Bringing Space to the 60s

Originally, Zhang Xudong lived a relaxed and comfortable life. Relying on the medical clinic left by his grandfather, he had no worries about food, drink, or money.

However, after a nap, he w...

Chapter 30: Big Battle 2

The captain's face flushed red, and he pointed at Zhang Xudong with a trembling arm and asked, "Zhang Zhang Xudong, is this the task you assigned to yourself?"

Zhang Xudong said helplessly: "Third Uncle, who do you think can jump directly from a height of 20 meters without using a rope and still be able to fight? And this mission must be completed without any mistakes."

"There are so many people here, how can it be your turn? Don't go!" the captain scolded

Several people in the room looked at Zhang Xudong with suspicion. Platoon Leader Chen looked at Zhang Xudong and the team leader and said, "Don't argue about this now. We can't let the civilians rush to the front while we are here. Moreover, the final action plan must be decided by the headquarters." Platoon Leader Chen paused and continued:

"Do you have anything else to add?" Seeing that everyone shook their heads and said nothing, he said:

"Signalman, report what we have learned to the headquarters." He looked at Zhang Xudong and said:

"Let's report our meeting minutes verbatim to headquarters. And ask for permission to conduct a close-range reconnaissance." Platoon Leader Chen wanted headquarters to see Zhang Xudong's abilities and contributions. He didn't want to take advantage of others.

The signalman immediately contacted the headquarters and reported the situation. The headquarters ordered an immediate close reconnaissance and a detailed frontline combat plan to be submitted to the headquarters.

After discussing it with Platoon Leader Chen, Commander Gao decided to stay in the village to continue refining the perimeter deployment and maintaining contact with superiors. Platoon Leader Chen and his six companions asked Zhang Xudong to serve as their guide and immediately head into the mountains for reconnaissance.

Zhang Xudong did not hesitate, went home, picked up his backpack, and led a few people into the mountains. When they entered the mountains, Platoon Leader Chen and several other soldiers were almost shocked.

Zhang Xudong led them in a straight line, leaping up and down, over the mountains and across the hills. They couldn't cross a ditch over three meters wide, so Zhang Xudong pulled them down to the bottom with a rope. He then easily crossed to the other side and used the rope to pull them up.

They couldn't climb the five-meter-high cliff, so Zhang Xudong jumped into the air, touched the cliff wall with his toes in mid-air, and reached the top of the cliff. He then pulled them up one by one with a rope.

This made Platoon Leader Chen and the others feel embarrassed. They originally thought they had to take care of this young man, but they didn't expect that a grown boy would take care of six grown men.

The few people who were almost depressed to the point of internal injuries finally understood why he dared to say: No one else could complete the task except him. The masters are among the people!

Zhang Xudong led a few people and took more than an hour to arrive near Yezhugouzi, where they stopped to let the six people rest.

Several soldiers, sweating and panting, looked at Zhang Xudong, who was relaxed and at ease, without blushing or beating his heart, and were full of admiration. As a scout, he was already a leader in the army, but there was no comparison in front of him.

"Little brother, how long does it take you to get here by yourself?" Platoon Leader Chen asked after resting for a while.

"If we just rush, it will take more than 40 minutes," Zhang Xudong gave an answer.

Platoon Leader Chen gave a bitter smile. The journey that originally took 40 minutes had now taken twice as long because of the six of them. How could he not feel relaxed?

After a short rest, they followed Zhang Xudong's lead and found a tent in the ravine with two Japanese people outside. The others might have gone into the tent.

After looking at the location of the cave entrance, it was indeed as Zhang Xudong said. The best way was to advance on the top of the tent so as to control the cave before the enemy could react.

Several people retreated a distance, conducted some reconnaissance around, and then returned to the way they came.

When they got to a safe place, Zhang Xudong said, "I didn't see those two Fuso people this morning, which means there must be at least five of them."

"Xiao Liu, contact headquarters and report as follows..." Platoon Leader Chen called on the signalman to report the reconnaissance results and his own battle plan to headquarters. He also reported on Chen Xudong's performance along the way.

As a soldier, Platoon Leader Chen could not convince himself and recommended Zhang Xudong to his superiors to take on such a dangerous mission because Zhang Xudong was just a 16-year-old civilian and did not have the responsibility.

But others, including myself, would not be able to complete this task even if we sacrificed ourselves. So I could only report everything in detail and let the leaders make the decision.

After completing their mission, it was time to go down the mountain. With the help of Zhang Xudong, they went back in a straight line. It was already dark when they returned to the village.

Back in the village, we saw what a scene it was. Three jeeps and eight large trucks were parked in a row on the road in front of the brigade headquarters. They must have come in the dark, just entering the village.

The first five trucks were military vehicles, and soldiers were disembarking in an orderly fashion. It looked like at least a company of soldiers. A truck following closely behind unloaded twenty or thirty police officers wearing peaked caps, all carrying pistols. The last truck probably had militia members disembarking. Although they all carried guns, their clothing was a diverse array.

The last car got out, and a dozen men and women in white coats, young and old, all carrying medical kits. They must have been the doctors and nurses assigned to the operation, and they were quite well prepared.

The brigade entrance had been double-guarded by the troops. A few people reported their identities and were immediately let into the yard. Walking into the yard, I saw that the small conference room was already brightly lit, with shadows and constant voices.

Platoon leader Chen asked everyone to stay in the yard and went to the conference room and shouted, "Report, Chen Zhijun is reporting the mission." He walked in only when the word was given to come in.
