Jiang Chan transmigrated from the apocalypse into a melodramatic novel filled with continuous natural disasters: drought, floods, locust plagues, epidemics... and even interwoven with various stran...
She reached out and placed her hand on one of the bulging sacks. Her consciousness sank into the space… *whoosh!* The sack vanished instantly! However, after touching the next sack, Jiang Chan's expression changed drastically! The space… was full!
Her personal storage space wasn't small, but it was already crammed full of all sorts of supplies: grain, meat, weapons, ammunition, tool parts, piles of vegetables, countless miscellaneous collectibles... plus the wheat she'd just brought in... and dozens of bags of it in front of her! And rice behind her! And more vegetables! The space was completely full! There wasn't a single gap left!
A surge of intense frustration welled up inside her! She had just solved the drying problem, and now storage had become another obstacle! She tried using her mind to collect another, smaller sack.
Jiang Chan's face darkened completely.
"What's wrong, Fairy?" Old Man Sun noticed her pale face and asked cautiously.
"...It's alright." Jiang Chan suppressed her anger, looking at the mountain of sacks in front of her, her voice somewhat heavy, "The rest...let's move them to the empty houses we've cleared out in the abandoned village! Choose the driest and sturdiest houses! Raise them! Stack them neatly! Be careful to prevent moisture, insects, and rodents!"
She really didn't want to go through that damn mission again!
Especially since I just came back from two high-intensity missions! I'll make do with this for now! I'll wait until I use up some of my food supplies and free up some space!
Although the crowd did not understand why the fairy did not "take away" the grain, no one dared to question it. They immediately complied, carrying heavy bags of wheat grains to the mud-brick houses in the ruins of the deserted village that had been cleared and could barely provide shelter from the wind and rain.
In the days that followed, the riverside camp entered a busy and fulfilling autumn harvest season. Harvesters roared into the rice paddies!
The "Iron Beast" once again displayed its divine power! Golden rice poured down from the discharge port like a waterfall, filling the canvas bags!
The silver-gray "Radiant Sun" floor mats are laid out again! They absorb the sunlight and dry efficiently! Bags of golden rice are carried into different adobe houses in the deserted village for storage.
Inside the greenhouse, the "abundant and fast-growing" vegetables and fruits are still producing at a frenzy! Cucumbers hang low, tomatoes turn red, celery is tender... Fresh vegetables are picked every day or made into delicious dishes.
Food is more plentiful than ever before! Two meals a day! Rice is unlimited at every meal!
Meat and vegetables are plentiful!
Occasionally, Jiang Chan would even conjure up canned fruit as a treat!
Everyone's body was changing at a visible speed. The sallow complexion on their faces had long since faded, replaced by a healthy rosy glow.
Thin muscles began to appear on their withered chests and arms. Strength returned, energy returned, and they walked with a spring in their step! After finishing work in the evening, the people, having eaten and drunk their fill, no longer lay down early to conserve energy as before. Laughter and cheerful voices began to fill the air around the campfire.
"Hey! Erniu! Arm wrestling! You got it?"
"Come on then! I'm not afraid of you!"
Amidst the cheers of the crowd, the two men began to compete, their faces turning red, drawing applause from the onlookers. Several women, by the light of the fire, mended clothes with coarse hemp thread they had collected, chatting and laughing softly.
Some people couldn't help but hum a tune that was off-key and had a strong local accent.
"Well sung! One more time!" someone clapped in agreement.
On the tranquil riverbank, a campfire crackles, and laughter fills the air. This once desolate wasteland is now brimming with the warmth of human life and the vitality of a well-fed person.
As Chen Yan and Zhou Shi watched the lively scene, peaceful smiles unconsciously appeared on their faces.
Jiang Chan leaned against a large rock, munching on a freshly picked, juicy tomato. Looking at the peaceful and serene scene before her, the restlessness caused by the overflowing space in her heart dissipated considerably.
This temporary peace seems alright, however, it only lasted for three days.
That afternoon, the sun was setting. Inside the greenhouse, Jiang Chan was leading Xiao Tao and several women to pick the new batch of tomatoes. The bright red, round tomatoes emitted an enticing aroma.
Sudden!
"Ah—!!!" A piercing, terrified scream suddenly rang out from the direction of the deserted village, shattering the tranquility of the riverbank!
Immediately following were the sounds of hurried footsteps and terrified shouts: "Bandits! Bandits are coming!"
"Run! Fairy! Bandits!!"
Jiang Chan's expression changed drastically! She rushed out of the greenhouse! From the direction of the abandoned village ruins, she saw Old Man Sun and Wang Mazi, who were responsible for checking the grain storage in the warehouse, scrambling and crawling towards the riverside camp in a panic!
Their faces were deathly pale, their eyes filled with extreme fear, as if a demon was chasing them! And right behind them, dust rose from the direction of the official road!
A dozen or so ragged but unusually tall and burly men, brandishing gleaming machetes, hatchets, and even rusty iron spears, pounced on the riverside camp like hungry wolves smelling blood!
Although they were equally emaciated and had sunken eyes, their ferocious expressions and menacing aura were full of the ruthlessness of desperate criminals!
Their gazes were fixed on the huge, transparent greenhouse on the riverbank, on the faint green and bright red hues visible inside! They were also fixed on the mud-brick houses in the distant, deserted village, piled high with grain!
Greed! Naked, tangible greed! It almost seemed to burst forth from their bloodshot eyes!
"Don't panic! Grab your weapons!" Jiang Chan shouted sharply, her voice icy and piercing! Instantly quelling the chaos in the camp! She immediately pushed Xiao Tao behind her and handed her to a woman beside her, "Take her inside! Lock the door!"
At the same time, she stretched out her right hand, and a dark, cold shotgun instantly appeared in her hand!
With a click, the bullet was chambered!
The crowd was terrified by this sudden turn of events! They only snapped out of their daze when they heard Jiang Chan's stern shout! The men turned pale and frantically grabbed hoes, shovels, machetes, and even thick wooden sticks from the ground!
Women and children screamed and rushed towards the iron house! The scene was chaotic! Chen Yan reacted quickly, grabbing the knife leaning against the wall, his eyes sharp as an eagle, staring intently at the charging bandits!
In just a few dozen breaths, the pack of ravenous bandits had reached the edge of the riverside camp! The leader was a bald, burly man with a hideous scar across his face and a fierce look in his eyes.
He carried a thick-backed, ghost-headed saber, its blade gleaming coldly in the sunlight. His gaze greedily swept over the enormous greenhouse and the distant, faintly visible grain sacks, finally settling on Jiang Chan, who held a strange "iron rod." A flicker of doubt crossed his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a deeper greed and ferocity!
"Listen up, all of you!" the bald, burly man rasped. "We're just passing through this land, borrowing some grain! If you know what's good for you, hand over all your grain! Otherwise..."
He swung his ghost-head saber sharply, the blade pointing at the panicked crowd, a cruel smile spreading across his face. "The knife in my hand doesn't care if you're men or women, old or young! I'll leave no one alive! I'll chop you all up and feed you to the dogs!"
