As a Mage, I Only Want to Pursue Truth

A mage accidentally drifts to Blue Star. The intelligent life on Blue Star cannot influence reality by manipulating dark matter, thus the mage loses their casting ability.

In order to recover...

Chapter 397

Compared to the bitter and mundane real world, the virtual world offers an unprecedented and exciting experience at a very low cost.

Before the official launch of Blue Star II, I thought the middle class would be dissatisfied because the gap between themselves and the lower class in terms of life experience had been leveled.

Human sense of superiority and happiness largely stem from comparison.

The upper class will also feel dissatisfied because the lower and middle classes lose their willingness to work.

In fact, Blue Star II has been launched for a year. People outside the grassroots level are indeed dissatisfied for the reasons I mentioned above, but the convenience brought to them by the virtual world far outweighs the loss of their sense of superiority.

For the upper class, the true significance of Blue Star II lies not in its price, but in its time. The time saved for them is enough to make them put aside any dissatisfaction with the virtual world.

Not to mention the amazing discoveries made by the Earthlings in their fantasy world.

Beyond the numerous conveniences of Blue Star II, what I see is the compression of personal space by monopolistic giants due to technological development.

Since the beginning of the information society, people have been continuously giving their data to internet companies, and later we gave our data to various traditional enterprises in exchange for convenience in our lives.

The internet records everyone's every move.

In the era of the virtual world, people are giving up more data, even their own memories and feelings, to companies as a data exchange pool, where everyone can get the feelings they want.

In fact, the quality of life for individuals has been greatly improved. Previously, you might only be able to enjoy a tiny fraction of the whole pool in your entire life, but now how much you can enjoy depends on how long you live.

In the information age, individuals gave their data to companies, but large-scale data breaches occurred every year, from internet companies to courier companies to hotel groups. No company that collects user data on a large scale has ever been free of data breaches.

People may appear to have multiple layers of protection on the internet, but in reality, they are in a state of constant flux.

Once inside the virtual world, all the data was controlled by one company—all the data, all the feelings, and I even suspect that everyone's memories were controlled by Kechuang Bio.

It was placed in a storage medium of unknown location by Kechuang Biotechnology.

Some scientists speculate that the innovative organisms have transformed the entire ocean into a large-scale biological data center.

I don't know if that's true, but having all the data in one company is more frightening than having data scattered across different companies and constantly experiencing data breaches.

If Kechuang Bio wanted to, they could even completely recreate a person.

Unrestricted power is something we should all be wary of.

I believe we need some means to restrict innovative biotech companies, instead of the current situation where these companies cede some of their profits to our country, and our country willingly relinquishes its regulatory powers.

Where did the tough stance that regulators had taken when Chinese companies listed on NASDAQ, forcing Chinese internet companies to hand over their data for auditing, go?

I saw a conspiracy theory online that Zheng Li had to offer a certain amount of longevity potions to the Guangming Society every year.

I accept part of this conspiracy theory, namely that they must have reached some kind of tacit understanding behind the scenes.

I don't see this as tribute; it's an exchange. Zheng Li offered some special privileges in exchange for the entire American market.

The Americans haven't enjoyed these benefits, and we don't even have the right to know about them; we can only complain like clowns on social media.

In short, Blue Star 2 has many good features, but I think it would be much better to hand it over to governments of various countries and form a joint agency for supervision than to its current form.

Chapter Six: The Fantasy World

If the "future" were released in 2031, everyone would want to go to "The Wizarding World," and almost everything about "The Wizarding World" on all streaming platforms would become the most popular video.

As for "Fantasy World"? Nobody cares.

Nobody cares about a single-player world.

All players considered this a world similar to a beginner's guide to the game, and almost no one was interested in investing time in it.

They have acquired users of the "future" in areas not yet covered by biocommunication networks.

These users were forced to focus their energy on the fantasy world.

Once inside, it's an endless escape, a constant struggle to evade the pursuit of all sorts of bizarre creatures.

Even if born into the human world, they still cannot escape the fate of dying inexplicably.

Compared to the friendly magical world, the fantasy world is practically hellish.

Even among users who are forced to play this game, very few manage to stick with it.

Later, when people determined that the fantasy world and the magical world were on the same planet, and that the information contained in the fantasy world could help in exploring the magical world, people gradually began to try to explore the fantasy world in greater depth.

Only then were the secrets behind the fantasy world revealed.

In fact, from the very beginning, there were some self-proclaimed hardcore players who kept getting killed and having to start over because they couldn't save their games and had to restart every time they died.

Even after dying a certain number of times, when they faced new ways to start, they persevered.

These players, after discovering the secrets of the fantasy world, proclaimed themselves immortals.
