The protagonist, Li Baolong, was born in the 1970s in China. From a young age, he lived with his parents in a small town on the edge of the Xinjiang desert. When he was fifteen, his parents died in...
Li Baolong sat down on the sofa, ordered two glasses of juice from the waiter, and stared at Chatchai in the distance as he drank. Chatchai had collected twenty million US dollars in drug payments from his downstream buyers in the past few days, all hidden in his secret room. Only he knew the key to that place; without it, opening the door was virtually impossible. The room was sealed tightly with ten-centimeter-thick steel plates, and inside were the ill-gotten gains Chatchai had accumulated over the past decadeāso much that he himself couldn't count it, estimating it to be worth hundreds of millions of US dollars. In Thailand, he held no respect for anyone except the royal family and military commanders. Many drug lords in Southeast Asia were in cahoots with him, and he trafficked hundreds of Asian people every year, mostly women, to his "King's Paradise" for the amusement of high-ranking officials and wealthy individuals. He had over twenty mistresses, roughly one in each Asian country. Li Baolong thought to himself, Chatchai must not be allowed to live; he was too much of a threat. He needed to devise a way to both eliminate him and seize his ill-gotten wealth in the next few days.
Li Baolong and Liu Na returned to the hotel from the casino and went to bed early because they had to attend the Asia-Pacific Financial Conference early the next morning. The next morning, Li Baolong arrived at the venue, and wow, the several acres of lawn were packed with people. With Christmas just around the corner, the venue was decorated with a festive New Year's atmosphere. Li Baolong and Liu Na found their seats at the HSBC Hong Kong location, and Li Baolong nodded to General Manager Zheng Hai. The host began speaking in English, which Li Baolong could understand roughly; his English had barely passed when he was in school. Liu Na's English, on the other hand, was quite good; she had learned it well after living in Hong Kong for several years. After several experts from Asia finished speaking, the venue took a short break, and then several experts from Europe and America took the stage to speak. Liu Na pointed to an American on the stage and said, "This is Ross, a fund agent who manages funds worth hundreds of billions of dollars. He's incredibly successful in the European and American futures markets, with staggering annual returns of tens of billions of dollars. A few years ago, he made a fortune in the UK, earning over 10 billion pounds. He's very famous in Europe and America." Li Baolong memorized everything. Liu Na continued, "Now, this is Jess, also a financial tycoon, a master of stock and futures investment. The two of them often collaborate, specifically targeting small financial groups and small countries, always making a fortune." Li Baolong thought to himself that he needed to find an opportunity to get Ross's approval later for future communication and information gathering.
Today's conference lasted all day, only ending in the afternoon. Several people took turns speaking, but Li Baolong, sitting in the audience, was completely bewildered. All he knew was that there was a banquet at the Bangkok Grand Hotel that evening, attended by bank general managers from Southeast Asian countries, including some executives from Huaxia Bank.
At the meeting, Li Baolong spotted Mr. Jiang, the general manager of Jinguo Futures Company in China. Mr. Jiang had previously worked with Liu Na, so they went over to greet each other and chatted for a while. Afterwards, Li Baolong found a quiet corner to sit down, while Liu Na went to sit with her colleagues and gossip.
Li Baolong sipped his juice, his mind racing with thoughts of how to get close to Ross, that European and American tycoon. Ross was definitely hiding a lot of secrets, and he was hoping for an opportunity at the banquet that evening. He figured he needed to conserve his energy now and try to make a move tonight; otherwise, Ross might be back in Europe and America by tomorrow, and it would be much harder to find another chance.
An hour later, Liu Na, with her sexy, slender waist, swayed over and sat down in front of Li Baolong. A hint of mystery on her face, she asked, "Guess who's coming to the banquet tonight?" Li Baolong rolled his eyes and casually replied, "The Prime Minister of Thailand." Liu Na smiled and said, "Oh, you're a smart one. Many banking tycoons from Southeast Asian countries are coming this time. You know, the economy is sluggish right now, and everyone's looking for mutually beneficial cooperation."
As evening fell, the banquet began on time. The lobby of the Bangkok Grand Hotel was truly magnificent, with twenty large round tables, easily accommodating over two hundred people. At the back of the lobby was a large private room that could hold fifty people. Several economic tycoons from various countries were there, including Ross and Jess, who were chatting amongst themselves, each trying to extract useful information from the other.
As the banquet began, everyone ate and chatted, creating a lively and somewhat noisy atmosphere. Li Baolong seized the opportunity, getting up to say he needed to use the restroom. Reaching the entrance to the large private room, he saw four bodyguards standing there, each looking menacing. Li Baolong muttered to himself, but didn't think much of it. He turned and went upstairs, finding a room directly above the large private room. Inside, it was empty except for a large round table and a few chairs. Li Baolong sat down, took a few deep breaths to calm himself, and then activated his telepathic abilities, searching down at his feet. Soon, he found Ross's location. To his surprise, Ross's brain aura was enormous, golden, and flashing. Li Baolong mused that this might be a symbol of wealth. He had observed other people's brain auras several times before and had gained some insights. He had discovered that different colors of brain auras seemed to indicate different levels of fortune and personality. Liu Gan's aura was gray, Lao Feng's was black, and Chachai's aura was large and black. They all looked like ruthless characters who killed without hesitation and whose hands were stained with blood.
In the room on the second floor, Li Baolong kept his eyes glued to the floor below, waiting for the right opportunity to use mind control on Ross. Ross, meanwhile, was very busy in the private room, constantly getting up to clink glasses with the guests and exchange pleasantries. More than ten minutes passed, and Li Baolong was incredibly nervous; his palms were sweaty.
