Beneath the Upper City

No one knows when it began—

But the world was split in two.

Those in the Upper City live in the sunlight, on vast lands, warm and free.

Those in the Lower City survive in a cram...

Chapter 948 Gerlan

"Little York, your back is in my hands now, so can you promise to be a good boy from now on?"

Ning Fan put the note away and asked again in a friendly manner.

Little York nodded happily: "I will!"

"So good."

Ning Fan's smile grew warmer and warmer. "In a few days, I'll introduce you to another older brother."

Little York was startled.

Ning Fan added, "I promise you'll like him."

About half an hour passed.

Gerlan has arrived.

However, Ning Fan did not expect that this [Thousand Souls Level] would be injured so badly.

Both legs were broken and the body was covered with fine earthworm patterns.

Like a burn.

Gerlan was pushed here.

Ning Fan couldn't see his original appearance, but even in this state, Gerlan's eyes still hadn't lost their spirit.

"Hello, Commander Ning."

Gerlan's voice is very unpleasant, probably because of the damage to his vocal tract caused by a previous injury.

"Hello, Mr. Gerland."

Ning Fan walked behind Gerlan and took the wheelchair from the person who had been pushing it. "Shall we go out for a walk?"

"good."

Gerlan had no resistance.

The two left the room and came to the street.

Ning Fan pushed the wheelchair, and the two of them looked like family and friends.

"How much strength do you have left?"

Ning Fan's voice was calm, but he asked suddenly.

Gerlan obviously didn't expect that Ning Fan's first question would be this.

Because before coming, Minx had told him that Ning Fan seemed very interested in the coffin.

So, on the way here, Gerlan spent most of his time recalling the process of getting the coffin.

"Less than 20%."

Gerlan was no stranger to the world, so although he was a little surprised, he wasn't speechless. "With both legs broken and life in jeopardy, what's the point of talking about strength?"

"Not really?"

Ning Fan smiled and changed the subject: "If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Gerlan is loyal to the former District Chief, Femos, right?"

"Um."

Gerlan frankly admitted: "I have only been loyal to this one person in my life."

"Soko should know this too, right?"

Ning Fan asked again.

Gerlan was silent this time.

But there was a flicker in his eyes as he looked forward.

Ning Fan didn't need his answer, but continued: "But he didn't kill you."

Ning Fan could see that Gerlan's arm, which was resting on the armrest, tightened slightly.

"I haven't had much contact with Soko, but I can kind of see a bit of his character."

"He wants to be the district chief. He dreams of it."

"Judging from the fact that he was able to kill Feimos, he is also a very courageous person."

"Little York is just a child. It's hard to see any threat from him, so I decided to keep him."

"Besides, Soko still needs to use him as a puppet."

"But what about you?"

Ning Fan continued pushing the wheelchair, but a playful smile flashed across his face. "Even if you're seriously injured, you're still at the Thousand Souls level! He's not afraid of you. Once you recover, will you pose a threat to him?"

Gerlan's condition has obviously changed.

Ning Fan continued softly, as if talking to himself, "Perhaps it's because you've shown yourself to be completely useless, so useless that he doesn't even need to consider you at all."

"But since it's already so useless, why not just kill it?"

"He can even kill the District Chief, so why does Soko suddenly soften his heart when it comes to you?"

"So, after thinking about it, I finally came up with only one reason."

Ning Fan suddenly stopped.

Here is a relatively wide road.

Because it was morning, there were not many pedestrians on the road.

Ning Fan walked around from behind Gerlan to his front and slowly squatted down.

Gerlan could see the smile on Ning Fan's face.

"He can't kill you."

Ning Fan finally stated the only possibility.

Gerlan did not respond.

His face was badly burned, so it was hard to tell what expression he had.

But Ning Fan knew that his emotions...

In fluctuations.

"This is interesting. Beyer was also at the headquarters before, and with Pierre, two [Thousand Souls] couldn't kill you when you were seriously injured. Isn't that a bit unreasonable?"

Ning Fan's smile grew wider. "So I'm very confident. I can confirm one thing."

Ning Fan placed his hands on Gerlan's legs.

"You're not hurt, Mr. Gerland."

Gerlan's expression changed.

Ning Fan was certain that at a certain moment, Gerlan had the intention to kill.

"Don't move, Mr. Gerlan."

Ning Fan raised his chin towards an alleyway and said, "I have two high-level Thousand Souls here. Even if you are in your prime, you are probably no match for them."

Gerlan didn't look back.

He knew that Ning Fan must have been prepared in advance to say this to him.

Just as Ning Fan said, there was no way he could do anything to Ning Fan in front of two high-level [Thousand Souls Level].

"Soko didn't kill me. He just didn't think I was a threat. That's all."

Gerlan was making a final resistance: "Fimos's death can be explained as an accident, but if I die, the entire headquarters will know that it was him who did it! Then he will have to spend a greater price to stabilize this place, so he kept me here."
