Unfortunately, although this city belongs to Norway, it was discovered by the American Longyearbyen when he was looking for coal mines. The proportion of Russians and Ukrainians in the city is twice that of Norwegians. Because of this, although this town famous for Arctic scientific research has the world's northernmost coal mine and is well-known internationally, in the eyes of Norwegians, this city is the least qualified to be the "world's northernmost city".

Since even their own country refused to acknowledge them, Longyearbyen had no choice but to carry his small stool and watch from afar the two cities in the south fighting each other.

However, although the Norwegians are unwilling to recognize the status of Longyearbyen, this city is extremely famous all over the world, otherwise Captain Andre would not have set the second supply point of this voyage in this city.

Although Longyearbyen is not big, it has a dock that can accommodate 10,000-ton ships.

There was no way. Although Longyearbyen was discovered by Icelanders as early as 1194, the harsh climate made it difficult for people to survive here. It was not until 1906 that the American John Longyear discovered rich coal mines in this area that the city began to prosper.

It can be said with certainty that this city was developed based on coal mines. Moreover, the Sverre Coal Mine in Longyearbyen is one of the most productive coal mines in the world, which is very attractive to Europe in the context of industrialization. With the injection of US dollar capital, coal mines have blossomed everywhere in the Svalbard Islands. Attracted by high salaries, many miners from Norway, Russia and other countries left their homes and came here to fight the severe cold and became the earliest islanders.

With the coal mine, there naturally needed to be a wharf to transport the raw coal, so this 10,000-ton wharf was built.

After the Blue Whale docked steadily at the pier, Yang Jing and Gege led Dabai off the ship.

It would take the Blue Whale a whole day to replenish supplies here, and it would not leave until tomorrow evening before it continued on its way. Before that, Yang Jing and his crew had more than 20 hours to explore the city.

Only after actually entering the city did Yang Jing discover that this long and narrow city was located in a valley. It was precisely because of the towering mountains on the north and south sides that the residents in the valley could withstand the cold wind from the Arctic.

The city is small, much smaller than Nuuk, which Yang Jing had visited before. But the buildings here are the same as Nuuk, colorful and beautiful.

It is said that the reason why the houses here are all this color is because Longyearbyen has three months of polar night from November to January of the following year. During this period, the whole city is plunged into darkness, so the exterior walls of the houses here are painted in various colors to facilitate residents and tourists to identify them in the dark.

The hotel Yang Jing booked was the best Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, Spitsbergen in Longyearbyen. Like all the other buildings in the town, this hotel was also built of wood and was only two stories high.

This four-star hotel is located in the center of the town, 1.3 kilometers away from the pier. Originally, the hotel wanted to send a car to pick up Yang Jing and his friends, but because Dabai was there, Yang Jing refused. Anyway, it's not far, and walking is healthier.

As they walked from the pier to the hotel, Yang Jing discovered that abandoned wooden cable car tracks could be seen everywhere on the hillsides on both sides of the road.

These cable cars are relics of the Svalbard Mining Group, the largest enterprise in the town. Before mechanization was achieved, these cable cars were used to transport coal from the mine to the dock.

Longyearbyen is now in the period of polar day, which is the peak tourist season. When Yang Jing and his companions got off the ship, it was 8:30 p.m. local time, but there were still many tourists strolling on the streets.

Yang Jing and his group quickly attracted the attention of many people, mainly because the white polar bear next to Yang Jing was too attractive. Although some people in Europe and the United States also keep polar bears as pets, polar bears of this size are really rare. Even though Longyearbyen, like Churchill in Canada, has many polar bears, and this city is also known as the "hometown of polar bears", it is still rare to see a wild polar bear walking on the street so blatantly.
