Chapter 10, Section 10: My sister-in-law... how can I allow others to bully her?

Just now, Zhao Zhixue and Pei Duo came out and saw Liang Wentao blocking a young woman.

When Zhao Zhixue realized that the young woman was Jiang Ninghui, he rushed over, fearing that his wife would be bullied by that scoundrel Liang Wentao. But Pei Di's wolf-hair brush was one step ahead of him.

Zhao Zhixue shielded Jiang Ninghui behind him, glaring angrily at Liang Wentao. His handsome face was filled with rage: "Liang Wentao, don't you dare to act so arrogantly outside just because of your family's wealth and power. If you dare to bully my wife again, I will definitely report you to the prefectural government! The prefect of Longchang is honest, upright and incorruptible. I don't believe that the prefect will protect your Liang family!"

Upon hearing the name of the prefect of Longchang, Liang Wentao's anger was extinguished as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head.

He wasn't afraid that Zhao Zhixue would report him to the prefect of Longchang. At worst, he could secretly find someone to break Zhao's leg and see how he could report him to the Longchang government office.

The worst fear is that Pei Duo will meddle in other people's business again, after all, the Pei family has connections with the prefect of Longchang.

Liang Wentao couldn't swallow this humiliation any longer, but he couldn't do anything to Pei Duo.

Enraged, he snapped the wolf-hair brush in his hand and threw it to the ground. The black brush landed covered in mud. Liang Wentao turned his resentful gaze to Zhao Zhi, then glanced at Jiang Ninghui, whose figure was half-hidden by him.

What's there to be so smug about!

If they can't do anything to Pei Duo, can't they at least do something to a lowly woman?!

He only needs to find out where Zhao Zhixue lives to know where his wife is. When Zhao Zhixue is not around, he can have his wife tied up, have his fun, and then throw her back. Who will find out?

The way Liang Wentao stormed off sent a chill down Jiang Ninghui's spine.

She gripped Zhao Zhixue's arm tightly, her palms sweating with fear.

Zhao Zhixue turned around and took Jiang Ninghui's hands, wrapping her two cold hands in his palms: "Suihui, don't be afraid, it's alright, let's go home."

Jiang Ninghui's face was as pale as paper. When the cold wind blew, she looked like a piece of jade porcelain hanging on the edge of a table, ready to shatter at the slightest touch.

Pei Duo stood two steps away, watching Jiang Ninghui's thin and frail body pressed tightly against Zhao Zhixue's side. Her tense shoulders trembled slightly, and her almond-shaped eyes, soaked by rain and snow, were moist.

She blinked frequently, trying to force back the fear and moisture in her eyes.

They look pitiful yet resilient.

Zhao Zhixue gently rubbed Jiang Ninghui's fingers and asked softly, "Wife, why did you come to the school?"

Jiang Ninghui snapped out of her daze under Liang Wentao's gloomy and terrifying gaze: "I saw that it was raining and snowing, and I was worried that you and Young Master Pei would get wet and catch a cold, so I thought I'd come and bring you umbrellas, but who knew..."

She bit her lip and didn't say anything more.

They knew what happened next.

Zhao Zhixue handed the umbrella from Jiang Ninghui to Pei Duo: "Brother Pei, here's your umbrella. Thank you for what you did earlier."

Pei Duo walked over, took the paper umbrella, and opened it. His strong, slender fingers gripped the handle, and the edge of the umbrella blocked Zhao Zhixue's view, but could not block the young man's gaze toward Jiang Ninghui. It was deep and dark, mixed with a deep color that no one could fathom.

"No need to thank me, she's my sister-in-law, I can't let others bully her."

Jiang Ninghui felt both grateful to Pei Duo and guilty.

To help her, Young Master Pei taught Liang Wentao a lesson the first time, and the second time he even gave him a pen.

She looked down at the wolf-hair brush broken in two on the ground; the brush was covered in mud and was no longer usable.

She couldn't afford to repay Young Master Pei for the pen, but she could repay him in other ways.

Pei Duo glanced at Jiang Ninghui's lowered gaze and knew what she was thinking.

His sister-in-law wanted to repay him again.

With her limited resources and clumsy methods.

Zhao Zhixue held Jiang Ninghui's hand and tilted the edge of the umbrella towards her, exposing half of his body to the rain and snow.

Seeing this, Jiang Ninghui grabbed Zhao Zhixue's hand and pushed him a little closer: "My lord, don't always worry about me. I've been resistant to cold and freezing since I was a child. I'm not afraid of wind and rain. But you, you can't catch a cold."

If the young man catches a cold and misses his studies, his parents-in-law will scold him to death.

Zhao Zhixue forcefully tilted the umbrella towards her: "Wife, I am a grown man, and my body is definitely more resistant to the cold than yours. Don't argue with me. If you catch a cold, who will cook three meals a day for us? Listen to me, I'm fine."

Pei Duo walked three steps behind them, watching the young couple, so considerate of each other and so affectionate towards one another.

He looked up at the gray sky amidst the drizzling rain and snow.

Today's rain and snow are really annoying.

When Zhao Zhixue got home, one side of his shoulder was wet, so he went back to his room to change his clothes.

Jiang Ninghui went into the kitchen and glanced at the food in the pot. Because there were still sparks in the stove, the food was still warm. Today she steamed flower-shaped steamed buns, cooked millet porridge, and stir-fried two dishes.

The pot lid was lifted, and thick white steam rose up from inside.

Jiang Ninghui tilted her head slightly, but the scalding heat still hit her cheeks, instantly making them feel hot. The frost on her eyelashes melted into water, making her almond-shaped eyes look watery.

The kitchen door was pushed open from the outside, and a tall, slender figure entered through the door, landing right on top of Jiang Ninghui, enveloping the woman's slender and delicate figure beneath his broad and long body.

Hearing footsteps behind her, Jiang Ninghui didn't turn around, but simply said, "The food is ready, I'll bring it to the table right away."

She tested the temperature of the plate; it was warm, but not too hot to handle. So she picked up the plate with both hands, but when her fingers touched the bottom of the plate, she felt a burning sensation. In a panic, Jiang Ninghui turned and walked quickly, wanting to place the plate on the table a few steps away as soon as possible.

Suddenly, someone walked up behind her. Jiang Ninghui turned around hurriedly and almost bumped into the person. The plate in her hand was unsteady and was about to tip over. She couldn't help but lean back.

She tried to avoid the man, but forgot that there was a scalding hot iron pot behind her.

Pei Duo swiftly caught the plate that was about to slip from Jiang Ninghui's fingers with one hand, while his other strong arm caught the woman's reclining waist and pulled her forward.

He didn't use much force, but the person in his arms was still pulled into his embrace by his slight strength.

The person in his arms was even thinner than he had imagined.

She was covered in a loose, bulky cotton dress, but he held her waist with one hand. The faint fragrance on the woman's body was exactly the same as the scent that had lingered on his bedding that night.

Jiang Ninghui was suddenly embraced by a man other than her husband, and was pulled into a broad, warm chest by an external force.

A faint scent of cedar wafted into her nose, and the tightness of her waist being held by a hand, along with the scorching heat of the body in front of her, brought Jiang Ninghui's sluggish mind back to its senses. She stiffly looked up and saw the young man's sharp jawline, taut with tension.

Above that was Young Master Pei's handsome, aloof face.

Jiang Ninghui's almond-shaped eyes widened suddenly.

Before she could push Pei Duo away, her husband's voice came from outside the kitchen door.

"Wife, what delicious meal did you make this morning? I could smell the aroma from the doorway."

Zhao Zhixue pushed open the door and immediately saw the two people in front of the stove.
