Mindoro Island is derived from the Spanish word mina de oro, which means "land of gold mines". When the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, they discovered several gold mines on this island, so they gave the island this name.

Mindoro is the fifth largest island in the Philippines, about 160 kilometers long from north to south and 84 kilometers wide from east to west. The 140-kilometer-long Gao Lorraine Mountains run through the island from north to south. The highest peak of the Gao Lorraine Mountains is Mount Alcon in the northeast of the mountain range, which has an altitude of 2,585 meters.

There are less than 700,000 Filipinos living on this island with an area of ​​less than 10,000 square kilometers, but most of these residents live in coastal areas. Only a very small number of indigenous people who make a living by hunting live in the Gao Lorraine Mountains in the middle of the island, so most areas of this island are still quite primitive.

The yacht Morris rented departed from Manila and took more than three hours to reach Puerto Galera, the northernmost port city of Mindoro Island. The capital city of the entire Mindoro Island is Calapan in Oriental Mindoro Province, but Puerto Galera is the most prosperous, most populous and most scenic port city on the entire island.

Before the yacht entered the port, hundreds of small and medium-sized yachts were seen in the strait outside. The water here was extremely clear, and you could even clearly see the underwater coral reefs through the several meters deep water.

The coral reefs in Sabang Bay can even be compared with those in Cyprus. Although not as large as the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea east of Australia, the variety of coral reefs here is no less than that there.
