Chapter 67 Telepathy "You really did manage to mess up your brain after the fall..."

"Phew... this dream was really terrifying."

Chen Muhe casually tied up her sweat-dampened long hair, trying to recall the details of her dream.

In my dream, my sister went to Xinjiang to work alone, where she met a wealthy businessman, and they quickly got married.

My sister said she gave birth to a pair of adorable twins. She also said she's doing very well, with a gentle and handsome husband and a well-behaved and sensible daughter, which puts her family at ease.

But then, my sister suddenly passed away.

Chen Muhe calculated the time; if the dream was true, her sister should already be in Xinjiang.

She patted her head, trying to piece together more fragments. The things that happened in the dream were too real, and she was a little scared.

She wanted to know what had happened, but her memory was veiled in a thin mist, making it impossible to see anything clearly.

Chen Muhe was still struggling with herself in bed when her roommate on the floor urged her, "Hurry up and get down, you'll be late for class."

"Hey, here it comes."

For the next two weeks, Chen Muhe had the same dream every night, but whenever she tried to explore it further, she would wake up in a fright.

The unknown she couldn't control made her anxious and restless; her eyes were dark and swollen from lack of sleep.

That day, after class, Chen Muhe was about to go back to her dormitory to catch up on sleep when she suddenly lost her focus and fell down the stairs.

When I woke up again, I was already lying on a bed in the infirmary.

The television was broadcasting the news: "Dear viewers, there are now 45 days until the official return of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to China. CCTV will begin a 72-hour continuous live broadcast at 6:00 AM on June 30th, at which time the people of the whole country will join together to celebrate this grand occasion..."

"Didn't Hong Kong return to China a long time ago?" Chen Muhe asked in confusion.

A doctor in a white coat sitting nearby chimed in, "This was all arranged a long time ago, but there's still the handover ceremony to be held, which I've been looking forward to for a long time."

During the handover ceremony, Chen Muhe silently repeated these words in her heart.

But she clearly remembered that the handover ceremony was on June 30, 1997, and now it's 2001.

Not to mention Hong Kong's return to China, they even won the bid to host the Olympics.

"Where am I? Shouldn't I be at home?" Chen Muhe finally realized the problem with her surroundings.

She remembered that she was at home taking care of her two nieces' meals, and after that she had to go to work. She struggled to get up.

"Don't move yet, wait until this bottle of medicine is finished," the person continued. "This is the school clinic. You must have been injured in the fall. Luckily, you're not physically injured. You just have a lack of blood and energy. You'll be fine after a few days of rest."

"School clinic? Haven't I graduated several years ago?" Chen Muhe was even more confused.

School doctor Wang sighed, "You didn't really fall and get stupid, did you? Your student ID says you're a junior," he said, holding up the student ID on the table, "Here, it fell on the ground when you passed out."

"How could it be a junior?" A terrible thought suddenly flashed through Chen Muhe's mind. She hurriedly pulled out the IV needle from her hand, snatched the student ID, and said, "I have something to do, I'm leaving now."

Ignoring her dizziness, she ran as fast as she could to the newsstand at the school gate, "Whoosh—whoosh—"

"Hello," Chen Muhe said, her hands on her knees, panting heavily, "I'd like a copy of today's latest newspaper."

Taking the newspaper, the familiar scent of ink soothed her confusion and panic. A line of neat, small characters caught her eye: "Thursday, May 15, 1997."

Chen Muhe repeatedly folded and unfolded the newspaper she was clutching, but the date remained the same. Cautiously, she picked up other newspapers from the counter and compared them one by one; they all showed "Thursday, May 15, 1997."

After class, other students gradually arrived, and Chen Muhe was pushed and shoved by the crowd as she left the newsstand.

.

Spring weather is always as unpredictable as a child's face, changing in an instant.

After Chen Mian planted her thousands of peach trees, it rained on and off. She felt sorry for the saplings and would go with her parents to check on them every day. Their original plan to cultivate the land and plant other things had to be put on hold.

Chen Yongliang: "Don't worry too much, nature has its own rules. Once the land is fully irrigated, plowing will be much easier for us."

Chen Mianmian was still uneasy. She had been feeling restless lately, as if something was about to happen.

That morning, the weather finally cleared up, and the fog that had lingered for days was swept away.

As usual, the Chen family of three went to the fields to check on things and also plowed the land to plant corn.

"Kapok, look who's here!" The white Santana pulled up to the side of the road, and Li Hongmei leaned half her body out of the car window, excitedly shouting.

Wu Wei smiled gently and said, "Be careful, you're so impulsive."

Hearing her friend's voice, Chen Mian put down the shovel and looked up.

A figure rushed over and hugged her tightly. "Sister!" Chen Muhe, who had been under constant tension since her rebirth, finally relaxed at this moment.

Thank goodness, my sister is still alive. It's not too late.

Chen Mian was surprised that her twin sister would suddenly come to Xinjiang alone. Before she could say anything, her eyes rolled back and she fainted.

"Muhe!"

"Hehe——"

A group of people hurriedly gathered around, but in the end, Wu Wei took charge and drove them home.

On the way, Li Hongmei explained why they came together: "This morning, Muhe came very agitated and said she wanted to find you, and also said she wanted to settle accounts with Wu Wei."

“Wu Wei told her you weren’t here, but she not only didn’t believe him, she even yelled, ‘Did you kill my sister? I even called you brother-in-law!’”

Li Hongmei was both amused and exasperated: "I remember Muhe wasn't like this before. Did something happen to her?"

Chen Mian was completely bewildered. She touched her sister's forehead, which was damp with cold sweat. "I'll ask her when she wakes up."

"Okay, we have something to do later, so we'll be going now."

.

Chen Muhe slept until 8 p.m. If it weren't for her calm breathing and normal expression, her family would have taken her to the hospital.

Even Ji Yu heard the news and came to visit her sister-in-law.

Chen Muhe opened her eyes and saw a tall, strong man carefully braiding her sister's hair. "Trust me, Mianmian, I'm sure I can learn it."

"What is this?" she asked, her voice hoarse.

Ji Yu's eyes lit up, and she said with great interest, "Hello, sister-in-law. I'm your sister's boyfriend and also your brother's former comrade-in-arms."

Chen Mian: "Who asked you? Go away, go away," she pulled the half-braided hair out of the man's hand, "Go and bring my sister's dinner over."

"Yes, sir." Ji Yu pretended to bow, and after being glared at by his girlfriend, he left satisfied.

Only the two sisters remained in the room, sizing each other up.

“You don’t seem to have any major problems, you’re probably just too tired lately,” they both said at the same time.

"I'm tired because..." they said in unison again.

Chen Mian: "You go first."

"N-nothing...it's nothing," Chen Muhe stammered. "I just had a nightmare."

Chen Mianmian wanted to ask more questions, but just then Ji Yu came in with Chen Muhe's dinner, which had been kept warm in the kitchen.

"Never mind, you go ahead and eat." Seeing that he was no longer needed, Ji Yu said goodbye to his girlfriend and went home, taking Zhijiayi with him as well.

Knowing that the sisters hadn't seen each other for a long time and must have a lot to say, Zhijia didn't resist anymore.

After dinner, the two sisters lay on the same bed and talked.

Chen Muhe: "It's like I had a dream. In the dream, you died in Xinjiang, and my parents and I brought your two children home."

"?" Chen Mian thought her sister was joking. "Can't you even dream of something good for me?"

“No, this might not be a dream,” Chen Muhe said in a low voice, speaking mysteriously, “I came back from 2001.”

How do you prove it?

"..." Chen Muhe tried to recall some major events that happened in 1997 to prove that what she said was true. After a long pause, she blurted out, "The US president will visit China next year."

"Oh." Chen Mian remained unmoved, clearly not believing it.

Chen Muhe: "Sister, believe me, everything I said is true. In my dream, you came to Xinjiang and quickly married Wu Wei, and even had twin daughters."

But you're not doing well..."

Xinjiang is really too far away. At first, my sister would write back often, saying that she was doing well. But by 2000, she hadn't sent a single letter back for a whole year.

She was very worried, afraid that something had happened to her sister, so she and her parents carried large bags and traveled for several days and nights by train to Xinjiang to see her sister.

When I got there, I learned that my sister had passed away a year earlier.

The husband who supposedly treated her very well had a son in elementary school. Chen Mian was taking care of three children by herself. Her mother-in-law was stingy and made her wash clothes with cold water during her postpartum period.

She hadn't rested well during her postpartum period, and her health had deteriorated due to overwork. Her mother-in-law was still pressuring her to have another grandson, saying, "What's the use of having many daughters? They're just a money-losing burden."

The husband was often away from home because of his business, the mother-in-law managed the household finances, and the older sister, despite being malnourished, tried to have a second child. In the end, she suffered severe bleeding during childbirth and could not be saved by the time she was taken to the hospital.

The baby in her womb didn't survive either; it was a boy.

After learning all this from her neighbors, Chen Muhe was heartbroken and shocked, nearly fainting. Her mother also collapsed to the ground.

They simply couldn't understand how their perfectly healthy daughter/sister could have died so tragically.

Chen Muhe's eyes were full of heartache: "If only I had come back sooner, I would never have let you come to Xinjiang, this cannibalistic place, again."

"Sis, why don't you come back with me now?"

Chen Mian: "You really did lose your mind after the fall. First of all, I'm here with my parents to run our own family farm."

"?"

"Secondly, I have my own boyfriend, as you have met. His name is Ji Yu, and he is my brother's comrade-in-arms."

"..."

"Finally, Wu Wei is married now. You've met his wife, Cuiping. Oh, I forgot to tell you, Cuiping has changed her name to Li Hongmei now, so remember not to call her by the wrong name next time."

"?!"

Author's Note: I really enjoyed writing this, haha. I love the feeling of planting so many foreshadowing elements and then gradually revealing them. My CPU is about to burn out, haha.

P.S. There are still many foreshadowing elements that will be resolved before the finale. I'm trying my best to finish this story before August. If anyone comments and interacts with me, it might motivate me to write even more. It's really hard to stick with a single-player game. [crying emojis]
