"Yun Tangyin, if you don't go to the countryside, then die!"
Only then did Yun Tangyin realize she had transmigrated into a book, becoming the unlucky female lead with the same na...
When they got home, Erzhuzi was already waiting at the gate, holding a small bamboo lantern in his hand: "Brother Fu, you're finally back!"
He held up the lantern and twirled around, saying, "I made this lantern; it can be used as a light at night!"
Just as Yun Tangyin was about to speak, Fu Yucheng pulled her into the house: "Let me show you something first."
He took out a red cloth bag from his cloth bag. Inside was a shadow puppet, Mu Guiying's armor, which was inlaid with small sequins. "The old master said that his daughter embroidered this, and her skills are comparable to yours."
Yun Tangyin hung the shadow puppet on the crib railing. The setting sun shone through the window, casting swaying shadows on the wall.
"It looks just like it's alive." She suddenly turned around and hugged Fu Yucheng. "I had so much fun today."
"As long as you're happy." He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "Tomorrow I'll take you to the back mountain to pick wild jujubes. I heard the wild jujubes there are big and sweet."
"No way." Yun Tangyin poked his arm. "The old Chinese medicine doctor said that eating too much sour food is bad."
Just then, Jiang Jianhua came in carrying a bamboo sieve with black beans drying inside: "I heard you went to the temple fair? I left you two a bowl of black bean porridge, drink it while it's hot."
She slipped a cloth bag into Yun Tangyin's hand. "These are walnuts sent from my family. Crack two open and eat them every day."
Just as Fu Yucheng was about to grab the hammer, Yun Tangyin stopped him: "I'll smash it. You're clumsy, don't hurt your fingers."
Jiang Jianhua laughed from the side: "You two are so lovey-dovey, even sweeter than newlyweds. By the way, reporter Li is coming to shoot the bamboo workshop tomorrow, you two can be models too, and help promote our bamboo products."
The next morning, just as Yun Tangyin finished hanging up the crib curtains, Fu Yucheng came in holding a small bamboo rattle drum: "Look at this drumhead, I covered it with a layer of sheepskin, it's louder than Erzhuzi's."
He shook the rattle drum, saying, "When the child wakes up, shaking it will make him laugh."
"Where would you find a child these days?" Yun Tangyin laughed and snatched the rattle drum. "Reporter Li is coming soon, you should go and change into a clean military uniform."
Just as Fu Yucheng finished changing his clothes, reporter Li came in carrying a camera, followed by Fu Yuanshan and Erzhuzi.
"Comrade Fu, Comrade Yun, let's take pictures in the yard. This bamboo crib makes a perfect backdrop." Reporter Li gestured with his camera. "You two stand side by side and smile at the camera."
Just as Yun Tangyin was about to laugh, Fu Yucheng pulled her closer to him: "Be natural."
He suddenly leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Just like usual, just look at me."
Just as the camera shutter clicked, Yun Tangyin looked up at him, her eyes shining with a smile as bright as lanterns at a temple fair.
After taking the photos, reporter Li smiled, holding up her camera: "This one is sure to be in a magazine! By the way, Master Fu, the star box you made is so exquisite, could you make one for me too?"
Fu Yuanshan was about to respond when Erzhuzi interrupted, "I can make one up! I'll make one with a bell for Reporter Li!"
After reporter Li left, Fu Yucheng slipped a walnut pastry into Yun Tangyin's hand: "When we were taking pictures just now, your face was as red as Guan Yu in the temple."
"And you're still talking about me." Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece into his mouth. "Your hands are shaking."
In the afternoon, while Yuntang was embroidering bibs for the baby, Fu Yucheng sat beside her weaving a small bamboo basket.
"How about the lace trim on this basket?" he asked, holding it up. "Perfect for storing small toys for the kids."
Yun Tangyin leaned closer to look: "Weave two more loops of the '回' (hui) pattern, and it will be even stronger."
She suddenly remembered something, "Oh right, the old Chinese medicine doctor said to go to bed early, so don't make up anything tonight, get some rest."
Fu Yucheng put down the bamboo strips: "Whatever you say." He suddenly snuggled into her arms, "Shall we rest now?"
"You're being irresponsible." Yun Tangyin pushed him away. "I still need to embroider a purse for Erzhuzi. He said he wanted to give it to Reporter Li as a thank-you gift."
In the evening, Zhou Mingniang came in carrying a bamboo basket containing six small bamboo wine cups: "Acheng, do you think these wine cups are well-made? Director Wang of the supply and marketing cooperative said he wants to prepare them for the wedding banquet."
Fu Yucheng picked up the wine glass and looked at it; there was a double happiness character on the glass. "Aunt Zhou's cooking is beautiful."
He winked at Yun Tangyin, "Have your sister-in-law embroider a piece of red cloth on the bottom of the cup; it will bring more good luck."
Yun Tangyin smiled and nodded: "I have some leftover red cloth here, I'll embroider it tomorrow."
After Zhou Mingniang left, Fu Yucheng walked towards the kitchen: "I'll go and brew your medicine."
"Let me do it," Yun Tangyin stopped him. "You don't know how to control the heat."
Fu Yucheng scratched his head and laughed, "Then I'll start a fire for you."
As the smell of medicine filled the courtyard, Erzhuzi ran in, holding a small bamboo flute: "Listen! The flute I made can be played!"
Although the flute music was out of tune, it had a clever and lively quality to it.
Yun Tangyin stuffed a handful of candy into his pocket: "You're really amazing, better than your brother Fu, who can't play any musical instruments."
Fu Yucheng poked his head out from the kitchen: "I know how to shoot, do you?"
Erzhuzi stuck out his tongue: "When I grow up, I'll join the army too, and I'll be even better than you."
Lying on the kang at night, Yun Tangyin touched the good luck charm on Fu Yucheng's chest: "Do you think the photos taken by reporter Li might actually be published in the magazine?"
"Definitely." He snuggled closer to her. "My wife is so beautiful, it would be a shame if she didn't appear in magazines."
Yun Tangyin leaned closer to him: "Stop making fun of me."
She suddenly remembered something, "I need to pick up my medicine tomorrow, will you come with me?"
"Of course I'll go." Fu Yucheng hugged her tightly. "I'll also buy you two boxes of face cream while I'm at it. Look how rough your hands are."
Yun Tangyin suddenly kissed him on the cheek: "It's so good to have you."
"Silly girl." He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "I should say it's so good to have you."
The moonlight from outside the window fell on their clasped hands, and the silver bracelets jingled.
Yun Tangyin suddenly felt that these days were really good. With him by her side, she had something to look forward to. Every day was like freshly brewed medicine, bittersweet.
