Chapter 52

That day, in the forest behind Liujia Village, near the middle of Wohu Mountain, five people were walking through the woods. The five were Feng Minghao and his brother, Liu Xiaobao, Tan Jing, and Lin Yuwei. They had come to the forest to hunt for food to prepare for their banquet the next day. Although they weren't planning a big feast, they still needed to prepare some meat dishes for their relatives, friends, and villagers who would be attending. Therefore, Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei decided to hunt a wild boar or some other large game.

As for why so many people came? It's because Feng Mingran heard that his brother and future sister-in-law were going into the mountains. He was worried about them and also wanted to see what it was like. So he talked to his good friend Tan Jing, and the two of them persuaded Feng Minghao to take them up the mountain. As for Liu Xiaobao, Liu Mingyi was a little worried about Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei taking those two people with them, so he asked Liu Xiaobao to come along as well.

As Feng Mingran walked through the forest, he used his machete to chop at the branches blocking his way, while asking the older brother who was walking in front of him, who was tapping the ground with a branch to ward off snakes, insects, rats, and the like.

"Brother, are you sure there really are some large prey here that you mentioned? We've been walking for so long and haven't seen any yet."

"Stop talking so much nonsense. All I've heard on the way here is you chattering away. Even if there was a chance, you would have scared us away. Just follow me."

Feng Minghao was certain there were large prey in the mountains; after all, he, Lin Yuwei, and Liu Mingfeng had seen them on numerous occasions when they went to the back of the mountain, and there was even a family of wild boars in the area they were heading to. However, they didn't plan to go there now; they would wait until they had settled things at home before going to check it out together.

The five people walked through the dense forest, occasionally hunting small prey such as pheasants and rabbits. Feng Minghao even threw a stone at a silly leopard. After walking for a while, Feng Minghao and Lin Yuwei suddenly signaled for everyone to stop. After everyone stopped, they quietly walked forward. When they got closer, Feng Minghao, Lin Yuwei, and the other two heard a series of grunting sounds. The five people followed the sound and saw a large wild boar rubbing against a pine tree under the ground.

Feng Mingran and Tan Qin looked at the wild boar, which weighed at least 500 pounds, and were somewhat at a loss, unsure if the five of them could handle it. Just as they were about to ask Feng Minghao, they were stopped by his shushing. Then, at his gesture, the five of them slowly retreated until they were far enough away from the boar that they wouldn't disturb it when they spoke.

Feng Mingran asked, "Brother, can we handle such a big wild boar?"

Wang Minghao nodded, indicating he could handle it, and then the five of them explored the surrounding terrain. After finding a suitable spot to hunt the wild boar, Feng Minghao told Feng Mingran and Tan Xiang to climb a tree. Seeing this, Lin Yuwei, without needing Feng Minghao's instructions, found a suitable tree and quickly climbed up. Once up, she took the bow from her back and found a good position in the tree. Now she just waited for Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao to lure the wild boar over so she could draw her bow and begin shooting.

Seeing his future sister-in-law's agile movements, Feng Mingran was so astonished that his mouth hung open for a long time. He even nearly fell off a tree because he was so distracted. He had seen the bow on his sister-in-law's back and assumed it was for his older brother. However, his brother was carrying a large basket filled with various items, such as a machete, rope, and even an earthenware pot. They had taken food from that pot to cook lunch that day. That's why his sister-in-law was carrying the bow. He never expected that his sister-in-law would be using it. He had been working with his sister-in-law in the countryside for quite some time, and he had never known that she knew how to use a bow and arrow. But thinking about it carefully, she must know how to use it. Otherwise, why was it always his sister-in-law who had a successful hunt on the mountain, while the others did not? Even the experienced villagers didn't always bring back any game.

Seeing that the three of them had already hidden in the tree, Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao each grabbed a wood-chopping knife and stealthily made their way towards the wild boar's location.

As the three people who had hidden there waited anxiously, they suddenly heard a wild boar howl from the other side. Then they heard a rustling sound, probably from people running and rustling leaves and bushes.

Soon, the three of them saw Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao running towards them. Bloodstains were still visible on the machete Feng Minghao was carrying, indicating he had struck the wild boar, enraging it. As the two approached, the wild boar came into view.

On the wild boar's body, there was a wound of moderate size on its neck, probably made by the woodcutter's knife in Feng Minghao's hand. It didn't seem to be very serious, so the wild boar didn't run away, but instead angrily followed Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao.

Upon seeing Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao, Lin Yuwei immediately drew her bow and aimed at their backs. As the wild boar ran out and followed the two men, she released the bowstring. The arrow flew swiftly towards the wild boar, but perhaps the first arrow wasn't very accurate. It was meant to be aimed at the boar's eye, but it grazed the boar's cheek. Nevertheless, the arrow still left a long, narrow wound on the boar's cheek.

The wild boar was further enraged by this, and it frantically chased after the two men. As they ran, Feng Minghao and Liu Xiaobao would occasionally turn around and strike the boar with their machetes, making the boar even angrier. You could clearly see that its eyes were bloodshot.

Just then, Feng Minghao, who was running, suddenly heard Lin Yuwei call out to him. He immediately understood and ran towards the tree where Lin Yuwei was. The wild boar followed him frantically. Everyone heard the sound of a bowstring twanging, and then saw an arrow shoot rapidly towards the wild boar, hitting it squarely in the left eye.

After being shot in the left eye, the wild boar only had time to let out a cry before its body lurched forward a few steps before collapsing to the ground with a thud.

As the sound of the wild boar falling to the ground came, so too did the sound of Feng Mingran and his two companions' jaws hitting the floor.
