Xiao Yunying never dreamed that she would go downstairs to buy cold medicine, and a bolt of lightning would strike her into ancient times, turning her into a fat girl who was abandoned on her weddi...
Her voice grew weaker and weaker, and as soon as she finished speaking, she fainted.
"Yun Ying! Yun Ying!"
Luo Sheng helped her lie down and shouted loudly towards the door, "Where is the First Madam? Come here quickly."
The doctor who was removing the needles from Mu Lianrong in another room was so startled that he sped up and finished removing the needles as quickly as possible. He then went over to explain to himself, "Coming, coming, I just finished giving acupuncture to the woman who fainted next to me."
He took a handkerchief and placed it on Xiao Yunying's wrist, asking, "Does this girl have any external injuries?"
Luo Sheng didn't want to waste time with a question-and-answer session, so he simply repeated what he had said to another doctor the day before.
The doctor pondered for a moment: "Like the patient next door, you've experienced significant mood swings in a short period of time. You must have been triggered by something. Is there a place to get medicine in your village?"
"What medicine do you need? I'll go to the city to get it."
The doctor picked up paper and pen to write a prescription, but upon hearing this, he casually complained, "Isn't this a waste of time? Her fever is so high, why didn't we just send her to the clinic? Staying at an inn would have been better."
Luo Ying frowned: "The roads in the village are uneven and the journey is bumpy. She has external injuries and can't withstand it. I'm very fast, so it won't take long."
The doctor mustered his courage and said, "Then I won't go back to the city with you. My old bones can't take it. Are there any oxcarts in the village? I'll go and rent one myself to go back."
“There is a carriage. I will have someone drive you back to the city.”
"That would be perfect."
After writing the prescription, the doctor gave some instructions: "This girl has a very high fever, so please be careful and avoid saying anything that might upset her. Try to be agreeable to her. If the fever goes down, it means it's not too serious. But if the high fever persists..."
The doctor's unfinished words immediately made Zheng Yunwan tense: "Doctor, please think of something!"
The doctor packed his things: "I can only do my best. You should hurry up and get the medicine, brew it for her to drink, and bring down the fever as soon as possible."
Luo Sheng took the prescription: "I'll go get the medicine. Miss Zheng, please have someone drive the doctor back in a carriage."
"I understand, Young Master Luo, please go quickly."
With no one else at home, Zheng Yunwan could only hurry to the farmhand's place with the doctor and have a horse-drawn carriage arranged to take him back to the city.
When she returned, Mu Lianrong was already awake and sitting next to Xiao Yunying, seemingly lost in thought.
"Godmother, are you alright?"
Mu Lianrong took a deep breath: "I'm fine. Have you seen a doctor? What did the doctor say?"
She woke up when the doctor removed the needles, but didn't know how to face Xiao Yunying, so she didn't come over immediately.
After Zheng Yunwan left, she was still worried and got up to check on her.
Zheng Yunwan repeated the doctor's words: "If the fever can be brought down quickly, it will be fine. But if the fever continues, it will be dangerous."
Mu Lianrong's feelings were quite complicated. She didn't know how to treat Xiao Yunying.
But seeing her lying there so weakly, and recalling the time they had spent together over the past year, she felt a pang of guilt.
"Godmother," Zheng Yunwan asked tentatively, "What were you and Sister Yunying talking about just now? Why were you both so upset?"
Mu Lianrong didn't know how to answer this question.
What is she supposed to say? That Yunying herself claimed she was reincarnated, that she wasn't Xiao Yunying, or that her daughter was already gone?
How could this be? How could such an incredible thing happen in this world?
But she had also seen the changes in her own daughter over the past year, and what she said didn't seem like a lie.
Zheng Yunwan could tell that Mu Lianrong didn't want to talk about it, so she didn't press the matter further: "Godmother, if you don't want to talk about it, then don't. It's past mealtime. I'll go make you something to eat, okay?"
"I'm not hungry, go get something to eat yourself."
“No, you have to eat something even if you’re not hungry.” Zheng Yunwan gently persuaded, “If godmother wants to stay with Yunying until she wakes up, she has to take care of her own health first. What if you fall ill again before Yunying recovers?”
Mu Lianrong listened to the advice and said, "Then just make something simple."
"Okay, then I'll go cook a bowl of noodles for my godmother."
Zheng Yunwan went to the kitchen and saw two dogs and a little orange cat lying quietly beside the firewood pile.
“You guys are quite sensible. You know we can’t take care of you today, so you’re staying here quietly and not causing any trouble.”
The two dogs wagged their tails as if in response.
"I'll prepare food for you later. I'll cook a bowl of noodles for my godmother first."
Zheng Yunwan first served the cooked noodles to Mu Lianrong, then cooked a large pot of noodles, adding several extra eggs and meatballs.
After serving his portion, he poured the rest of the noodles into the dog bowl.
"I know you like to eat meat, but I really can't take care of you today. Just have something to eat, and I'll make you some meat when Sister Yunying wakes up."
Pine nuts and walnuts made two small noises, as if to say it was okay, and then ate the noodles heartily, without their usual picky eating habits.
Zheng Yunwan finished her noodles in a few bites and returned to the house to keep Mu Lianrong company while she watched over Xiao Yunying.
When Luo Sheng returned with the medicine, Zheng Yunwan quickly took it to brew.
Luo Sheng was only slightly relieved after he coaxed Xiao Yunying into drinking the medicine.
Mu Lianrong was uncertain: "Now, should we just wait for Yun... to have her fever subside?"
Luo Sheng put down the medicine bowl: "As long as the fever can go down tonight, it's not a big problem."
Zheng Yunwan looked at Mu Lianrong in confusion. She must have heard correctly. Why did her godmother change how she addressed Yunying?
