Chapter 5 - What a stroke of luck!

"Sisi, what are you doing here?"

Qin was startled when she pushed open the door. She picked her up and choked up, "Sisi, are you also reluctant to part with Fifth Brother?"

Long Sisi used her chubby little hands to wipe away her tears, "Mommy, don't cry. Wuguoguo will be better tomorrow. Mommy, don't worry. If you keep crying, you won't be pretty anymore."

Knowing it was meant to comfort her, Qin sniffed. "Alright, Mother will listen to Sisi. Mother won't cry anymore. How about Mother carries Sisi to bed?"

Long Sisi nodded.

After putting Sisi to sleep, the whole family gathered together to discuss the fifth child's funeral arrangements. The atmosphere was oppressive and filled with despair.

"Mother, I just checked Fifth Brother's breathing, it's very weak, he can only hold on until tomorrow morning at most." Qin Shi said, holding back her tears.

The old lady sighed, "Never mind, let's make him some nice clothes to send him off. These days, you either die of illness or starvation. It'll save him from suffering if he leaves early."

Zhou Erqian sat dejectedly at the door, holding her head and weeping.

Qin sighed and went into the fifth son's room.

After keeping watch all night and finishing the clothes, Qin rubbed her back and got up to check on the fifth son's condition.

Upon seeing this, she screamed in fright.

"ah--!"

"What's wrong, Mom!" Zhou Erqian rushed in.

The old lady arrived in a panic, asking, "What happened? What's wrong?"

Qin pointed to the bed with trembling hands.

The two of them looked over and were both startled.

The fifth brother was staring at them with his eyes wide open.

Thinking that her son had died with his eyes wide open in disbelief, Qin's legs went weak.

She cried, “My son, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for not having enough money to find you a doctor. I’m so sorry, my son. Come back to me in the next life, and I will treat you well. Go in peace.”

"mother."

A cold voice interrupted her crying.

Qin was taken aback. "Am I hallucinating? How come I heard Fifth Brother's voice?"

The fifth brother, Xie Yan, straightened himself up and called out again, "Mother, I'm not dead."

The old lady snapped out of her daze, quickly grabbed his arm, and burst into tears of joy, “It’s warm, it’s warm! Fifth Brother is alive! Fifth Brother has come back to life!”

Zhou Erqian hugged him, her eyes red, "Fifth Brother, you're alright, that's great, we thought..."

"God bless, God bless!" Qin cried, covering her face. Suddenly, the words Sisi had used to comfort her the day before flashed into her mind.

Sisi said that Lao Wu will be better today.

As it turns out, he really is better today.

Is it just a coincidence?

Just then, Xie Yan's stomach suddenly rumbled.

The old lady wiped away her tears and hurriedly ran out to get the chicken she had saved from yesterday. "Fifth brother, this is the little bit left over from yesterday. Eat it quickly. It's good that you're alive, it's good that you're alive."

Xie Yan frowned. "Where did this chicken come from?"

Qin excitedly chimed in, "It's all thanks to Sisi, God sent it to us. Fifth brother, you have no idea how amazing it is. Sisi just said she wanted to eat chicken, and this chicken came right away."

When Sisi was mentioned, Xie Yan's eyes showed a hint of disgust. His leg was injured because of her, so it would be a lie to say he didn't resent her.

He said coldly, "She's not stupid anymore?"

"Yes, yes, Sisi is so smart now. She's still sleeping, I'll bring her over for you to see in a bit."

Zhou Erqian scoffed, "Mother, don't brag. She just picked up a chicken. Don't forget how unlucky our family has been ever since she became our jinx!"

Qin moved her lips but did not speak.

Long Sisi got out of bed early in the morning.

Her family was too poor, so she had to find a way to get some of the good food out of the space, otherwise the whole family would go hungry.

The little guy toddled around the yard with his short legs.

Soon, the courtyard became lively.

Zhou Erqian, who was fuming as he came out of the house, was suddenly hit by something. He picked it up and saw that it was a plump goose.

He stared wide-eyed and exclaimed, "Why are wild geese falling from the sky?"

The old lady came out when she heard the noise.

I was so shocked when I saw it. After so many years of drought, this was the first time I had ever seen such fat geese.

She muttered in disbelief, "Chickens and geese, could it be that the Zhou family has struck it rich?"

"Grandma, there's an egg!"

The little guy came running over with his short legs, holding two white and tender duck eggs in his hands, looking up at the sky waiting for praise.

"Oh my goodness!" the old lady exclaimed in surprise. "Where did these duck eggs come from?"

Long Sisi pointed.

The old woman's withered eyes widened in surprise. There was a large nest of duck eggs in the haystack, which looked to be at least one or two hundred.

What's even more shocking is that there were three ducks quacking happily next to the duck egg.

The old lady slapped her thigh excitedly, "Goodness, Sisi isn't stupid anymore, and our family's luck has improved too. Chickens, geese, fish, duck eggs, and everything else have come. Even the fifth child has miraculously survived. Sisi is truly our family's little lucky charm."

“Yes, and some people even say that our Sisi is a jinx, that’s utter nonsense.” Qin glared at Zhou Erqian.

Tuesday was a day of dissatisfaction.

He didn't believe that these things were thanks to that jinx.

Zhou Erqian reached out and pinched Long Sisi's proud little face with a sneer.

"You brat, don't get too cocky. I don't believe you're a lucky charm. You're clearly a jinx!"

Long Sisi pouted and was about to cry when he suddenly let go, turned around in a panic, and then twisted his ankle and fell to the ground.

The little guy was amused and blew a big bubble from his snot.

Zhou Erqian gritted his teeth; sure enough, being associated with this jinx meant bad luck!

He propped himself up to get up and start cursing when he suddenly touched something round and plump. He looked down and was so shocked he almost jumped up.
