Chapter 89 Even the donkeys in the production team aren't used like that, and you just said that...
“Listen to me, are you even speaking human language? What do you mean we have no money? Aren’t we working day and night to earn it for you?” Lin Yuantang said.
More than that: "The money you're currently earning isn't even enough to pay your salaries."
Lin Yuantang: "...What kind of talk is that? You have to feed the horse before you let it run, right?"
More than that: "The factory has a canteen. You don't eat there yourself. It's not like we're forbidding you from eating there. If you want to cook separately, cook for yourself."
The office building they are currently in was originally rented by Lin Yuantang and his friends. It was a three-story self-built house in the village. They had initially signed a ten-year lease with the landlord to lower the rent. However, after He Zhi bought their company, they were forced to work here, ostensibly to save costs.
Fortunately, it's not far from He Zhi's factory, only a half-hour walk or a few minutes by car. It's quite convenient to work here. We also canceled the storefront we rented in the office building before, which saved us a lot of money.
The factory currently has twenty employees and has hired a housekeeper to cook. These employees could have gone there to eat after get off work, but they are so engrossed in their work that they forget to eat and sleep. Every time they think about eating, they don't know how much time has passed, so there is no food left for them.
Everyone knows you can cook for yourself, but cooking for yourself costs your own money! How can you treat someone like a slave?
Lin Yuantang firmly disagreed. He glanced at the others, then fixed his gaze on He Zhi, and said angrily, "Look at this, this is the fate of working for capitalists. Even a donkey pulling a millstone gets a carrot dangling from its pouch. We nuclear-powered donkeys pull the millstone for more than ten hours a day, and we have to buy our own meals!"
The others all feigned empathy and mixed feelings of grief and indignation, echoing, "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
He scoffed, "Pulling a millstone for more than ten hours a day, unable to even do the most basic work, and you still have the nerve to say that?"
Lin Yuantang retorted, "Impossible! Our product development progress is evident to all!"
He Zhi said, "Is your job just product development? When you first joined the company, we told you that you would also be doing finance, administration, and taxation. Did you do all of that?"
Lin Yuantang's pupils dilated in shock. Pointing at He Zhi, he exclaimed, "You! You! You!!! Even the donkeys in the production team aren't used like this! We're doing research and development for you, and now we have to do administrative work for you!"
More than that: "Didn't you just say it was a nuclear-powered donkey?"
Lin Yuantang: "..."
He Zhi: "Once the accounts are sorted out, I might consider talking about the food delivery business."
Lin Yuantang jumped up from his chair. "I'll get right to it and finish it today! You can talk to them tomorrow!"
...
Wen Yue's job requires working three shifts:
One class runs from 02:00 to 10:00;
One class from 10:00 to 18:00;
Another shift starts at 18:00-02:00;
Each shift has four auditors and one team leader. They rotate shifts once a week. Wen Yue is working the 10:00-18:00 shift this week.
Short videos are now the most popular form of entertainment, and it has become a habit for most people to shoot and post videos when they encounter something new or interesting.
With new things constantly being released on the platform every day, the video review rules must be updated daily. Video reviewers must receive training on the new rules before starting work each day in order to handle the review work for the next day. So, although the official start time is 10:00, they actually have to be at the company at 9:00 and attend training in the meeting room.
At 8:50, everyone except the team leader was already in the meeting room.
Lin Yuanyuan sat next to Wen Yue. She glanced outside the meeting room, not seeing the team leader, and leaned close to Wen Yue's ear to speak: "The Starry Sky Cafeteria's reservation and ordering system starts at nine o'clock, but we can't use our phones during the meeting. We'll order as soon as the meeting ends."
Wen Yue said, "Okay."
Lin Yuanyuan said, "I already had something in mind yesterday, hehe."
Seeing the two whispering and laughing intimately in each other's ears so early in the morning, Xu Xin said sourly, "What are you whispering about? Is there anything we can't hear?"
Lin Yuanyuan said, "Yes."
Xu Xin snorted with dissatisfaction, "You act like you two are so close."
Xu Xin is right. Although they work in the same office and may know each other somewhat, they are definitely not close.
Video review work looks like an assembly line, going through each risk point one by one. It doesn't require much technical skill, but it requires shift work, irregular schedules, long hours sitting, and constant viewing of all sorts of random videos. Coupled with the company's strict performance evaluation standards, it's a double test of physical and mental strength. Few people can last more than six months. There's also little time to get along with colleagues, and with work already exhausting, no one has the energy to make friends.
If you didn't do this work, you might find all sorts of videos, whether beautiful or funny, irresistible, but in reality, they've all been filtered out.
Those who conduct the initial reviews are just like frontline sanitation workers, burying themselves in garbage heaps every day, covered in grime, yet delivering a perpetually harmonious and clear environment to the public.
When Xu Xin first arrived, the team leader told her that Wen Yue had been doing this job for almost two years. At the time, she didn't think much of it, but later she admired her more and more.
At nine o'clock sharp, the team leader appeared in the conference room on time, wearing high heels.
The team leader first reported on everyone's performance yesterday, and then began to explain today's review rules. The review rules included commonly used rules, recently trending topics, and risk points related to major events that may occur recently.
Finally, the team leader also revealed that their team might be considering promoting quality inspectors from among the initial reviewers, and encouraged everyone to cherish the opportunity and actively participate in the competition.
Moving from initial review to quality inspection is considered a promotion.
Quality inspectors are mainly responsible for random inspections, handling complaints, and rule training. If they are capable and perform well, they may also be able to undertake some rule sorting, writing work quality improvement plans, work process optimization plans, etc. It is not impossible for those who do well to be transferred to headquarters to be responsible for rule formulation.
These things may seem a bit far off, but the immediate benefit is that quality inspectors don't have to work night shifts, which is a huge temptation for any initial inspector, making the competition incredibly fierce.
At 9:45, the team leader announced the end of the morning meeting.
After the team leader left, everyone started moving.
"Wen Yue, I think you can definitely do it," Lin Yuanyuan said excitedly.
For the past two years, Wen Yue has been working diligently and keeping an eye on this upward path. However, quality inspectors are not all selected from their initial screening; the company usually recruits highly educated people directly.
The initial recruitment process didn't require high educational qualifications; a junior college degree was sufficient. However, it was precisely because of these low qualifications that their development was limited. Now that she finally had this opportunity, Wen Yue secretly told herself that she had to give it her all.
"Oh no, we haven't ordered yet! Hurry up and order, or we have to go to work!" Lin Yuanyuan exclaimed.
Wen Yue's thoughts were interrupted. "Okay."
After ordering lunch, Wen Yue sent Ning Zheng a message, telling him she would treat him to lunch, and then put away her phone to start her morning work.
The morning work time passed quickly, and as soon as it was noon, Lin Yuanyuan started yelling in the back.
The takeout had been delivered to the company's front desk. Lin Yuanyuan pulled Wen Yue to pick it up, but Wen Yue said she had to wait a while because she had a long video that hadn't been approved yet. Lin Yuanyuan couldn't wait to eat the food, so she went to get it herself first.
Wen Yue guessed that Lin Yuanyuan had already gone to the lounge to eat after getting her takeout, so she got up to get her takeout.
After thinking it over, she ordered two takeout meals. She felt embarrassed to eat with Ning Zheng like she did yesterday, but she was afraid that if she only ordered for Ning Zheng and didn't order for herself, Ning Zheng would feel guilty. So she decided to splurge and ordered one for herself as well.
Wen Yue returned carrying two bags of takeout. Ning Zheng was just coming out of his office when Wen Yue shoved one of the bags into Ning Zheng's arms. Seeing that he had grabbed it, she ran away quickly with her own bag.
Ning called out from behind, "Wait for me!" His voice was tinged with amusement.
Wen Yue originally planned to continue eating in the fire station corridor, but when she passed by the door of the rest room, Lin Yuanyuan saw her and warmly invited her to come in and eat together. So Wen Yue went to the rest room for the first time to eat, and she was also a little unsure how to face Ning Zheng.
Xu Xin's boyfriend ordered takeout from another company for her today, which made Xu Xin unhappy. Then, one after another, they brought takeout that she couldn't get, which made her even angrier. Especially Wen Yue, who never orders takeout, actually ordered from that company and even came to eat in front of her.
She said sarcastically, "What are you showing off? It's all food I ate yesterday."
Lin Yuanyuan pouted, but Wen Yue pretended not to hear and took out her lunchbox to eat.
Yesterday's dishes were from Ningzheng, and Wen Yue restrained herself from eating too much. Today, she ate a whole meal by herself. The rice was very fragrant, the braised pork belly with dried green beans was very flavorful, and today's pickled vegetables were bamboo shoots, which were very crisp and delicious. Moreover, the portions of rice and dishes were very large. At first, Wen Yue thought that she could save these dishes for dinner if she couldn't finish them, but before she knew it, she had eaten them all.
"It's so delicious!" Lin Yuanyuan said.
Wen Yue nodded in agreement.
"Ah, I'm going to order from this delivery service every day!" Lin Yuanyuan exclaimed and started calculating her salary. She was a carefree person, but also a bit of a scatterbrain at work, often making mistakes and getting her salary deducted every month. After all that, her salary wasn't even enough to eat for a month.
Lin Yuanyuan deflated, "No, I need to go home and ask my parents to sponsor me."
"You're so lucky, you almost never make mistakes at work." Lin Yuanyuan looked at Wen Yue with envy.
Wen Yue said, "You can be more careful too."
Lin Yuanyuan felt very wronged: "With so many tasks every day, how can I have time to be careful? The short videos are okay, but some are as long as an hour. If there are four or five seconds of inappropriate content in the middle, I can just skip it by speeding up the playback. I can't find it at all."
Wen Yue said understandingly, "This kind of situation is indeed quite difficult to detect."
After finishing lunch, Wen Yue went back to the office to work overtime. Ning Zheng had already returned. As soon as she entered, she couldn't help but glance at Ning Zheng's workstation. Ning Zheng seemed to sense something and looked up at her. Their eyes met, and Wen Yue quickly lowered her head and went back to her workstation. The moment she sat down, she felt her heart was about to jump out of her chest, and the temperature on her cheeks was rising rapidly. Wen Yue covered her cheeks in dejection.
"Are you hot? Why is your face so red? Your ears are red too." Lin Yuanyuan came in from behind and casually asked as she passed Wen Yue's workstation.
The temperature, which had finally dropped, suddenly rose again. Wen Yue covered her face tightly. Although she had only asked casually, the listener felt as if their secret had been exposed and said nervously, "Yes, it is a bit hot."
Because Xu Xin thought that air conditioning was too dry and bad for the skin, she forbade them to turn it on. The office was as cold as hell, how could it possibly be hot? Lin Yuanyuan's keen gossip radar was triggered.
She turned around, stealthily walked behind Wen Yue, and said in a soft but very certain tone, "You have a problem..."
Wen Yue was startled by her, "No...no."
Lin Yuanyuan said smugly, "If there really is no problem, you should ask me what the problem is, instead of trying to cover it up by saying there is no problem."
Wen Yue: "..."
Lin Yuanyuan: "I think I just saw you delivering takeout to Ning Zheng. When did you two become acquainted?"
Wen Yue: "No... not really cooked. He just asked me to pick up his takeout for him." Wen Yue was even more glad she had bought two portions.
Wen Yue's explanation was reasonable enough, and Lin Yuanyuan couldn't get any more information from her, so she temporarily believed her.
Wen Yue packed her things and ran off quickly at 6 p.m. sharp. She was off work.
As Wen Yue ran out of the office building, she heard Ning calling her from behind: "Wen Yue, wait for me!"

Author's note: My nutrient solution has actually surpassed 1,000 views, and some readers even gave me "free votes" (a form of online voting). I'm truly flattered and grateful to everyone.
The last time I added an extra chapter was when I had over forty bottles of nutrient solution. I've wanted to add more chapters ever since, but after writing one chapter a day, my brain seems to stop working, so I haven't been able to. But I've always kept it in mind, and I'm truly grateful for everyone's encouragement.
This is my first time writing a novel, and I lack experience. The outline was a mess, and the plot quickly deviated from it. Thinking of plot ideas every day was both anxious and exciting. However, I think the final version is better than the original outline, which probably means I've improved, hahaha!
Actually, I've been gradually refining the outline as the daily story unfolds, but it's all piecemeal and not continuous, so it's a bit messy. I need to find a way to organize it properly when I have time. Once I've sorted it out, my writing speed will probably be faster, and I'll immediately add more chapters each day when I can write more.
Thank you everyone for your company (^_^)~
