Recently, Tokyo Nichiuri TV host Yoko Okino conducted an exclusive interview. Her interviewee was the renowned private detective and special consultant to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department...
Police officer Mr. Furuya visited Yoruichi Toyama in Fudoyama City on a Wednesday afternoon.
According to him, he couldn't take a day off because the Poirot Cafe where he worked was busiest on weekends.
"So you can slack off at both the police and the brewery jobs, right?" Yoruichi Toyama added.
At the same time, looking at the face of that middle-aged man who had been carefully disguised and made to look ordinary, I couldn't help but laugh.
Rei Furuya, however, remained calm and, seeing that there were no customers in the shop, simply sat down on the sofa in the cafe.
Akemi understood and made coffee for him, then brought it over.
"I heard that the coffee shop downstairs from the Mouri Detective Agency has a Mr. Amuro who makes really good coffee, and it's been praised by many customers."
She smiled and winked at Rei Furuya as she spoke.
"I wonder if you like the coffee I make?"
Rei Furuya politely picked up his cup and took a sip, his eyes full of smiles.
"Miss Akemi's cooking skills are, of course, impeccable."
"I think even Amuro would have to admit defeat."
This guy's flattery skills are truly masterful.
Yoruichi Toyama snorted and sat down opposite him.
"Just say what you want to say. Inspector Furuya wouldn't be visiting our shop just to pry into some trade secret like coffee making."
"You still dare to talk!" Furuya Rei rolled his eyes. "Thanks to someone's terrible idea, now there are three more people who know about the brewery. I have to write reports, protect them, and every day I can hear that father-in-law and son-in-law upstairs making a ruckus while trying to build their relationship..."
“If I didn’t have something to do, I definitely wouldn’t come to this kind of troublemaker.”
When close friends meet, it's impossible not to exchange a few playful insults.
After everyone had finished speaking, the atmosphere became more harmonious.
When Yoruichi Toyama heard herself being called a troublemaker, she just smiled, but then another question came to mind.
"By the way, speaking of your winery's confidentiality policy, it doesn't seem to be that strict, does it?"
"Just based on the fact that Gin kills people in public places for no reason..."
Upon hearing "Gin," Furuya Rei, using the pseudonym "Bourbon," groaned and covered his face with his hands.
He looked quite helpless.
"Don't even mention him! He doesn't know what it means to be low-key. He's practically flying an armed helicopter over Tokyo. The boss is having a terrible headache with that guy!"
Yoruichi Toyama almost burst out laughing, clutching her stomach as she reached out and patted his shoulder.
"Believe me, given time, he will open it, and it's not impossible that he will even shoot down Tokyo Tower."
Joking aside, even setting aside the shooting of Tokyo Tower, Yoruichi Toyama felt that the brewery was not actually completely submerged in darkness as they claimed.
It's perfectly normal for those who have been used and then abandoned to be silenced.
But those people rarely died quietly, unnoticed.
Shooting, poisoning, arson... it seems like they wouldn't dare say "this is how our distillery silences people" unless they create a murder case that alarms the police.
This doesn't seem like the behavior of a dark organization that completely hides its existence.
After hearing Yoruichi Toyama share these thoughts, Rei Furuya, though his masked face remained impassive, revealed a hint of surprise and admiration in his eyes.
“Do you know, Toyama?” he said earnestly, staring intently at Yoruichi Toyama’s face, “that even Ms. Akemi and Ms. Shiho may not know all of the things you’ve brought up.”
“I do know very little,” Mingmei nodded in agreement. “But what’s wrong with silencing those who know?”
"Even if the police find the murdered people, they probably won't be able to solve the case..."
Yoruichi Toyama's previously whetted appetite immediately sank again.
Indeed, in this world, the abilities of the Japanese police seem even more inadequate than they actually are.
No wonder Gin drugged Shinichi Kudo and then just dumped him there without even cleaning up the scene.
The same applies when he shot "himself" at the dock.
Presumably because she left behind her identity information as "Hirota Masami," the police did not conduct further investigation and discovered that what was spilled at the scene was not blood but red syrup.
Not to mention taking footprints.
It seems that the reason why distilleries, especially Gin, act so brazenly is because they are spoiled by the incompetent police.
“However, that’s only one aspect,” Furuya Rei said at this moment.
"How the subordinates act is their personal style, but the boss doesn't intend to be so lenient and rely entirely on the police making mistakes."
"Besides, there's that oddball in your family, the young master of the gold watch group."
His words sounded sarcastic, but the underlying meaning was very sincere.
Yoruichi Toyama smiled and nodded, offering no objection to his sudden inclusion of Akechi into his own household.
"Speaking of which, since you've managed to get in touch with the distillery bosses, is the reason you haven't taken them all down because of this?"
This time, Furuya Rei didn't offer any more praise; he simply took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled.
"First, let me correct you. The person I can contact is not the boss of the distillery, but his deputy, the number two person in the organization, Rum."
As if trying to calm himself down, he began to explain in a rambling manner.
His gaze then became quite serious.
"And what I'm referring to is why Rum often doesn't stop Gin from acting so flamboyantly..."
That's because some things are done for 'certain people' to see.
"The secret network that the people controlled by the distillery have built up over the years is far more complex than I can currently see."
