Final Remarks shuhaige.net

This book started writing in mid-January 2023 and ended in November, ten months later, with 1.57 million words. I can only say that it is hard to let it go...

In fact, according to the original estimate, this book could be written to more than two million words, but the results gave me a blow.

I really like the background of League of Legends. From the War College period in S2 to the establishment of the League of Legends universe, I have been paying attention to the background setting of the League and I like it very much.

[To be honest, I've been using Yeguo Reader to keep up with updates lately. It's easy to switch between sources, and has a variety of reading voices. .yeguoyuedu is available for both Android and Apple devices.]

But there are many regrets in the background of League, and Riot is now developing a new game, which has drawn many designers away. The background of the main universe is almost stagnant (especially the clichéd Curse of the Ruined King and Sentinel of Light events written by the skin team).

It just so happened that The Battle of Two Cities was airing, and I wanted to take advantage of the popularity, but because I am a setting party and strive to make the settings follow the original, so I wanted to wait until it was finished before starting to write. I didn't expect that The Battle of Two Cities was a completely parallel universe. By the time I figured out how to integrate the settings into the main universe and from what angle to start, The Battle of Two Cities had actually lost its popularity.

When this book was put on the shelves, it had less than 17,000 collections. It was almost on the Sanjiang Reading List, which had about 1,400 or 1,500 collections. But in the end, there were only 950 subscriptions after it was put on the shelves. The subscription ratio was so poor that it was less than 1,000 subscriptions. I was a little disappointed, but I still planned to keep writing.

The result was just as expected. By the time I finished the second volume, the subscriptions were down to just over 200. It was the editor's recommendation and the bestseller recommendation that saved my life. By the third volume, the subscriptions were back to 500 or 600, and then fell back to over 200. But after getting two front page recommendations and not even having an average subscription of 2,000, I was really upset. Especially during that period, whenever I wrote about my daily life, readers would say that my writing was sloppy...

Then, I thought about speeding up the pace and cutting out almost all the daily life. But when reading fan fiction, in addition to making up for the shortcomings of the original work, many readers also like to hang out with their favorite female characters. Moreover, League of Legends should be written in a "group portrait" style, and the focus should not be solely on the protagonist. So I went astray, cut out some side plots, and began to lose control of the rhythm.

I always said that I wanted to wait until I got home to update 10,000 times a day, but by the fourth volume, the subscriptions were barely over 200, and the pace quickened again. I got another recommendation from the editor, but there was no improvement. There were more than 40,000 collections, and the average subscription was only over 1,000. At this time, I knew that this book was completely hopeless, and I really had no motivation, so I thought about speeding up the pace and finishing it quickly.

When I was writing the later part of the story, the number of new subscriptions per day was less than a thousand, and the follow-up subscriptions were less than two hundred. I was completely depressed and even thought about chopping up the book, but I still finished it bit by bit.

You could say it had a bad ending, but if you think about it, it couldn't be considered a bad ending either. At least the main storyline of the main universe was told, and only the plot was cut out, without involving the side plots. For example, the Curse of the Ruin and the Invasion of the Underworld would not be so sloppy, Ixtal was not involved at all, and the plots of Ionia, Bilgewater, and Mount Targon were all glossed over.

There is also the final battle in the void. According to the original outline, every region should be written about, but now I really have no power to do so, so it is better to just end it directly.

This book could actually be better, that's my problem.

This is the first long novel I was able to finish. It allowed me to accumulate experience, learn lessons, and strive to do better next time.

As for the new book, I started to conceive it when the idea of completing this book came to me.

At that time, I was thinking of starting another League of Legends background book, starting from Ionia. Unfortunately, the beginning I wrote was rejected. In addition, the League background literature is too niche now and cannot compare with e-sports literature at all. So I thought about it again and again and decided to write an original book next.

Steampunk, SBC Foundation and a little Cthulhu elements are the style of the next book. The detailed outline has been written and the settings are complete. It is expected to be published next month.
