Chapter 19: First Clues Emerge

In the bedroom on the second floor, Qi Shen stood in front of the window, the orange sunset gentle and not dazzling.

He watched as the beautiful, pure-looking young girl, now grown into a graceful young woman, walked towards the villa with her schoolbag on her back.

She has been well cared for over the years, and the image of that thin and pitiful girl from Qingcheng Village has long since disappeared.

The deep eyes hidden behind the glasses darkened, like an endless deep sea.

For the past three years, she has been living at high school and returning to the Qi family home once every two weeks, sometimes even once every three weeks.

He was busy managing the overall situation in SQ, leaving early and returning late. She was not at the Qi family home, and he and his father had disagreements about their college applications.

He moved out naturally.

She had a heavy workload, and he was busy with work, so sometimes it was difficult for them to even see each other.

Standing here observing her today, he realized:

His Zhizhi is growing up quickly; she will soon turn eighteen after the college entrance examination.

As Fang Zhi entered the villa, he stopped at the entrance and, while changing his shoes, eagerly asked a nearby servant, "Where's my brother?"

"Young Master must have gone back to his bedroom."

"Okay." After changing her shoes, Fang Zhi couldn't wait to run upstairs to the second floor. When she arrived at Qi Shen's bedroom door, the girl was about to push the door open when she suddenly remembered the misunderstanding she had caused earlier.

Her brother had told her that she didn't need to knock when she came to his room, and she had always done so.

But last year, she had a question she didn't know and came to ask him. She pushed open the door and happened to run into her brother changing clothes after taking a shower.

Although he reacted quickly and covered his body with a towel, she still accidentally caught a glimpse of his muscular chest.

Unlike the skinny, frail male classmates at school, my brother looked gentle and refined, but in reality, he had a smooth and powerful abdominal and arm line.

Only then did I realize that my cheeks were slightly flushed.

Help! What is she thinking?! How could she compare her brother's physique to that of her classmates?

Fang Zhi quickly put the thoughts in his mind aside and gently knocked on the door twice.

"Brother, are you there? Can I come in to see you?"

As soon as she finished speaking, a pleasant, magnetic male voice came from inside, "Come in."

Fang Zhi placed her fair and soft hand on the doorknob and turned it slightly, and the door opened.

Qi Shen stood in the center of the bedroom, his figure tall and slender.

Their eyes met, and the man smiled gently, his handsome face revealing tenderness. His tone was calm yet teasing, "Zhizhi has really grown up. Now she has to knock before entering her brother's room."

Just as she had put that embarrassing incident out of her mind, Qi Shen's mention of it made her blush again.

She stammered, "Before... I was young and didn't know any better."

"Okay." Qi Shen calmly appreciated the girl's shyness and restraint. "Does Zhizhi need something from her brother?"

"It's been so long since I've seen my brother..." Fang Zhi looked up at the man's increasingly mature and handsome face; she missed him.

Qi Shen chuckled softly, took a long stride forward, bent down and leaned closer to her, "Why is your face so red? Are you sick?"

The man spoke politely, as if he genuinely cared about her.

After speaking, he frowned and reached out with his well-defined knuckles to touch the girl's fair and smooth forehead to check her temperature.

His cool, refreshing scent wafted over her, and she realized she was completely enveloped in his gaze. Her pure and beautiful face turned even redder, like a boiled shrimp.

"I..." She shrank back slightly, her voice stammering, "I'm fine... I guess I got hot when I ran up here to find my brother."

A meaningful smile lingered in Qi Shen's eyes.

He knew the little girl he had raised with his own hands all too well; she was shy and timid, like a mimosa plant, shrinking into a ball whenever someone approached.

"Oh, I see." Qi Shen didn't expose her, and followed her words slowly, "Then Zhizhi, you don't need to rush next time, your brother won't run away."

Fang Zhi dared not look into the man's eyes. His clear black and white eyes caught her gaze, and she hurriedly nodded, "Mmm."

Qi Shen stopped short of making his point. He was still in high school, and expressing his thoughts too obviously would be counterproductive.

He leaned back slightly, giving Fang Zhi some breathing room. "Have you been having any difficulties with your studies lately?"

As he moved away, I realized I could finally relax.

"Yes, there are a few math problems I can't figure out, even after the teacher has explained them many times."

The girl's voice was soft and weak, carrying an undisguised hint of grievance.

Fang Zhiye did feel wronged. She used to think that her mortal enemy was English, but she realized she was wrong when she got to high school.

Mathematics was her lifelong rival.

The classmates joked that math is 30% luck, 70% effort, and the remaining 140 points depend entirely on fate.

Looking at the girl's lifeless expression, Qi Shen couldn't help but chuckle. "With your brother here, after dinner, Zhizhi can bring over any questions she doesn't understand, and I'll teach her."

"Okay!" Fang Zhi's eyes lit up, but then she suddenly remembered that Qi Shen had been very busy with work in recent years, and pursed her lips and said, "Won't this disturb my brother's work?"

Qi Shen's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "No."

After the college entrance examination, when it came time to fill out college applications, a strange look flashed in Qi Shen's eyes. He seemed to have never heard of which university his little girl wanted to attend.

He had been busy before and had neglected to keep up with the girl, but now that SQ was on track, he had plenty of time to spend with her.

It's time to ask Zhizhi what she's thinking, so let's do it tonight while I'm tutoring her.

Of course, I was just asking, if my bird wanted to fly far away...

Thinking of this, the aura surrounding the impeccably dressed man darkened for a moment.

He will not only refuse to agree, but will also gradually extinguish her desire to leave.

After all these years of guarding it, it's almost time to bear fruit, so we need to be even more careful and attentive.
