Chapter 41 OPPO Link All I

At the beginning of 2021, OPPO took the lead in launching an attack.

OPPO's Chief Product Officer, Liu Zuohu, posted a video on Weibo:

"Define the next decade!"

In the video, Liu Zuohu is wearing white, half-covered headphones and holding an OPPO phone that looks like it has never been released.

"Hello everyone, I am Liu Zuohu. Today I will show you OPPO's latest technology."

"This is a new phone that OPPO will release this year, which we have named OPPO Link All Generation 1."

"It is the culmination of OPPO's technological achievements and will define the next decade for the mobile phone industry!"

“The biggest difference between Link All and traditional mobile phones is that it completely frees your hands and is a mobile phone that can be completely controlled by your brain.”

"Users can use this earphone on my ear, which we internally call Cloud Ear, to directly control their mobile phones with their brains."

"Now I'll show you some actual demonstration footage."

After finishing speaking, Liu Zuohu placed his phone on the table half a meter away from him, and then stretched out his hands to indicate that he had not touched the phone.

The video camera focused on the OPPO Link All, showing a smooth scrolling through Weibo on the phone screen. It even allowed users to type, and successfully searched for Liu Zuohu's Weibo account through the search bar and followed him.

"OPPO Link All connects your brain and phone through Cloud Ear, which can accurately recognize your intentions and help you control your phone."

"Everyone can look forward to the launch of OPPO Link All, which will be the most amazing product OPPO has ever made!"

After Liu Zuohu posted on Weibo, OPPO's official Weibo account simultaneously released a promotional video and ran a splash screen ad on Weibo.

The hashtag "OPPO Brain-Computer Connection to Phone" quickly topped the trending search list, partly due to OPPO paying for the trending search, and partly due to the spontaneous discussion among netizens after reading the post.

"Holy crap, OPPO, YYDS!"

"When did OPPO develop this kind of cutting-edge technology?"

"Where's the rice? Come out and show yourself, rice! This is real cutting-edge technology!"

"Is this technology an original creation in China? I haven't seen any phones with it yet."

"Brain-computer interfaces have already been commercialized? They're actually so close to becoming a reality!"

"This is the first time I've felt a strong desire to buy an OPPO phone."

"Can you guarantee production capacity? For new technologies like this, the initial production capacity is usually insufficient."

"Don't copy rice's scarcity marketing strategy. When the Xiaomi Mi Mix full-screen phone used scarcity marketing, I simply didn't buy it."

"Brain-computer interfaces are already available; are we still far from virtual reality?"

"Will this kind of brain-computer interface steal information from your brain? Will it steal your memories?"

OPPO's brain-computer interface technology for mobile phones has sparked heated discussions, with almost everyone talking about this technology.

Since the advent of full-screen displays, the mobile phone industry hasn't undergone any fundamental changes for far too long. Every year, the only improvements are in camera technology, screen quality, and the size of the notch on the screen.

Or perhaps the chips are faster—these are things that mobile phone companies have been promoting over and over again.

The ability to directly control a phone through the brain has made many users who didn't want to change their phones feel the urge to do so.

OPPO is very proud of itself for being the first to use a brain-computer interface phone, while other phone manufacturers are unhappy. They argue that since the technology is from suppliers, why is OPPO acting as if it's their own invention?

Among other mobile phone manufacturers, Xiaomi was the most frustrated because Xiaomi was the first to receive samples from Kechuang Biotechnology. Their R&D progress was faster than other manufacturers, and their products were able to be launched the earliest.

Dami originally expected their brain-computer interface phone to have a more stunning effect than the Mix full-screen phone from back then, but OPPO not only revealed the answer, but also gave the title of the first brain-computer interface phone to its own Link All.

"What are you doing? What about our publicity? Why did OPPO beat us to it?" Lin Bin, the vice president of DaMi, reprimanded his subordinates.

"The brain-computer interface technology will be kept secret until the spring press conference. It has been approved by the meeting."

Lin Bin countered, "Didn't you keep track of OPPO's movements in real time? If we had known that OPPO would take the lead ahead of us, we should have taken appropriate measures."

"We could have had Lei Jun release the video in advance to avoid OPPO getting a head start."

"Lei Jun will release the video first, and then we'll follow up with it through trending topics. OPPO's popularity will just be doing the work for us!"

Many well-known companies, both domestically and internationally, have founders who are closely tied to their businesses. This is especially common in Chinese internet companies, from Xiaomi, Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu to JD.com and ByteDance, all of which have founders with a strong presence.

Lehman Brothers, Tesla, and, long before that, Ford and Disney were all such companies.

However, there are relatively few founders who are keen on becoming KOLs; only Musk, Lei Jun, and Ma Yun are examples.

Lei Jun, as a well-known KOL in the mobile phone industry, is capable of single-handedly making OPPO suffer in silence in terms of publicity.

"But it's not too late now. We're not the only ones in a hurry. Vivo, Samsung, and Huawei are definitely anxious too. Let's find an opportunity to release the news."

"Remember to focus your publicity efforts on the timing of our press conference and the official launch date of the phone!" Lin Bin repeatedly instructed.
