Chapter 6 What kind of punishment is heartbreak? Making you the first wife...?
"What?" Wen Qingke asked, bewildered. "Didn't your teacher say it was just a simple argument, and that the other person was willing to pay for medical expenses..."
“This is different.” Wen Han frowned. “There were many of them beating up Wen Ruo. It was a one-sided gang beating. They even broke her bones and it was just a simple dispute. We can sue them. At the very least, they can be detained for a few days.”
They're all in their second year of high school now, and they've all turned sixteen. They're old enough to take on some responsibility.
Wen Qingke paused for a moment: "After all, they are still students. Should we give them another chance?"
Wen Han remained silent with a cold face. He was also a student. When Gu Cheng used his family's influence to leave him homeless, why didn't anyone advise him to let it go?
He knew that no matter how big the incident became, with the Gu family involved, Gu Cheng would never end up in jail, but his brothers were a different story.
"Then let them pay more compensation, otherwise they won't learn their lesson. But we should still go through the proper procedures to prevent them from trying to renege on their promises."
Wen Qingke is an honest man, and probably wouldn't say anything like "your child is intentionally causing harm or fighting." Wen Han instructed him: "If the principal asks you to mediate with the parents, you must be firm in your attitude. Just accept whatever they say."
The Wen family is dirt poor and certainly can't afford a lawyer. Wen Ruan suddenly said, "Dad, let me go with you to talk to the principal."
Wen Qingke nodded, and Wen Han said coldly, "No."
"Let the professionals handle the professional matters. Just tell the principal to schedule another time tomorrow. Anyway, the police are handling it now."
Wen Ruan wanted to say something, but Wen Han gave him a warning look. If he wasn't afraid of being told about Wen Qingke and Gu Cheng, he'd better stand aside and not say anything.
Wen Ruan frowned. Wen Ruo couldn't bear it, but she was also worried that the other party might be concerned about Gu Cheng, so she didn't stop Wen Han.
Wen Han and Wen Ruan had to rush back to class. Before they left, he repeatedly reminded Wen Qingke, "Don't let anyone fool you!"
Wen Qingke agreed. He didn't have time in the afternoon either; he had to ask his boss for a break before going back to work. His family's circumstances didn't allow him to take even half a day off, and he would have to work overtime that night to make up for it.
——
When they returned to school, it was almost lunchtime. As soon as the bell rang, everyone rushed to the cafeteria. Fang Songxia ran to the school gate to get the food his mother had brought him, telling Wen Han to go to the cafeteria first.
Only Wen Han and Jing Yu remained in the class.
Wen Han remained seated, unsure how to begin. Jing Yu smiled and asked, "Wen Han, I don't know where the cafeteria is. Could you take me there?"
Wen Han hummed in agreement.
Although it's already past September, the weather is still incredibly hot. School has only just started, and the school hasn't had time to have workers prune the trees yet; the camphor trees have grown wildly during the summer vacation. Their lush branches have grown so long that they completely block out the sky above the path, with sunlight filtering through the leaves. When the wind blows, the leaves rustle and sway, and even the tiny specks of sunlight on the ground seem to dance merrily in all directions.
Jing Yu asked with concern, "How is Wen Ruo?"
"It's a fracture." Wen Han asked him, "Jing Yu, did you call the police?"
"Um."
"What about the video online? Did you ask someone to help you with that?"
"I just called the police, and did nothing else."
Wen Han didn't believe it: "That video should have been suppressed by Gu Cheng's father as soon as it was posted online. How could it still be circulating?"
Jingyu explained to him, "Recently, a piece of land in the outskirts of Linjin is going to be put up for tender, and the Gu family and several other companies are in competition."
Upon hearing this, Wen Han remembered that she had indeed recently heard that a new Wu Yue Square was going to be built in the suburban development zone. It seemed that the Jing family had only edited and posted the video online, and the other competing companies, seeing that the Gu family's young master was in it, had all stepped in to hype up the video, hoping to make the Gu family too preoccupied with Gu Cheng's affairs and cause them to give up their bids.
However, Wen Han remembered that the Gu family seemed to have given up on that piece of land in the drama. Gu Cheng had heard from his younger brother that the land was tainted with a major landmine; his brother's father had worked at the factory there, and the unscrupulous factory had illegally discharged harmful substances underground that could affect glands. The Gu family withdrew in time to avoid losses. This incident even earned President Gu a greater appreciation for Gu Cheng.
Wen Han only remembered that the younger brother's hair was dyed a shit-yellow color, but she couldn't remember his name.
However, judging by the timeline, that's at least a month away; they're only just starting the bidding process now.
Thinking of this, Wen Han asked Jing Yu, "Is your family planning to bid?"
Jing Yu shook his head, and Wen Han lowered her eyes: "That's good."
"What's wrong?"
He made up a lie: "It's nothing, my grandfather said that the feng shui of that piece of land is bad."
Wen Han remained silent, feeling deeply frustrated. Without money or power, he couldn't do anything to the Gu family. Even if it was Gu Cheng who injured Wen Ruo this time, his family was incredibly wealthy. If it weren't for the Gu family's rivals stirring things up online, this incident wouldn't have even made a ripple.
But Wen Han was unwilling to do nothing or follow the system's plan to avoid both of them.
Jing Yu stopped in her tracks. Wen Han looked ahead and saw an unfamiliar Alpha blocking Wen Ruan's way. The two stood at the end of the path. The other person was blushing and had his hands behind his back. Wen Ruan felt a little helpless. There were also students secretly watching from the side.
If Wen Ruan were to be with someone else, it would be a tremendous punishment for Gu Cheng.
Wait a minute. Wen Han was shocked. What was he thinking? What kind of punishment was heartbreak? Gu Cheng wasn't bankrupt, nor was he missing any limbs. He was truly being influenced by this world rife with hysteria.
Jingyu asked, "Do you think Wenruan will agree to him?"
"How could that be?" The protagonist (bottom) is definitely with the protagonist (top), even though the protagonist (top) isn't that great.
Wen Han had only had some porridge in the morning and was starving. He was about to tell Jing Yu to hurry up when he saw him looking at Wen Ruan and the Alpha with a detached expression, seemingly lost in thought.
Wen Han chuckled to himself. "Less Alpha, less Omega... Could it be that Jing Yu has feelings for Wen Ruan? He even kidnapped Wen Ruan at the end of the drama! Is this because he fell in love before the feud was even settled?" The system also said that he, as cannon fodder, was courting death by trying to deal with the male lead, while the cannon fodder here has already fallen for the Omega that the male lead likes. Isn't that even more courting death than himself?
"Wen Han!" Fang Songxia came over with a small lunchbox. "Why aren't you at the cafeteria yet?"
“Jingyu doesn’t know where the cafeteria is, so I’ll bring him here.”
Oh. Fang Songxia walked over to Wen Han and glanced at Jing Yu. If she wanted to know where the cafeteria was, wouldn't it be obvious which way the students were heading?
"Wen Han, isn't that Wen Ruan over there? Is she confessing her love?" Fang Songxia only then noticed the grand scene in front of her.
"But doesn't Gu Cheng like Wen Ruan? How can he tolerate this?" Fang Songxia had barely finished speaking when Gu Cheng suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed the boy, and startled him.
"Wow!" Fang Songxia exclaimed, stunned. "Do you think they're going to fight?"
"Who knows?" Wen Han glanced at it quickly, then looked away with disgust. "Let's go eat, we have math practice today."
There was an open-air staircase outside the cafeteria, where many students were standing and watching. Fang Songxia tugged at Wen Han's hand: "Wen Ruan managed to persuade Gu Cheng to stay."
"He just got into trouble this morning, he can't possibly cause trouble again in less than half a day." These two, however, took this opportunity to have a major breakthrough in their relationship.
Aunt Fang made sweet and sour pork ribs today. The food in the cafeteria is terrible, so many students choose to eat outside of school or have their parents bring them food. Fang Songxia put a piece of sweet and sour pork rib on Wen Han's plate and said with a grin, "I bring you food every day, it feels like I'm raising a concubine."
Wen Han glanced at him sideways: "You dare to make me your concubine?"
Fang Songxia sighed: "There's no way around it. If I let you be the first wife, you'd scare all my concubines to death."
Jingyu choked on the spicy stir-fried cabbage.
Wen Han took a bite of the pork rib, and Fang Songxia continued, "By the way, my mom asked if you have time. We're on holiday this week, and she's planning to take us to see a movie and then have barbecue afterwards."
Wen Han lowered her head and said, "I think I won't go."
"Ah, it's rare to go out and have fun, go ahead." Fang Songxia knew what he was worried about. "Just say you're coming to my house to play, don't tell your dad."
Seeing that he didn't speak, Fang Songxia said coquettishly, "Come on, even if you want to pay for it yourself, my mom definitely won't agree."
"No, Wen Ruo is still in the hospital. She must be very busy at home these days."
Upon hearing this, Fang Songxia immediately put down her chopsticks: "How's your face? You're not disfigured, are you?"
"...A few bruises shouldn't be a problem."
"That's good." Fang Songxia said indignantly, "Gu Cheng is too bold. With someone like him in school, ordinary students would have to worry about their personal safety. We are so lucky to have been admitted to this school."
Wen Han had a poor appetite and was thinking about things while eating.
"But what's your dad's plan?"
"What do you mean, how about it?"
Fang Songxia snorted: "Gu Cheng beat up Wen Ruo, your family can't just let it go like that. If you ask me, you should make his family pay a lot of money."
Wen Han smirked: "I'd like to put him in jail, but it was his underling who did it, not him. Besides, my family is just an ordinary citizen, what can we do to his family?"
*
Since learning her fate, Wen Han has been torn between seeking revenge and giving up on herself for less than two days.
The system's purpose was to inform him about the romantic relationship between Wen Ruan and Gu Cheng, as well as the general direction of the plot. As for Gu Cheng's future career, it all depended on money and connections, so even if Wen Han knew, it wouldn't be of much use.
Wen Han took out a new draft. He was stumped by the last multiple-choice question. When he encountered this kind of curve equation, he kept trying to substitute the options one by one.
"System, can you only show me the plot?" Wen Han asked. "Isn't there any other help, like points redemption or something?"
"Because the task is too simple, there are no such things. However, one wish can be granted."
Wen Han stopped writing: "Any wish is allowed?"
