If the Tang Empire won, it would say to its opponents: "You damn well behave yourself in the future, or be careful that I wipe out your entire clan. Pay tribute obediently every year!"
<...Speaking of Annam, it was quite a peculiar country. It also had another name: Jiaozhi.
As early as the reign of Emperor Shenzong, specifically in the seventh year of the Xining era, Jiaozhi had already skipped this step once.
The background is this: Jiaozhi was originally part of China's territory, but later became a vassal state. In those years, Jiaozhi defeated the Khmer and Champa countries, and thus Jiaozhi began to expand.
The Kingdom of Jiaozhi, believing itself to be the best in the world, began to covet the Song Dynasty.
However, they lacked a reason to send troops, and coincidentally, during the reign of Emperor Shenzong, Wang Anshi was carrying out reforms.
So Li Changjie and the Joseon emperor made a snap decision and produced a proclamation entitled "The Campaign Against Song Buru".
The original text is as follows:
The people are born to live in harmony; the ruler's virtue brings peace and prosperity. The way to govern the people lies in nurturing them.
I have heard that the Song emperor is incompetent and does not follow the sage's example. He listens to An Shi's greedy and wicked plans and has created the Green Sprouts and Labor Service tax, which makes the people's wealth spread far and wide, so that the emperor can enrich himself.
The people are endowed with resources by Heaven, yet suddenly they fall victim to the poison of Yao Li. It is fitting that Heaven should be so, and we should pity the past, but let us not speak of it.
My duty is to be ordered by the King to guide the way north, to quell the turmoil of evil, and to divide the land but not the people.
We must sweep away the filth and defilement, and sing praises of the glorious days of Yao and Shun. I am now sending troops to rescue them; this proclamation will be widely known upon its arrival.
Think carefully and do not be alarmed.
Judging from the literal meaning of the title of the proclamation, it means to punish the evil Song Dynasty, to spread sweet dew to the world, and to bless all people.
Judging from the original text, the ruler of the Song state—note, the ruler—did not recognize Emperor Shenzong as the emperor of the world, saying that the ruler of the Song state was incompetent and appointed a treacherous minister like Wang Anshi.
Wang Anshi's new laws were specifically designed to plunder the people's wealth and poison the nation.
Now that my country of Jiaozhi has defeated both the Khmer and Champa, it is so powerful that even I am afraid. Seeing the people of Song so pitiful, I cannot just sit idly by.
Alright, I'm off to the north to save the world, so don't be intimidated by my domineering aura!
Therefore, Li Changjie and Zong Dan divided their troops into two routes, advancing by both land and sea to attack the Song Dynasty.
On December 30, 1075 and February 1 of the following year, they captured the two prefectures of Qin and Lian in succession, killing more than 8,000 people.
Finally, Li and Zong joined forces to besiege Yongzhou.
Prefect Su Jian of Yongzhou led the people to hold their ground. At that time, Yongzhou had only 2,800 soldiers. After trying to recruit soldiers, they barely had more than 4,000.
Su Jian led the soldiers and civilians of Yongzhou in inflicting heavy casualties on Li's army when they were isolated and without support, killing and wounding more than 15,000 Li soldiers and a large number of war elephants.
But in the end, it still burst, and poor Su Jian could only have all 36 members of his family commit suicide, and he himself set himself on fire.
Unable to find Su Jian, Li Changjie became enraged and massacred nearly 60,000 soldiers and civilians in one fell swoop.
Later, the Song Dynasty sent troops to fight, and they won the battle, but it ended with a peace agreement between the two sides.
Zhao Huan had seen this part of history online in his previous life.
Those who deserve revenge should still seek it!
Are Li Changjie's grave and ancestral grave still there? Should we dig them up and feed them to the dogs?
There are no descendants, but the descendants of the clan are still alive, right? Should we bury them all alive?
Li Changjie was also a descendant of the Chinese people, yet he slaughtered his own compatriots. Zhao Huan couldn't sit still if he didn't avenge this grudge. Every time he thought about it, he couldn't even eat.
The royal family of the Joseon Dynasty can all go to hell.
Now, taking advantage of the chaos in the south, they're trying to cause trouble for China.
Why do so many people in this world always seem to be courting death?
I feel uncomfortable if I don't kill some.
Zhao Huan then asked Huang Yanli, "Continue."
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, I have finished speaking, I have truly finished speaking..."
"Tell me what intelligence you've gathered in the Song Dynasty over the years, and who you've contacted?"
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty, I am innocent. My loyalty to the Song Dynasty is as clear as the sun and moon. The reason I sent information to Wanyan Gao was actually to send false information to mislead them."
"That's not what I'm asking. If you answer incorrectly again, I won't be able to control the knives in their hands."
Huang Yanli cried and begged, "I'll tell you everything! I'll tell you everything!"
"Five years ago, I was a spy who delivered intelligence about the Liao Kingdom to King Tong. I spent a year in Yanjing, the capital of the Liao Kingdom, before switching to the Jin Kingdom."
Huang Yanli was so stubborn that he refused to admit that he was a spy for the Jin Dynasty, and even Tong Guan withdrew.
Zhao Huan was slightly surprised, not expecting that this guy had a relationship with Tong Guan.
Tong Guan was already dead, so he had no reason to frame a dead man.
"Anything else?"
"At the end of last year, when I was in Tokyo, Li Bangyan and Bai Shizhong asked me to deliver intelligence to the Jin army."
As soon as he said this, even Li Gang's ears perked up.
At the end of last year, when the Jin army was crossing the Yellow River, Li Gang resolutely advocated for war.
What intelligence should we send?
"Deliver all intelligence within Tokyo."
Zhao Huan sighed inwardly; now the truth behind this historical mystery had been revealed.
In orthodox history, Li Gang and Yao Pingzhong launched a night attack on Wanyan Zongwang and suffered a great defeat. Some people say that the Song army's intelligence was leaked, and now it seems that it was indeed true that someone leaked the intelligence.
These damned bastards are the current prime ministers of the Song Dynasty!
Zhao Huan really wanted to dig up the ancestral graves of Li Bangyan and his ilk.
Zhao Huan didn't want to ask any more questions. He considered himself a suspicious person, and if he asked too many questions, the guy would figure it out and start to mislead him, making random accusations, which made Zhao Huan unhappy.
With the attitude that "I already know all the important information about you, and you're no longer of any use to me," Zhao Huan stood up and laughed, "Where is your ancestral home?"
Upon hearing this, Huang Yanli was overjoyed. The emperor was asking about his ancestral home. Did this mean he was going to be allowed to return to his hometown?
Otherwise, why would anyone ask about someone's ancestral home?
