Chapter 3 A Bowl of Noodles Brings a Sense of Happiness

Chu Xingyue, who had just woken up in the room, rubbed her face against the blanket. This nap was more peaceful and comfortable than any of her naps in the past 20 years.

She reached out, hugged the blanket, and rolled around a couple of times. In her previous life, she had been the eldest for five or six years, but in the end, she was still a little girl. Now, as a 10-year-old girl, no matter what childish things she did, they were all adorable.

Liu Nuoling pushed open the door carrying a basin of water and saw the little girl rolling around in bed with a sheet. She then laughed and said, "An'an's awake! Come on, Auntie will wash your darling's face and wipe her hands. Grandma made An'an's favorite dumpling soup."

Chu Xingyue was startled and covered half her face with the blanket, feeling a little embarrassed. She blinked her big, watery eyes at Liu Nuoling. Even though Liu Nuoling had a daughter, her heart melted at the sight of Chu Xingyue's adorable appearance.

Chu Xingyue, feeling incredibly awkward, wanted to dig a three-bedroom apartment out of her toes. Then, remembering that she was now 10-year-old An'an, she smiled slightly and took her little hands out of the blanket, reaching out to her aunt for a hug. Liu Nuoling quickly picked up Chu Xingyue, her heart overflowing with joy.

Dressing the little girl in the little dress she had just bought in town last week, and putting on a pair of comfortable little cloth shoes, Chu Xingyue sat obediently on the stool. Liu Nuoling washed her face, avoided the wound, wiped her little hands clean, and handed the spoon to Chu Xingyue, who naturally took it and began to eat.

Nothing is more convincing than seeing Chu Xingyue eat by herself, just like a normal child.

The fragrant dumpling soup, mixed with homegrown greens and sprinkled with sesame oil, was so delicious that it made your tongue tingle. In no time, the bowl of dumpling soup was empty, and fine beads of sweat appeared on Chu Xingyue's nose. The vegetables grown in her own garden only needed simple cooking to make them delicious.

"Let's make something to tide us over first. Auntie will make bone broth noodles for An'an tonight," Liu Nuoling said quickly as she tidied up. "Okay," Chu Xingyue nodded in agreement. "Jiaojiao, come inside and take your sister to the yard for some fresh air. Don't you dare leave the yard, understand? Otherwise, you'll get a beating!" Liu Nuoling called out to her daughter outside. "Hey, coming, Mom, I promise I'll complete the mission!" Chu Jiaojiao grinned and gave her mother a half-hearted salute. Liu Nuoling watched her silly daughter and smiled as she went to the kitchen to roll out dough for dinner. Bones were simmering on the stove, and the dead tree trunk that Chu Jiaojiao and Chu Xingyue had brought back from the mountainside was burning in the hearth.

Chu Xingyue watched as her stronger-looking younger sister led her by the hand, her fair skin pointing outside. Chu Xingyue picked up a small stool from the yard, placed it under the eaves, and sat down, saying, "An'an, sit under the eaves, don't go out in the sun, or you'll get tanned and won't look pretty." Chu Xingyue gently touched Chu Jiaojiao's face. "Face!" "Hey, I call this a healthy tan! If I'm a little tanned, I'll take you out to play and see who dares to bully you! My fists will beat them to death!" She then waved her little fist. Eight-year-old children in farming families often help with chores. Eight-year-old Chu Jiaojiao not only helped with chores but also took care of her older sister, who was two years older. Fortunately, the little girl was kind and easygoing; otherwise, a girl of similar age would definitely have complained.

Not far away, Su Jin rubbed the corn cobs in her hands, listening to the interaction between her two beloved granddaughters, and kept smiling. Chu Qian, who had just returned from the fields, looked at the smoke slowly rising from the chimney of his house, and his steps became much lighter.

That evening, the family sat at the square table in the kitchen. The three adults each had a large bowl of bone broth noodles. The hand-pulled noodles, cut to the thickness of chopsticks, were poured over a thick bone broth, topped with minced garlic leaves. The two little girls' bowls were also a bit bigger than usual. After finishing the last sip of soup, they all let out a sigh of relief. Chu Xingyue thought to herself that this kind of day was so comfortable. A simple bowl of bone broth noodles brought her a sense of happiness.

After the family finished eating, Liu Nuoling cleaned up the kitchen, took the kettle to the main room, poured a bowl of tea for each person, and brown sugar water for the two little ones. Chu Xingyue thought to herself: Is this a family meeting?
