Apocalypse: Starting by Burning 100 Billion Ghost Currencies

Three years ago, an enigmatic calamity descended, causing the collapse of the monetary system and the rampant suppression of this world by rules with extremely low survivability.

Su Luo, in a...

Chapter 20: The school badge has been returned to you. (shuhaige.net)

Upon entering the base, one could see disaster victims who had just arrived from outside everywhere. Many base personnel in uniforms were distributing food, drinking water, and other necessities, while others were registering their names to receive tents.

The food was described as just a few pieces of bread and steamed buns, and it was rationed, with separate supplies for men and women, and for the elderly and infirm. Not to mention the emergency medicines, which were in short supply.

After walking for a while, having hardly seen any young men, Su Luo couldn't help but ask.

"There's no other way. We don't have enough manpower. Many of the young men who have entered the base are already assigned jobs. Some of them even volunteered to go out for search and rescue so that their wives and children could get more food and water."

Having said that, Su Luo wasn't stupid, and naturally understood what was meant.

Further inside, the environment is much better, and some people are even assigned beds.

The deeper you go into the base, the better the environment becomes. In the central area, it's almost the same as before the apocalypse: clean streets, comfortable single rooms, and even decent boxed meals. Although it's not as good as before, it's much better than the lives of the disaster victims on the outskirts of the base.

"The outer perimeter is made up of ordinary disaster victims, while the middle layer consists mostly of business tycoons, celebrities, and other people with some money, since the construction of the base requires funds."

"And in the very center circle lived the families of former Chinese government officials and military officers."

As they walked, listening to Lin Shuyu's introduction, Su Luo gained a general understanding of the base's environment.

"That girl from before, she is the niece of Wu, the richest man in Shanshui City."

"One of the three base chiefs is surnamed Wu."

So that's how it is. No wonder the niece of a billionaire was so arrogant and domineering; it turns out there was this connection.

Just as Lin Shuyu was about to show Su Luo around the other buildings in the base, an internal staff member in uniform rushed over. He looked at Lin Shuyu and then at Su Luo, whispering a few words in Lin Shuyu's ear. Lin Shuyu's expression immediately turned cold.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Su, something's happened here. You'll come with me to the finance department to get the money in a bit, and then I'll send someone to take you home."

"Okay." Something's happened? It's probably aimed at her and Lin Shuyu.

However, since Lin Shuyu doesn't intend for her to get involved, she won't take on too much responsibility.

Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned; there are always some blind people who like to cause trouble.

"Hey, isn't this Captain Lin? Didn't you say you were going to bring him back? Where is he? Where is he?"

"Wu Qishan, how can you be so shameless? You didn't even try to save your own people, and our captain kindly helped you, and now you're turning around and blaming us? Have you lost all your conscience?!"

"Xiao Qi, don't talk nonsense." Lin Shuyu raised her hand to stop Zhang Miaomiao's behavior, not even bothering to glance at Wu Qishan. "I have important things to do right now, I don't have time to chat with you."

"Important matter?" Wu Qishan's gaze lingered between Lin Shuyu and Su Luo. "What could be more important than meeting the base commander?"

"The three base commanders want to see you, and you too."

Wu Qishan provocatively pointed at Lin Shuyu and Su Luo behind him, especially glancing at Su Luo with a meaningful look.

Okay, very good.

Su Luo slightly curled her lips into a playful smile, which vanished in an instant. She then bypassed Lin Shuyu, who was blocking her way, and looked at Wu Qishan with an innocent and naive expression.

"I've long heard that Noah's Base is full of talented people and is the hope of the apocalypse."

"You must be Captain Wu. My name is Su Luo. If we meet again in the Weird Dungeon, I hope you will take good care of me."

Wu Qishan was so flattered that he was completely bewildered, and he smiled broadly, "You're too kind, you're too kind, Lin Shuyu. Look at the young lady you brought back, she's much more sensible than you!"

Only Lin Shuyu and a few other teammates who had witnessed Su Luo's true nature looked at Wu Qishan with great sympathy.

She's sensible, truly sensible. You'll understand just how sensible she is when you actually meet Su Luo in the bizarre dungeon.

Since Su Luo was willing to watch the show, Lin Shuyu did not refuse, and the group entered the central conference hall in a grand procession.

The old man at the head of the group rushed forward to examine Lin Shuyu closely the moment he saw him enter the conference hall. After confirming that Lin Shuyu was not injured, he patted him on the shoulder with satisfaction.

"Thanks a lot."

"It's not hard work," Grandpa said. Lin Shuyu smiled and nodded, but before she could continue, she was interrupted by someone sitting coldly to the side.

"Hmph, he's not tired at all. He didn't even save the person, what's the hardship about it?"

"What do you mean she couldn't be saved? Wasn't this woman a human being?"

The old man who had initially stood up retorted unhappily, prompting the other man to calm down somewhat. He then explained, "Nephew Lin, that's not what I meant. You said you'd help me bring my cousin's son and niece back, but now..."

'Clang.'

Several metal objects fell to the ground, their echoes reverberating in the empty conference hall, immediately drawing everyone's attention.

"Why didn't you bring them back? Here, we brought back all the school badges you asked for."

Su Luo stood indifferently with her hands in her pockets, as if she hadn't been the one who had just thrown out those two school badges.

"These...these are Wu Jinyu and Wu Jiaojiao's school badges?!" Seeing the two bloodstained badges, the man sitting at the head of the table on the side stood up, his eyes bloodshot, his body trembling as he pointed at Su Luo, "You, you..."

"What do you mean, 'I didn't do anything'? They were the ones who asked for it and ran into this weird instance. Team Leader Lin and the others can all testify to that."

"Oh, right, before they were courting death, they were eating and drinking for free in my hut. I'm here to collect the fees."
