"Whatever you want. After I leave, remember to lock the door shut, otherwise the zombies will come up by your scent!"
"Oh, that's so scary! Let me think about it, okay?"
"Okay, I've left you some food. Also, remember to close the curtains, so you don't turn into a zombie when I come back next time!"
"Oh, thank you!"
Ye Lei didn't want to get entangled with Xu Jiao anymore; he had important business to attend to.
He turned and went downstairs, the female knight-errant following closely behind. Xu Jiao stood on the balcony, watching the man drive away, a ripple of emotion stirring within her.
Before Ye Lei got into the car, he noticed Xu Jiao watching him from the balcony.
However, he didn't care. Anyway, Xu Jiao would become his sooner or later. There was no rush to eat her. It would be more delicious to eat her when he was hungry.
More and more vehicles were appearing on the road, presumably because the survivors had received a call from the military and were heading to shelters in the suburbs.
Ye Lei didn't believe that the military's shelters could withstand the ever-increasing number of zombies.
As zombies continue to mutate and upgrade, they will only become more powerful.
Wouldn't it be easier to just scavenge building materials and improve your shelter later?
Thinking of this, Ye Lei's lips curled up into a slight smile.
The vegetable wholesale market by the roadside caught his attention. It was the largest vegetable wholesale market in Tomato City, and he had been there many times when he was running errands.
Ye Lei turned the air conditioning down to the lowest setting, but it was still unbearably hot. Unfortunately, he broke the window on the driver's side, otherwise it would have been much cooler.
With a stylish drift, he drove the car into the market.
Ye Lei walked into the wholesale market and was stunned by the scene inside. The ground was littered with messy vegetables, fruits, and broken eggs.
There were even zombies drinking the egg yolk with relish. Seeing this, Ye Lei almost vomited.
Looking at these zombies, they must have been merchants in the wholesale market before they died. Their clothes were covered in blood and mud, and in some places they were so damaged that their original colors and styles were unrecognizable.
These merchants were originally ordinary people who toiled and struggled to make a living. They may have competed with their neighbors for customers in the market, or they may have argued with each other over price issues.
But now, they have become a group of mindless zombies, fighting each other on the messy ground, as if continuing their habits and hatred from when they were human.
Ye Lei had no time to appreciate the intense zombie battle; he needed to hurry to the warehouse.
Fortunately, the warehouse entrance was empty; there wasn't even a single zombie in sight.
Ye Lei was somewhat surprised. Had these usually arrogant security guards turned into zombies, or had they been bitten by zombies? It didn't seem to make much difference.
Ye Lei led the female knight into the warehouse, and was delighted to see that the fruits and vegetables here were all packaged and had not yet been discovered by the zombies, and were neatly arranged on the shelves.
Since that's the case, then I won't be polite. I'll take in dozens of kinds of vegetables, including scallions, ginger, garlic, chili peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, radishes, potatoes, winter melons, pumpkins, and all sorts of green vegetables.
Ye Lei roughly estimated that there were at least several tons of each type of vegetable, enough to last for a while.
When you get to the condiment section, you'll find oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, barbecue seasoning, hot pot seasoning, and so on. You can't miss these, otherwise, the food you make won't be edible.
When we arrived at the rice and grain section, we bought all the rice and flour for free, totaling more than ten tons of each type.
Walking to the fruit warehouse next door, Ye Lei didn't bother to check what kind of fruit it was and just took the whole freezer along with it.
Then there's the meat warehouse, where pork, mutton, beef, chicken, and duck are all neatly arranged in freezers. Ye Lei doesn't hesitate to put them all into his storage space.
Next was the seafood warehouse. From the signs hanging there, Ye Lei could see all kinds of sea fish, freshwater fish, Australian lobsters, king crabs, various shellfish, abalone, and of course, sea cucumbers, all of which were his favorites.
Finally, there's the beverage and general merchandise section, featuring spirits, beer, wine, bottled spring water, and other soft drinks.
Spicy snacks, canned food, self-heating hot pot, instant noodles, bread.
Tent, sleeping bag, kitchenware, lighter, flashlight, walkie-talkie, binoculars, water purification tablets.
These are all necessities for survival in the apocalypse. If you lose any of them, you may never find them again. You can only have more, not less.
Ye Lei realized that after two rounds of collection, the storage space was almost full, and he had to build a shelter as soon as possible to store the supplies. Looking at the empty warehouse, Ye Lei smiled with satisfaction.
The supplies here are much more abundant than what you would find in a supermarket.
He regretted not coming here sooner. However, having saved Xia Yuhe over there and received a system upgrade seemed to be some kind of compensation.
The female knight-errant stayed close behind Ye Lei, dutifully playing the role of bodyguard. Even when she saw the supplies disappear into thin air, she only widened her eyes in horror and did not ask any questions.
Ye Lei drove his BMW at breakneck speed, heading straight for the school.
When Ye Lei arrived at the school gate, he found it crowded with zombies, and many more were still pouring in.
Ye Lei leaned closer to observe and realized that it was actually the surviving teachers and students of the school who had built a barrier at the main gate using chairs, benches, and bunk beds to fight against the zombies.
The advantage of doing this is that the school temporarily becomes a safe place, but the disadvantage is that more and more zombies will be attracted by the smell of humans.
Inside the isolation wall, a group of students were engaged in a tense and exciting battle. They had no weapons, and the equipment they carried consisted of common everyday items.
Backpacks, filled with school supplies, are now being used to fend off the staggering zombies.
The wooden sticks, perhaps taken from tables, chairs, or brooms, became their makeshift weapons.
Even bedding, those soft items that should bring warmth and comfortable sleep at night, were transformed into defensive tools to fend off the ever-approaching zombies.
The students' resistance reminded Ye Lei of a scene from the popular video game "Plants vs. Zombies".
In the game, sunflowers are one of the plants that players can grow. They can emit sunlight to help other plants grow and also fight off zombies.
Ye Lei raised the corners of his mouth in a faint smile, then stepped on the gas and drove straight toward the back gate of the school.
He knew in his heart that the isolation wall would soon be breached by zombies, and these survivors would either become zombies themselves or become their prey.
However, none of this concerned him; all he cared about was his own personal safety.
He always had only one unwavering goal in his heart: to survive.
