Chapter 391: Reluctance to Let Granddaughter Follow Her Own Path

Ye Rongyuan felt disappointed that he hadn’t held Ann all morning. Now that they were finally at the company, he thought he could embrace her, but before he could even ask, his mother spoke up.

"You all have an early meeting, so Ann will stay in my office for now. You can come to her when you’re done." Old Mrs. Ye had no intention of discussing it further as she walked toward her office with Ann in her arms.

Ye Rongyuan stood frozen, taken aback. Wasn’t Ann supposed to be with him at work today? Why did it feel like she was here to accompany his mother instead?

However, his mother’s reasoning was sound; he couldn’t miss the meeting. With a sigh, he felt the weight of the day ahead and, for a moment, understood the frustration Qin Qianyi had felt that morning—he didn’t want to work either.

But as the president, he had no choice.

Old Mr. Ye, noticing his son’s disheartened expression, patted his shoulder. "Go prepare for the meeting. It’s important today."

Ye Corporation was launching several new projects, making this a critical time. Even Old Mr. Ye, as chairman, needed to be present to keep a close eye on everything.

With a resigned nod, Ye Rongyuan replied, "I understand, Dad."

Meanwhile, Qin Sui’an rested her little head on her grandmother’s shoulder, her bright eyes glancing back at her uncle.

Seeing him look so down, she chirped, "Uncle, you have to work hard!"

Her sweet tone cheered him up instantly; his frown turned into a smile as he nodded enthusiastically, "Of course! I’ll work hard!"

Old Mrs. Ye watched her son enter his office, a hint of helplessness in her gaze. Sometimes, he still acted like a child, which left them feeling exasperated.

Lucy quickly approached and opened the door to Old Mrs. Ye’s office.

Seeing her husband still following them, she raised an eyebrow. "You should work hard too."

"I know; I’ll drop you off and leave," Old Mr. Ye replied with a smile.

Without saying more, Old Mrs. Ye entered the office, cradling her granddaughter.

Old Mr. Ye stood outside for a moment before closing the door behind them. He instructed Lucy, "Let me know if anything comes up."

"Of course, sir," Lucy responded.

Since Old Mrs. Ye, Old Mr. Ye, and Ye Rongyuan all had offices next to each other, he wasn’t overly worried about his wife and granddaughter.

Inside the office, Old Mrs. Ye set Qin Sui’an down gently.

Curious, the little girl gazed around the office. It seemed formal, just like her father’s and uncles’ offices, making her hesitant to play.

Noticing her unease, Old Mrs. Ye comforted her. "I don’t come here often, so there’s nothing important around."

Qin Sui’an remembered her grandmother bringing work to her mother in the hospital and began to piece things together. Grandma likely avoided the company to spend more time with Mommy.

She moved closer and hugged Old Mrs. Ye’s waist.

Surprised, Old Mrs. Ye asked, "What’s the matter, Ann?"

"I just wanted to hug Grandma~" the little girl replied shyly.

Old Mrs. Ye smiled warmly, ruffling her hair. "Sweetheart."

To distract her from any worries, Old Mrs. Ye said, "Ann, there’s a photo album on my desk with pictures of your mommy. Why don’t you go take a look?"

Excited, Qin Sui’an hurried to the desk, but it was taller than her. She stretched her little hands, asking, "Where’s the album?"

"It’s in the left cabinet. The key is under the keyboard," Old Mrs. Ye instructed with a gentle smile.

Qin Sui’an managed to reach the key and quickly opened the cabinet, revealing several thick albums inside.

Old Mrs. Ye guided her. "The first album has more pictures of your mommy; the others are your uncles’."

The first album’s cover featured a photo of her mother, who looked vibrant and cheerful, wearing a long dress and a unique hat.

Lost in admiration, Qin Sui’an gazed at the picture, her big eyes sparkling.

Old Mrs. Ye approached, observing her granddaughter’s fascination. She sat behind her and held her close, lifting the album. "This was taken when your mommy graduated with her master’s degree."

Pride filled her as she reflected on her daughter’s accomplishments compared to her peers. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Qin Sui’an exclaimed in awe, "Mommy is amazing~"

"Yes, she is," Old Mrs. Ye replied, stroking her hair. "Your mom never caused me any worries in school, unlike your uncles, who almost failed their classes."

Though Qin Sui’an didn’t understand what failing meant, she got the gist that her uncle wasn’t quite as accomplished as her mother.

Determined, she said, "Ann won’t be like Uncle; I’ll study hard and not worry Mommy!"

Old Mrs. Ye laughed softly, "You’re much smarter than your uncle. Your mom... doesn’t need to worry."

A subtle pause lingered as she remembered her daughter was still in the hospital, and ’when she might wake was uncertain.

Sensing her grandmother’s change in mood, Qin Sui’an gently held her hand and said seriously, "Don’t worry, Grandma. Mommy will wake up!"

Old Mrs. Ye held back her emotions, kissing her granddaughter’s head. "Yes, she will."

Wiping a tear from her eye, Old Mrs. Ye knew she needed to discuss some matters with Qin Sui’an before her husband and son’s meeting ended. "Let’s look at more pictures of your mommy later."

"Okay~" Qin Sui’an nodded eagerly.

Old Mrs. Ye placed the album back on the desk and asked, "When did you notice that you can read other’s mind?"

"Just a few days ago! I was at Big Brother’s temple when it happened. There were many invisible people talking! They even said I look like Mommy," she said, eyes wide with wonder.

"Temple?" Old Mrs. Ye’s gaze fell on the silver bracelet on her wrist, realizing it had come from there.

Perhaps, it was at that moment her daughter and son-in-law created the bracelet, connecting their daughter to something deeper.

Old Mrs. Ye gently rubbed her granddaughter’s head. "Was it hard when you first got your Mind-Reading Skill?"

"It’s noisy when there are many people," Qin Sui’an scrunched her nose, shoulders drooping. "Big Brother said I shouldn’t go to crowded places or competitions for now."

Competitions were one of her ways to earn money, and she didn’t want to give that up.

"Don’t worry," Old Mrs. Ye reassured her with a smile. "I’ll teach you so you won’t have to hear everyone’s thoughts anymore."

Qin Sui’an’s eyes lit up with excitement. "Does Grandma have a Mind-Reading Skill too?"

Old Mrs. Ye shook her head. "Not anymore."

She had once struggled with the skill as a child, hurt by conflicting thoughts. Eventually, she suppressed it, wanting to spare her granddaughter the same pain.

Even alone in her office, she felt the need to be cautious, leaning closer to Qin Sui’an’s ear to speak softly.

The little girl listened intently, her clear eyes sparkling with curiosity as she nodded along. "Mm, Ann will remember!"

After their talk, Old Mrs. Ye reached out her hand. "Let’s try it out, Ann."

Feeling nervous as if called on in class, Qin Sui’an swallowed hard and carefully placed her hand in her grandmother’s, closing her eyes.
