Chapter 344: The Starry Sky and the Dark Snake Staff Rises (5)
"VV The first phase of our operation was a success, right?"
"In theory, yes."
"Then why is the enemy's attack even more fierce?!" Ji Huaisu shouted at the top of his lungs, "They are like a pack of mad dogs now!"
She ran along the avenue, studded with colorful flowers, and the pedestrians around her were all lifted up and thrown away by the dust. Time was running out, and there was no time for delicate movements. The poor citizens were tossed around like they were on a trampoline, being blown around by the wind. But this time, there were no complaints, as they too had seen the terrifying pursuers behind Ji Huaisu.
A fleet of motorcycles decorated with bones crushed flowers, leaving burn marks. The madman in the lead swung a whip woven from sulfur and magma. The man's head was devoid of flesh and blood, a burning skull.
It hissed and lashed out with its whip: "Go to hell, blonde woman!!"
"Do you have a grudge against me?!"
"He's Cyno Levi Kappa, a cultist, an extreme racist, and hates white women," VV said. "Your appearance may have triggered his psychological trauma."
"This is a personal revenge!"
Ji Huaisu swerved to avoid the whip, but the long whip appeared out of nowhere, wrapped around her neck, and pulled her in front of the motorcycle wheel. The skull jaw of Senor Levi opened and closed: "Become the ashes of hell!"
Ji Huaisu tugged at the whip, but couldn't get it loose. Seeing the enemy about to crush her, she leaped onto her motorcycle and slashed forward with a pitch-black claw. The shadow claw shredded all of Senorevi's defenses, crushing him and the whip together into a paper-thin mass.
Ji Huaisu burned all the flattened enemies with a single blow of fire, then turned mid-air and sped forward on his motorcycle. The other motorcycles collapsed in a flurry from the sudden braking, and Senorevi's men knelt in shock and prayed.
"The boss turned to ashes!" "It's Satan's sorcery." "She is the messenger of hell!"
"You're quite popular," said Vander.
"Get out of the way!" Ji Huaisu cursed over her shoulder, charging forward with all her might. The idiots behind her scattered in all directions, and a rain of arrows rained down from the sky, piercing every inch of the battlefield in front of her. The Black Death Army's flying troops followed closely behind, so many that she was too lazy to count them.
This was the main reason she didn't take the air route and rushed on the ground. Going into an aerial battle with a 5-handed soldier without even a mount was pure suicide. Now it seemed that the soldier had actually shown some mercy. If he had used so many troops earlier, she and Riko would have died on the road.
"Now, let me address your confusion. With the destruction of the main antenna, the third-order bomb threat has been resolved. Divine communication will soon be restored, and the enemy will seize this final window to act. According to their original plan, they would have conserved as much strength as possible to secure a safe victory, but now, time is of the essence and they are determined to achieve the greatest possible outcome. They will launch an all-out attack."
"Try to make a big move before you run away, huh?!"
"Your way of thinking is very close to that of a criminal." VV praised.
Ji Huaisu ducked to avoid the spear's thrust. A man dressed like a barbarian, unarmed, caught up to her motorcycle. She froze him into a block of ice and crushed him with a single claw. "You've already figured this out, haven't you? That's why you're talking about the first phase. So what's your second phase?"
"At this stage, you need to deal with dozens of Sephiroth 4s with extensive combat experience and at least three legendary Sephiroth 5s. Given the current disparity in combat power, I don't think conventional methods have a chance of success," VV said. "Let's take a gamble on unconventional methods."
"Oh, we're going to gamble again! This tone sounds damn familiar!" Vander screamed, "Could your unconventional method be..."
"Return to the third team headquarters, find Chu Hengkong and release him, and then the operation will end."
"I knew it!"
"I've made a backup plan, too." VV marked another green dot. "Turn right at the next intersection. I'll prepare a wind tunnel for you to reach the Second Vein Order for help. Choosing this route won't allow us to rescue the Third Captain in time, but it will ensure your safety. You've already done your best to resolve the chaos in Jingsha. There's no need to gamble with me on illusory possibilities."
Ji Huaisu sneered: "Do I look like someone who would abandon his comrades and run away?"
"Not likely." VV said, "So the direction of the air flow in that duct is adjusting towards your path, and you will be accelerated in 10 seconds."
"You have a really bad personality!"
Ji Huaisu casually swatted away two pursuers, the red dot marking the third team's headquarters flashing before her eyes. Behind the red light was a terrifying, rock-hard figure. Nearly ten meters tall, a giant stood at the front of the road, his fist raised high, his rock-like skin making it resemble a small mountain.
"Kaletal, a master of boxing who excels in close combat and joint techniques, try to keep your distance from him."
Ji Huaisu stared at the rock-like man and asked, "What's his rank in your group?"
"No. 15."
"Damn, he's a tough guy!" Vander shouted.
Ji Huaisu, on the motorcycle, unleashed his Shadow Claw. Kaletal's massive fist swung down prematurely, striking the ground. A terrifying shockwave traveled along the motorcycle, briefly knocking Fander unconscious. The fervor rising from the ground smashed through the motorcycle, causing the swirling Shadow Claw to deviate from its trajectory and strike the air.
Kaletal's upper body spun, his massive palm striking Ji Huaisu's unprotected left side. Ji Huaisu clapped his hands back, her palms gleaming with starlight. Highly compressed Dust Break launched at the shortest possible range, exploding before Kaletal's palm and knocking him back with a powerful blow.
Kaletale lost her balance and fell to her knees. Ji Huaisu took advantage of the impact of the explosion to jump up. The temporarily diverted wind duct arrived as expected, allowing her to reach the sky in the center of the poetry umbrella in an instant!
"Great response." VV praised.
"Let No. 15 fight with Akong." Ji Huaisu breathed out a long sigh and dove to the ground like a parachute. "Do you know what's going on over there?"
"There's no evidence, only speculation. I believe the enemy has set some kind of trap to isolate him from the outside world. Otherwise, we can't explain why he hasn't appeared yet."
Finder was dazed and still recovering from the shock. "Why don't they just assassinate me if they have such great powers?"
"If you were to make the plan, how much combat power would you need to be confident that you could kill Chu Hengkong?"
"This is enough for now..." Fander regained consciousness. "I'm confused. If everyone goes to kill him, there's no one left to do the work. If it were me, I would seal him too."
"The enemy's tactics are powerful, and I can't guarantee I can defeat their trap, so this is a gamble," VV said. "Thank you both for trusting me."
"You're welcome. You trust us too, don't you? Vander is an expert in this area, and he'll bet with you one last time later." Ji Huaisu looked at the rapidly enlarged headquarters of the third team and handed the badge to the bewildered Vander.
"One last question, VV. Your full name is Velvet, right? Velvet Velus."
She heard VV's laughter for the first time: "You can also call me boss."
"Remember to pay me later!"
Ji Huaisu flung Fander out with a vengeance. It and the brooch smashed through the headquarters' third-floor window, the shards of glass piercing its body. It instinctively looked up, wanting to curse its teammates for being crazy, but saw Ji Huaisu standing silently at the headquarters' gate. The twisting blade of the strange weapon cleaved through Frost's armor and pierced her abdomen deeply.
Someone had already been waiting here. The enemy knew the killer's power better than they did, and they would never allow any flaws in their plan.
Laelna Barry pulled her curved sword away, her exquisite martial arts skills keeping the blade clear of blood. She looked up at the pierced glass on the third floor and asked, "What did you lose?"
"I advise you not to be distracted by these..."
Ji Huaisu gritted her teeth and stood up, sealing her wound with ice. She held her sword, shield, and shadow blade in hand and charged forward bravely: "What you should be thinking about most now is how to defeat me!"
·
"That's it?" Xueyan kicked the stones on the ground. "Is this the level of the commander of the coalition forces from 20 years ago?"
No one responded. Trek no longer had the strength to speak. He collapsed in the dense forest, his white coat stained blood red. The previous explosion had taken his right arm, and the explosion before that had shattered the wooden spear.
Today, the Third Captain is unarmed, even less so than the many civilians he risked his life to protect.
"You may not know this, but I've actually made a lot of preparations. I was planning to continue threatening you with your subordinates, then your former subordinates, your family, and finally your wife... If you can persevere to the end, even if it means taking shortcuts, I wouldn't mind saying 'brilliant' and then leaving. If you can fulfill your justice, you deserve to live."
He tapped the shattered limb with his toes and kicked it away disdainfully.
"But unfortunately you didn't make it until then. You weren't the strong man I expected..."
Xueyan made a brand new bomb with his own hands, let it expand, and threw it at Trek.
"The weak should die with justice in their arms." Xueyan said.
·
At this moment, the killers are still wreaking havoc in the third vein.
The mastermind behind the scenes disappeared without a trace, and all the effort put in was just a diversion of the other party's plan.
Such is the way of the unintentional, calculated scheme. This aging city-state has long since withered, and the king's plans merely peel back the veil of vanity from its aging face. Just as an outdated demon king is defeated by a hero, so too will a decadent hero fall at the hands of an outsider. The cycle and alternation of time is nothing more than this.
Many civilians were injured.
Did any team members die?
How much longer can Li Ke hold out? Can Ji Huaisu stop that terrifying woman? Will Trick be overwhelmed and collapse under the laughter of the bomber?
Fander didn't know, nor did he have time to think about it. He just felt that what had happened today was really unreasonable and absurd, and those bastards had no right to destroy the prosperous and peaceful Jingsha city-state.
It had felt sadness in Yingshi Town, chaos in Jinye City, and the battles in the wilderness were a tragic song woven with despair. And now it felt angry, a deep rage wrapped in a sense of powerlessness.
Vander ran to the end of the corridor, clutching the brooch. He couldn't understand why Li Ke and the others said they couldn't see it. The door was right there, and the killer sat behind it, dejected. He could even see the expression on the killer's face, the same feeling of helplessness and despair he felt at that moment.
"Hey, man!" Vander yelled, "Get up and kill people!!"
It screamed heartbreakingly, but its voice could not reach Chu Hengkong's ears. It could not even get close to the door that was so close before its eyes. It ran, jumped, and threw itself recklessly at the steel, but the door was so close yet so far away that no matter how hard it tried, it could not reach it.
Vander suddenly realized something, and he slowly lowered his head. What he saw made him fall into despair.
It sees the abyss.
The deep black abyss standing before the door.
As if the starless night had solidified, as if the dark moonlight had become solid, a deep, infinitely deep crack lay before the iron gate. It was insurmountable, even more so, undetectable, for it was the omnipresent force of gravity, a chasm that the wingless could never hope to reach.
That was the method laid by the king, the deep night that cut off all hope. Its trap was a projection of the origin of the First Abyss!
The inability to observe the abyss was actually a mercy from the gods. If it weren't for the essence hidden deep within the mortal's body, it would have plunged into the abyss and been trapped in the embrace of the cradle the moment it observed it. But that essence could only save itself, and Chu Hengkong had long been isolated on the other side of the abyss, trapped in the maze of the past.
Finder slumped to the ground, powerless. He could almost hear the dull thud of the blade entering his body, signaling the end of the final battle before his department. In this death relay race, he had arrived at the gate with the last baton, but he could do nothing but protect himself.
"I can't see anything." It heard Velvet's voice. "What do you see?"
Finder groaned, "Abyss. They laid the First Abyss!"
The voice on the communication channel also stopped. It could almost imagine the girl's desperate eyes. And the next moment, it heard Velvet's voice.
"Please throw the brooch over there," she said. "Please."
Finder mustered up the last bit of hope and threw the silver badge out like an adventurer throwing a torch of hope into the wilderness.
The badge melted in mid-air, its sleek metal shell silently detaching, revealing a staff entwined with twin snakes beneath the camouflage. The eyes of one of the snakes lit up. The last of the badge's energy was exhausted at that moment, transmitting the world observed by Finder to the magical scholar thousands of miles away!
At the Dustless Land headquarters, Velvet opened her eyes. Her vision expanded through the snake staff, and she gazed through that mysterious life into the materialized abyss, toward the man on the other side.
So she raised her staff high, ignoring the cries of those around her, ignoring the warnings ringing from the core of the Dust Island. She raised the symbol of power to the sky, like a prophet from ancient times raising his staff to summon hail and rain of fire!
"The Rod of God!"
Fander suddenly raised his head. Something was about to fall, a fate unavoidable yet inevitable event. His gaze, traversing the vast distance, reached the sky and saw an incredible behemoth, dormant above the Sea of Illusions, awakened by the scholar's command.
The great being received the scholar's signal and threw a brooch, which represented the coordinates of the promised land. It opened its eyes and cast an invisible gaze, its gaze transforming into light and falling upon the earth, like a god wielding a majestic scepter!
In an instant, an immense distance was bridged. The moment observation arrived, the divine staff had already descended. The staff plummeted into the abyss, and a clash erupted in an invisible place. All movements on both sides paused at the same moment, their gazes fixed on the center of the clash, unable to comprehend what had transpired.
Only Finder saw it, only Finder could observe it. He saw the scepter fall into the abyss, spurting out filthy, poisonous blood; the moonlight surged like a tsunami, but was separated by power; the god's staff split the sea of despair, and the will of the underworld serpent crossed like an ark, crossing to the other side!
The abyss shattered, and the door opened wide. The spiritual struggle caused a ripple in the material world, causing the door to open inward, and the brooch, about to shatter, fell, making a sound that the killer was most familiar with.
"—Long time no see."
The man opened his red eyes, and he reached out to gently take the brooch, as if he was holding an illusory hand.
"Long time no see." He smiled nostalgically.
The array covering the secret room converged, and the wings in the center disappeared. The pitch-black bone wings stretched out and stretched, like the wings of death soaring in silence.
Vander's vision suddenly changed. He saw the snake-shaped curved sword spinning and flying high into the sky, and the female killer's eyes were filled with astonishment; he saw the army occupying the sky suddenly collapse, and countless pieces of iron exploded and fell like rain; he saw the blood-red bomb about to explode, but was grasped by a solid hand.
The hand crushed the bomb with ease, the aftermath of the explosion unable to shake it in the slightest. Chu Hengkong grabbed Xueyan's head in an instant. He smashed Xueyan's face into the ground with one hand!
Two updates tomorrow
