Supreme Sacred Ring, Carefree Tycoon!
In the 80s, a good-quality old Hainan Huanghuali round-backed armchair from the Qing Dynasty could be yours for just twenty yuan. Now, two million yuan o...
The Chelsea district is located in the southwest corner of Midtown New York, on the east bank of the Hudson River.
This place was founded in the 19th century and was originally a suburban residential area in New York. However, with the industrialization of New York, numerous meat processing plants and many other factories appeared here, so this area has a strong industrial characteristic.
It is for this reason that in the 1990s, it attracted a large number of artists to live here. Today, it has become the most artistic neighborhood in New York, with more than 350 galleries alone, mainly distributed between West 18th Street to 24th Street, and between 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue.
If you hadn't seen it with your own eyes, it would be hard to imagine that there are so many galleries in this area that is less than 500 meters long and less than 300 meters wide.
Accompanied by Old Mike, Yang Jing got off the car in front of a building on 20th Street. The five-story building with exposed red bricks in front of him was once a factory building, but now it has been completely occupied by artists.
"Cole, there are twenty-three galleries in this building alone. The two galleries I bought are also here." Old Mike said in a low voice as he stood beside Yang Jing, while Nathan Brown was on guard around with four bodyguards.
Yang Jing looked up at the building full of quaint flavor, then looked to the west and found that to the west of the building was the 11th Avenue, and across the 11th Avenue was the Hudson River, and there happened to be a pier on the shore.
"This is a nice place, and it feels quite quiet." Yang Jing said lightly, but Old Mike could hear the appreciation in his tone.
"Haha, ever since a group of artists came here six years ago and started to buy up land on a large scale, in just six years, this place has become the place with the highest concentration of artists in New York. No one would have thought that this area, which was a factory area and workers' residential area a hundred years ago, would become the most artistic place in the whole of New York a hundred years later." Old Mike said with a smile.
Then, he shrugged his shoulders again. "But there is one thing I don't quite agree with. In addition to the gallery district full of art galleries, this is also the most famous gay gathering area in New York. Cole, the High Line Park on 23rd Street in the north and the Chelsea Market in the east were very famous among tourists before, but now they are completely occupied by gays..."
Yang Jing smiled and glanced at Old Mike, "Why, do you hate homosexuals?"
Old Mike is already over 60 years old, so he is naturally more conservative. He nodded and said, "I don't like them very much, but I can't stop this from happening. So, I usually pretend not to see it. However, I plan to move these two galleries out after a while. Anyway, the private museum I acquired on Museum Avenue is about to be renovated, so I will move these two galleries there after the renovation is completed. I've had enough of this place!"
Yang Jing asked, "You bought a private museum on Museum Avenue?"
The so-called Museum Mile actually refers to the middle section of the famous Fifth Avenue. Fifth Avenue is very long, but the section between 80th Street and 105th Street is called "Museum Mile" by New Yorkers because it is home to many famous museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the National Academy Museum, as well as more than 100 national or private museums of various sizes.
Old Mike shrugged his shoulders and said, "You have to buy it. If you don't buy it now, you will have no place to put the antiques and artworks I bought for you!"
Yang Jing pointed at himself with a confused look on his face, and the meaning was very clear - are you sure it's because of me?
Old Mike rolled his eyes in annoyance and ignored Yang Jing.
Yang Jing then realized that since he met Old Mike and made a lot of profits from speculating London gold, he seemed to have entrusted Old Mike to purchase various precious antique artworks from all over the world. It has been seventeen years since 1980. With Old Mike's vision and the financial resources of the Dragon Fund, Old Mike must have already collected a museum of antique artworks.
That's why he bought a private museum on Museum Avenue, otherwise he would have no place to put the antique artworks he bought.
After Yang Jing figured this out, he said with some shame: "Okay, Mike, I apologize for my expression just now."
Mike, who is in his sixties and is acting more and more like an old child, just shrugged his shoulders when he heard this, and led the way to the door of the building without saying a word.
The two galleries that Old Mike bought were next to each other, both on the fourth floor of the building. There was a 24-hour security guard at the door of the gallery, who immediately greeted Old Mike respectfully when he saw him coming.
After entering the gallery, Yang Jing saw a large number of paintings hanging on the walls on both sides of the gallery, including oil paintings, watercolors, prints and sketches. Although Yang Jing was not very proficient in Western paintings, he could see that the paintings hanging on the walls of the gallery were very ordinary paintings.
"These paintings are very ordinary. Why do you make these paintings?" Yang Jing asked puzzledly.
"Haha, you don't know this, right? The main reason is that I have acquired too many famous paintings over the years and I can't put them away, so I put some paintings that are not very valuable here. Of course, they are not hung here, but stored in the warehouse here. However, although those paintings are not as valuable as those famous paintings, they are still valuable. In order to conceal the existence of these paintings, I simply bought two galleries and used the galleries to conceal the existence of those paintings."
