The lingering charm is timeless, and the spirit is immortal.
After Shen Jifang's death, her apprentices at Cheng'an Hall erected a statue of her in the clinic to commemorate her. The statue depicts Shen Jifang dressed in plain clothes, holding a medicine box, her eyes gentle yet firm, just as she appeared in life. Every day, people come to pay their respects, offering flowers and incense to express their gratitude for her saving their lives.
Shen Jiayan served in the capital for many years, always keeping in mind his great-aunt's teachings, prioritizing the people, working diligently and achieving remarkable political achievements. Later, he was promoted to Minister of War, commanding the national army and safeguarding the peace and tranquility of the Great Jing's borders. He followed the example of his grandfather, Shen Jiye, strengthening border defenses, establishing friendly relations with neighboring ethnic minorities, and ensuring long-term stability and peace in the border regions.
He also promoted his great-aunt's "Cheng'an Medical Records" to the army, establishing military medical clinics so that soldiers could receive timely treatment after being wounded on the battlefield. Many soldiers were grateful for Shen Jiayan's care and fought even more bravely, making great contributions to the stability of Dajing.
Shen Jiayan's son, Shen Mingyu, inherited the family's fine traditions. He was exceptionally intelligent and diligent. He passed the imperial examination with top honors and entered officialdom, serving as a local official throughout his career. He always took his ancestors as role models, remaining honest and upright, and serving the people. During his tenure, he promoted water conservancy projects, expanded education, and reduced the burden on the people, earning their deep respect and affection.
Years later, to commend the Shen family for their contributions to the country and the people throughout the ages, the emperor of the Great Jing Dynasty ordered the construction of the "Shen Family Martyrs' Shrine" in Jiangnan. Inside the shrine, the memorial tablets of virtuous members of the Shen family, including Shen Qingci, Su Yunqing, Shen Nianqing, Shen Chengyou, Shen Jiye, Shen Jifang, Shen Nian'an, Shen Chengze, and Shen Jiayan, are enshrined, so that future generations may remember them forever.
Since its completion, the Shen Family Martyrs' Shrine has attracted a constant stream of visitors. They not only commemorate the achievements of the Shen family, but are also deeply moved by their unwavering belief in "loving one person throughout their lives and protecting one country with one heart." Many parents bring their children to the shrine to share the story of the Shen family, instilling in them a love for their country and its people from a young age.
After retiring, Shen Nian'an and Shen Chengze returned to their courtyard in Jiangnan and often visited the Martyrs' Shrine to pay their respects. Looking at the memorial tablets of the Shen family members, they were filled with emotion: "The efforts of our ancestors have not been in vain. The spirit of the Shen family has become the spiritual wealth of Dajing, forever inspiring future generations."
The courtyards of Jiangnan remain unchanged, with lush flowers and trees, and koi carp swimming freely in the ponds. Every spring, peach blossoms still bloom, as if telling the legendary story of the Shen family. The Cheng'an Hall clinic continues to heal the sick and wounded; the incense at the Shen Family Martyrs' Shrine still burns ever brightly. All of this tells the story of the Shen family's legend, and of their enduring patriotism and love for their family.
