapter 66: Frozen Zone Swarm (Part 2)
With the hum of machinery, the heavy alloy gate of the base slowly opened. Xie Mian, holding E Shifang, and Yang Shu followed Xu Qi into the base.
Under the dazzling searchlight, the scene inside the base gradually became clear.
The concrete corridor's sides were pockmarked with bullet holes and dried blood. Area codes were scrawled on the walls in fluorescent paint. Condensation dripped from exposed pipes overhead, forming small puddles on the metal floor.
At the end of the passage are three security gates. Staff members in protective suits are lying on the table bored, waiting for new survivors.
Several malnourished children huddled in the corner, staring at E Shifang with their eyes fixed, their throats swallowing unconsciously.
The air was filled with a pungent smell mixed with disinfectant, sweat and motor oil.
Xie Mian frowned. He didn't expect the northern base to be in such a bleak state.
After completing the epidemic prevention test, Xie Mian was about to walk deeper into the base, but was stopped by a ferocious insect limb:
"Stop, you must pay for supplies to enter the base!"
Standing in front of Xie Mian was a man whose half face had turned into an insect.
His right arm had completely mutated into a sharp insect limb, with a hard shell attached to it, giving off a metallic luster.
He was followed by several similarly mutated insect followers. One of them was fat and big-eared. He deliberately scratched the ground with his mutated forelimbs, making a teeth-grinding sound.
"Liu San, when will the base collect the survivors' supplies? Don't talk nonsense!" Xu Qi said angrily.
"when?"
Liu San twisted his distorted mouth corners, and deliberately knocked on the brand new notice board on the wall with his insect limbs. "The rules were just posted this morning, of course you, a newbie feeding insects outside, don't know!"
The insect followers behind him suddenly burst into shrill laughter. One of them even imitated Xu Qi's patrolling posture, deliberately making his mutated joints make crackling sounds.
Liu San's words stabbed into Xu Qi's heart like a knife.
These ordinary soldiers patrolled outside the base to death, fighting against insect monsters with empty stomachs. They might die every time they went on duty, and they might not even bring back their bodies.
And these damn insect followers, relying on their insect powers, show off their power in the base all day long, and even get priority in supplies.
Xu Qi clenched his fists and suppressed his anger.
"Why, you want to fight? You ordinary soldiers are useless, and you are useless too!"
Xu Qi's eyes were blazing with anger, and he could no longer suppress his anger. He knew he was no match for Liu San and the others, but he no longer cared. The worst that could happen was death.
Just when Xu Qi clenched his fists and was about to rush forward, Xie Mian raised his hand and pressed his shoulder.
"Don't be stupid," Xie Mian said calmly, "They are not worth your life."
Xu Qi gritted his teeth, but ultimately did not move.
Xie Mian let go of his hand, walked forward slowly, and swept his cold eyes over Liu San and others, as if he was looking at a few corpses.
He has supplies, but he will never give them to Liu San and others.
If no one offends me, I will not offend anyone. But if someone offends me... well, it's better for some scum to die.
A faint white light condensed in the palm of his hand.
Yang Shu also stepped forward to teach those who insulted the soldiers a lesson.
Before the end of the world, soldiers defended their country; after the end of the world, these soldiers still risked their lives to protect the people.
The soldiers were all so skinny, but these few people, on the other hand, had rosy complexions and were full of energy.
Fuck you!
E Shifang stood beside Xie Mian with his wings folded, his long neck raised, his eyes full of disdain.
He nudged Xie Mian's leg, signaling him not to intervene, saying Yang Shu could handle the bugs. Xie Mian lowered his eyes to glance at E Shifang, then flicked his fingertips lightly on its snow-white crest as a sign of tacit approval.
Yang Shu moved his wrist and was about to step forward when suddenly an extremely oppressive atmosphere enveloped the entire place.
A slender figure came forward, breaking through the cold wind.
The red coat bloomed in the cold reinforced concrete like a blooming rose of doom; the long black silk hair was blown by the wind, revealing the blood-red ruby earrings on the earlobes; his skin was white and almost transparent, which made the pair of peach blossom eyes that seemed to be smiling even darker than ink.
As he got closer, a strong scent of roses filled the air.
Everyone held their breath.
He was extremely beautiful and aggressive, like a sharp blade drawn from its sheath, dangerous and charming. Liu San and the others unconsciously stepped back, making way for him.
"No need to worry!"
"elder brother--"
His legs moved forward before his mind did. After confirming that the person in front of him was his brother whom he had been thinking about day and night, Xie Mian jumped up and rushed into his brother's arms like a whirlwind, hugging him tightly.
"Brother, I finally found you..."
"Brother, I miss you so much!"
Lin Heng rubbed Xie Mian's head and looked at this younger brother who was the same height as him and always loved to act coquettishly, with a doting smile on his face.
After nuzzling into his brother's arms for a while, Xie Mian finally raised his head. He first looked Lin Heng up and down, then pulled Lin Heng's arm and looked at him carefully from top to bottom, left to right, front to back:
"Brother, you've lost weight! Is it because Fu Ze treats you badly? I'll teach him a lesson for you!"
"Naughty!"
Lin Heng hit Xie Mian so hard that his brain collapsed.
He had just noticed that Xie Mian's eyebrows and eyes were different from before, and had turned green. When Xie Mian raised his head from his arms, he realized that even his hair had turned green.
"What's wrong with you?"
Lin Heng took Xie Mian's hand and was about to ask him in detail, but was interrupted by Liu San.
"Advisor Lin! The base's rules are clear: you have to hand over your supplies upon entering the base! Your brother refuses to pay. What's the matter?"
